Finding her sister, Alabama, was Evanleigh’s first priority. She never expected her travels to California would put her square in the sights of an Alpha male SEAL. He’s hot, sexy, and a known womanizer, so why would he ever look twice at her?
Reese “Toad” Harkins used to love his bachelor life, but recently he’s found it empty. One look at the feisty woman searching for her sister, and he’s … and he’s intrigued. After talking to her, he’s hooked. The only problem is, she has a complication back home and he’s no poacher. The friend zone is new to him but he’ll take what he can get.
But when danger comes calling, Toad and both SEAL teams unite with some out of town friends to keep the sisters safe. After all, nothing comes between a SEAL and the woman he loves.
Not even complications.

Reese is interested in Evanleigh and is trying to figure out his feelings but its…….complicated. Evanleigh is looking for the sister she just discovered she had, along the way she discovers a friendship with Reese but its…….complicated. Their relationship is a slow burn.
The chemistry between Reese and Evanleigh was off the charts. There was so many obstacle to their relationship. There was some surprises I did not see coming in this read.
A great balance of romance, suspense and angst.
Shielding Evanleigh by Melissa Kay Clarke was a great book with drama, suspense and love. In my opinion this was a well written book with some really great characters. Evanleigh is on a mission to find the only family member she just found out she has and this leads her to California and finding a new friend she never expected. Reese”Toad” Harkins has always been known has the forever bachelor but he has found out he just fills empty and wants what his friends have. When he sees Evanleigh he is quite taken with her and he finds himself in a friend zone with a woman for the first time in his life. This is a story with some ups and downs and plenty of twists that will definitely keep you turning the pages quickly. I have to say I absolutely loved this book and these characters were just so lovable.
I definitely recommend this book.
I originally enjoyed Alabama’s and Abe’s story by Susan Stoker, so I was interested to see how this author handled giving Alabama a sister she so richly deserved and needed. And I can say that it was done wonderfully. Evanleigh is the sister Alabama needed, Reese is the man Evanleigh earned, and some other favorites made an appearance, too.
Evanleigh is trying to find the sister that she never knew about and ends up attracting the attention of Reese. He’s not exactly known for settling down, but he can’t help wanting to do exactly that with Evanleigh. And once he realizes that she’s in danger, wild horses couldn’t keep him away. Their slow burn from friendship to love wasn’t too slow and it kept me interested in their relationship and the story around them. I think that this author definitely did justice to the men and women in Stoker’s world.
