I loved this read. The cover was interesting, the storyline great, the characters fab and lots of action and anticipation threaded throughout to keep your attention. The sexiness was an added bonus! Can’t wait to read the next book!
Elizabeth is a criminal attorney in a prestigious firm. She decided she wanted to take a weekend off in the mountains. Once there, she was out and about when all of a sudden, she is attacked by a huge wolf. While the wolf was attacking her, another appeared! The second one turned into a man and carried her back to his place and pack. When she awakens, she hears what occurred and can hardly believe it! When the proof is shown to her, she accepts what will happen but needs to get back to her life. She grows close to the Alpha’s sisters, except one. They know that the wolf that attacked her is a serial killer and someone they know! Why is the wolf targeting her? What does it want? Who is it? Meanwhile, she will learn many other things that were kept from her…can she forgive these indiscretions? It ends in a cliffhanger…onto book two~
Love this book. Had me hooked from the start.
5 stars for Shift by Heather Mackinnon. This is book one in the Southern Werewolves series. Elizabeth is heading to the mountains for a weekend vacation. She needs the peace and quiet. All that changes when she is bitten by a werewolf. She is saved by Abraham and brought into their pack. The person who had bitten her is a serial killer. This book is a must read. It is heated, steamy, has a lot of romance, and a ton of suspense. Elizabeth’s character is strong, witty and everything I love in a heroine of a story. Heather Mackinnon is a new to me author and I am now a big fan. The way she writes makes me feel like I am part of the story, like I can actually see what she is describing. It made the experience all that much better. I love Abraham and how romantic and caring he is while still being the Alpha. I can not wait to see what comes next. It is 1 a.m. and I am starting book two now.
This was a slow burn paranormal romance that blends a bit of mystery with a touch of suspense.
Being a first in series it provides the reader with a bit of background and introduction to the multiple characters.
It was a steady read that was easy to follow.
I enjoyed the diversity of character personalities. It does end without closure, not really a cliff hanger but more a to be continued which IMO is to be expected.
Elizabeth has decided that her career as an attorney is what is important – not love – not a partner. Her character at times was an absolute joy to read other times I wanted to knock some sense into her. True to her career choice she argues out everything.
I enjoyed Abraham’s character he was intelligent and tended to think before acting. He was a bit possessive at times and I found humor in not only his responses to Eli but in Elizabeth’s responses to him.
I am curious to find out who and why so I will be moving on to book two
I did enjoy this read and the story kept me captivated till the very end. The chemistry between the hero and heroine was clear and the other relationships in the book came through strong too.
By the end of the book though I felt like nothing got answered. I was left with question after question. The book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger but it does leave you wanting at least some of the answers the book eludes to before book 2 is released.
I absolutely loved every second of this book. It really captured my attention/interest right away. It was such a great book that I highly recommend that you read and check it out for yourself.
Shift by Heather MacKinnon is not my normal go to type of book, I am so glad that Heather offered it to me to try. I absolutely loved the book. Shift kept me on the edge of my seat I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next. It was very believable and grabbed and kept my interest throughout. You get a little bit of romance, mystery, suspense and a little of the supernatural shifting. I can’t wait to sit and read the second book in this series. Heather you hooked me.
Well written, fast paced.
Wow what an amazing book. I couldn’t stop reading to find out more of Elizabeth’s story as she embarks on a journey that she never even dreamed would happen. As she learns that werewolves are real and she may be shifting as well, but there are secrets and danger that surround her. The characters and story were so engaging that I couldn’t stop reading, definitely looking forward to Howl the next book in this series. Highly Recommend!!!!
Great characters and great world-building with wonderful touches of both humor and suspense
A new to me author, this book was highly recommended by a friend, so between that and an intriguing blurb, I thought I’d give it a chance. Boy, I’m so glad I did!
Having read fantasy for many years, I look for stories with layered and well-thought out world building, and this story has that in spades. Starting with an interesting premise that quickly pulled me in, the author did a nice job of slowly introducing information while using suspense and humor to keep me engaged. Plus I just plain loved the individual spin this author used on werewolf/shifter stories.
Elizabeth and Abraham were both terrific lead characters and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop. Abraham’s sisters added a lot of depth, as well as occasionally some comic relief, and I’m hopeful we’ll get more of their stories as the series goes on.
Great characters and great world-building with wonderful touches of both humor and suspense, this is a more sweet than heat kind of story. Note that while it ends on a happy for now moment, there’s still a major plot thread (or three, depending on how you count them) left unresolved at the end. Can’t wait to get more of these characters! 5 stars

Shift is an entertaining read, and I have to hand it to the author – the world of the Southern Werewolves is very well thought out and the characters have great depth. The story is a mix of romance between Abraham and Elizabeth and suspense with a murderer on the loose. The focus is on Elizabeth as she navigates both the physical changes of becoming a wolf and accepting the family oriented pack mentality. It is a bit drawn out and there are some lags along the way that could’ve done with some tightening up. This is the beginning of the series, so there are several unanswered questions that I assume will be addressed as the series progresses. I would’ve liked to have seen more about the killer in this one. We get a tidbit here and there, but there’s so much in between that it’s almost forgotten about until almost the end. Then we have some action and just when it seems the suspense angle is going to ramp up, it’s back to El and her upcoming shift. In the end, there were things I liked and things I didn’t, but I found more positives than negatives, and it’s certainly worth the read.
This is the first book in a new series from this author. Elizabeth takes a much need weekend break in the mountains, and ends up getting attacker by a wolf, and left for dead, but she is saved by her destined mate, Abraham. No spoilers; this is a must read, you will not be disappointed. This is a well written story, which has twists, suspense, humour and twists, which had me intrigued and hooked throughout. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series! I recommend this authors’ work for all readers .
What a great book! Elizabeth captured my attention from the start. In the very beginning I thought wow i think its gonna be gruesome but then it turned out to be something else. I know I guess a part right away but it took such strength not to read ahead. Abraham is the head werewolf, the Alpha. He’s got a hidden agenda with Elizabeth but i caught on quick. The mystery part was great. I couldn’t pit the book down. I loved the way we realize how Elizabeth journey goes. I so want to expand on this bit I’ll definitely be giving the book away! I hope you give this book a chance because of you like paranormal and especially werewolves you’ll love this book! The ending ends well but whats even better. We get a second book thats gonna continue the story. Enjoy!
Workaholic lawyer Elizabeth Montgomery decides to take a much-needed vacation by herself to a cabin the woods. When she arrives, she decides to go for a walk and ends up being attacked and bitten by a werewolf. She is rescued by Abraham and soon discovers he is not who he seems. She also discovers she is now transforming into a werewolf and needs the help of Abraham and his pack. How will she handle the transformation? What happens when the werewolf that attacked her finds other victims?
I stumbled upon this author by reading her contemporary romance book, Trying. I absolutely loved that book! I do not typically read paranormal, vampire or werewolf shifter type of books, but I decided to give Shift a try, and I’m so glad I did! My love for books is romance, and this one absolutely had the romance factor and I was really engaged in reading about the transformation from human to werewolf. This being my first werewolf book, I liked how it was descriptive and easy to follow along. The characters are relatable, and I love the banter between Abraham and his siblings. Elizabeth is an only child and doesn’t have any close friends, and she had to get out of her comfort zone to learn to be part of a tight knit wolf pack. Can’t wait to read book 2!
4 Star Review
This story is a paranormal shifter book. It’s book one in the series. The story is about a successful and independent young women who is a lawyer that just women a case and runs off to a cabin in the woods for a long weekend away to decompress. Unfortunately on a late afternoon hike, she is attached by a wolf. Before the wolf can kill her she is rescued by a strange man. That’s the starting point of her new life.
I really liked this story, it was a large book but wasn’t boring or filled with unnecessary information that causes the story to slow down. The characters were great and you can definitely relate to them. My biggest complaint is there is so much missing! We don’t get any backstory. Plus there are so many questions asked throughout the story, with hardly any of them being answered. I hope that with other stories, questions are answered along the way. It doesn’t end in a cliffhanger per say, but does leave you asking what happened with x, y, and z.
