Honor comes in all sizes. Shayna Morgan has been a little bit of everything in her life—a daughter, a niece, a sailor, an investigator, and homeless. Nerve damage has left her with only partial feeling on her right side, and pain threatened to cripple her. Family pulled her home from where she slept in her car outside of DC, but it was the men and women of the Brotherhood Protectors who inspired … who inspired her and gave her a purpose. She may not be able to fire a gun with any accuracy, but her new project fulfills her in so many other ways—helping other female vets just like her. It’s all hard, honest work and good sweat until a shadowy threat takes aim at her ranch.
Purpose comes in all shapes.
Fergus “Oddjob” Roper went into the Air Force at 18, before making a lateral move to the Navy, and then left the SEALs when he was 33. After 15 years of service, two wars, multiple deployments and 3 degrees, he’s looking for his next mission. After a year in Texas working with a horse trainer specializing in equine support animals, he’s heading to Montana to visit with old friends. He came for the beer, and stayed for the women…one woman in particular. Oddjob doesn’t mind mucking stalls, or helping out on the project—but what he wants is to shield the woman who saved his life, even if she doesn’t know it.
Danger doesn’t always take a direct approach, but Oddjob plans to have Shayna’s back as she gets ready to tangle with a whole new kind of enemy.

Although this book was also action packed, it had a different impact on me than the books I have read so far. This one included a broken female Veteran. Even though this is a fiction, it caused me to think about how all of our veterans are treated. I loved her strength and will to not only survive for herself but also keep going for other female veterans. This one made me think a LOT. Great read.
Action-packed, intense fast read.
Shayna and Oddjob and lifelike characters that you can’t help but love. Shayna is good at giving but doesn’t want to be seen as weak or needy. This story shows how some vets try to coop with regular living outside of being a soldier. How they can fall between the cracks and come home only to become homeless because they can’t keep a job due to medical wounds, and PTSD. It also shows their determination to help others while working back towards normal as much as possible.
Shayna and Oddjob work together along with some of the Brotherhood Protectors characters to figure out who or what is causing a lot of problems around the ranch. I like that both characters are strong despite their weaknesses or because of them.
An enjoyable read that I highly recommend.
Shayna is a wounded marine who has suffered a lot and has some serious issues. With the help of her uncle she’s not living in her car anymore. She’s got a ranch to bring other female vets with problems and their families to recoup and rehabilitate. Oddjob is sent as her bodyguard and to find out what has been going on there. Some action but not a lot. Great story. My heart goes out to all miliarty who suffer PTSD and injuries from the war.
Shayna has a dream, a facility to help female Veterans make their way back to whatever their version of normal will be. Thanks to a generous benefactor she has the property and backing to make it a reality. As she works on the renovations to the ranch property, incidents have her seeking aid from Hank Patterson and his Brotherhood Protectors.
Fergus ‘Oddjob’ Roper is the man set to the job of protecting her, and he embraces the task by also helping with her horses. As they take a walking tour of the property things take off with a literal bang!
Gotta love those explosions, they bring people together pretty darn quick.
However, the puzzle only gets more complicated as clues to the identity of the culprit fail to show up.
I did a lot of chuckling over Oddjob liking MREs. Almost as much as Shayna.
Oddjob has another reason for being her protection, but he didn’t plan on falling for her. His humor and straightforward attitude help Shayna with her own recovery.
I loved the slow build up of the relationship and the suspense surrounding the mysterious incidents.
Sexy, witty, and a twist I didn’t see coming.
Definitely a must read!
