As an event planner, Gillian Romano’s an expert at rolling with the punches and solving unexpected problems. But her flight getting hijacked while returning from a job is definitely out of her skill set. Passengers are being murdered, and when she’s chosen by the terrorists to be their mouthpiece, even more innocent lives rest on Gillian’s shoulders. Only the calm, reassuring voice on the other … other end of the line keeps her sane, forging a bond with a stranger she’s never seen but trusts with her life.
Walker “Trigger” Nelson and his Delta Force team have spent years training for close-quarter hostage rescue. When they get called to South America to attempt to save an airplane full of hostages, he doesn’t expect to meet a woman who rocks his world in the middle of the op. Gillian’s cool head and bravery in the face of certain terror—and possible death—blows him away. Any outcome that doesn’t include Gillian leaving that plane alive and well is not an option.
After their safe return to Texas, both Trigger and Gillian are excited to find out if their instant chemistry can survive the real world. Neither realizing that someone isn’t happy with the outcome of the hijacking, and is watching, waiting, for a second chance to strike.
** Shielding Gillian is the 1st book in the Delta Team Two Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

This is the 1st book I read by Susan Stoker. I loved this book’s storyline. I loved the action in this story. I loved the hot & steamy scenes. I loved Gillian’s character. I loved Trigger’s character. I loved the ending. Awesome job Ms. Stoker.
3.5 stars. Interesting plot but very predictable and excessive, repetitive verbiage.
Starts off with a hijacking. Gillian was “selected” to communicate to the authorities for the requests made by the hijackers. That is how she met Walker as he was part of the Delta Force team sent in to help. Afterwards they wanted a relationship and he took it painfully slow until after he returned from his next deployment. Then more suspense…first she was called in to the DEA and FBI because they found out there was a 7th member of the hijacking team (because she was smart enough to keep the phone connected after he last call so the team could continue listening) and were trying to figure it out. She was then kidnapped by the drug cartel from Mexico running the drugs in to Austin…as she was set up by Andrea from the hijacking who was the falcon. When the drug load saw that Gillian had nothing to do with it…he let her go but with making her digest a drink that would make her forget…and there is so much more. Walker was such a nice guy but was trying to take it slow so Gillian didn’t think he only wanted her for play. I know that his Delta Force “name” is Trigger” but didn’t understand why sometimes the narrative would refer to him as Trigger and others as Walker. Didn’t seen necessary to me and found it a distraction. But other than that was a good suspense romance.
I always like the characters and suspense in Susan Stokers books. Easy but informative reading with just enough detail and suspense to keep me wrapped up in the story.
I am glad my life is not as threatened as hers!
Trigger and Gilly
Wow, the beginning of this story was exciting and really grabbed my attention. There was one sexist comment that I did not care for and occasionally Gilly made immature comments. Overall a good read.
I liked it so much I bought the next in the series.
Love her stories!
Good story. I hope that I would make some of the same decisions as Gillian. She’s brave without being over the top.
I enjoyed this book so much the first time through that I reread it a while later. It was as enjoyable with the second reading, despite knowing the plot twist(s). I had to rate this book in whole numbers, but would have chosen a 4.6 rating had that been an option. Gillian is a truly likable and capable heroine.
Awesome
I really liked the story but am not crazy about all the sex. For me it is just to much and distracts from the story line. Gonna take a vacation from Susan Stoker for a bit.
Another of Susan Stoker’s strong female romantic suspense books. I always enjoy reading her stories.
Same theme different characters
This book was a somewhat formulaic addition to Stoker’s library. We have the obligatory alpha hero who falls for the sweet strong woman. In this instance Walker is a member of a HRT and Gillianis a passenger on a plane who is hijacked. She is the woman the hijacker’s choose to be her mouthpiece. Walker’s team is there to rescue the hostages. She is strong and mentally nimble enough to transmit information to facilitate a rescue. Then there is the romance that ensues, followed by the mystery of the hijacker that got away (which wasn’t that big a mystery) and the inevitable second rescue and HEA. I give the book a solid 3.5.
A lot of romance with some thriller thrown in. Very likeable characters.
Loved the first delta series. Walker or ‘Trigger’ helps rescue Gillian and many others from a hijacked plane in Venezuela. They immediately had a connection. Loved the funny moment she is drinking and venting about thinking she had been rejected and he comes to find her and is behind her while she is ranting. Funny moment. lol. Love Walker. Protective and alpha without being controlling he only wants her safe and happy. And the sex. Whew.
I haven’t read or listened to one of these in a while. I loved the other Delta boys so I figured I would pick this up. I loved the story line. That Jillian is great. Very smart! I completely believed her story since she is good under pressure. Trigger and the Delta boys were a wonderful meet.
I did love briefly seeing the Delta team and that Annie! That part was wonderful!
I did listen to this on audio. Virginia Rose did a good job. Not sure if I will get the second. I didn’t feel too much connection to the team
Imagine being on a plane, returning from paradise to home, and it being hijacked! This is where Gillian finds herself. Luckily for her, and most of the passengers, Trigger and his Delta Force team has come to the rescue. Now Gillian and Trigger have to navigate a new relationship while keeping her safe from a drug cartel…the main ‘bad guy’ is quite a surprise. Some intense moments at the beginning…and a few close to the end. Enjoyed the love story between this duo. Looking forward to the next book. As always, the narrator does a perfect job with all of the characters.
I accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It’s Susan Stoker! What else is there to say?
