When Devyn Groves needed a place to go, to get away, she headed for Texas, to the town her Delta Force special forces brother lived. She never thought she’d stay, she just needed a safe refuge for a while. But then she met one of her brother’s teammates. Troy “Lucky” Schmidt fell for Devyn the moment he met her. But she was skittish, and seemingly not interested in any kind of relationship. But … relationship. But he slowly wore her down and convinced her to take a chance on him.
But when the reason she fled her hometown shows up unexpectedly, Lucky has a feeling the woman he loves more than anything is ready to bolt once more. But when danger strikes out of nowhere, Lucky, and the rest of his Delta team, have to band together to find one of their own.
** Shielding Devyn is the 5th book in the Delta Team Two Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Lucky?
Lucky knows just how fortunate he is to have Devyn in his life, but when she finally agrees to be his, he feels like the luckiest guy in the world. So what does he do when she is taken and they have no way of knowing where she is…he cannot breathe without her, cannot think clearly, cannot live…how is he supposed to just wait….
Dev knows she needs to stay strong, alert and positive, Lucky will find her, all she needs to do is keep breathing….but that becomes increasingly harder to do.
This relationship has been brewing for the past year, Lucky has been so patient, knowing if he pushed for more she would run. But seeing them finally come together, especially with Angel and Whiskers too, it’s like you can finally breathe after holding your breath for the last year. I love this series, although I am devastated that we have to wait another six months for Sierra’s book…especially when we know just how brutal her captivity is!
I loved this book. I was happy they finally got their story. Looking forward to the next book in line.
Another great Susan Stoker book! This one features Delta team member Lucky and vet tech Devyn (sister of Grover). These two have been eyeing each other for a year and when Lucky adopts a dog and cat that have been abused, starved and rescued Devyn helps socialize them. Lucky decides he’s through waiting and goes for what he wants. He also wants to know what she’s hiding. Her other brother, his gambling problem and violence is the secret and he’s headed to town bringing trouble and danger for Devyn. We get the Delta team and their wives and girlfriends, action, suspense hot steamy scenes and love.
This is the 6th book I read by Susan Stoker. I’m sorry I stopped reading this story at chapter 4 because it didn’t grab my interest.
As usual, Ms. Stoker does a magnificent job of writing about heroes and heroines, Lucky and Devyn did not meet in the usual tension filled way. They “danced” around each other for a while before things got sweet, sexy and intense. I loved the plot and the bits of misdirection from boss to family. It makes everything so relatable because everyone can relate to issues with family whether small or large. It really doesn’t matter Susan Stoker doesn’t disappoint!
Gambling, violence, and kidnapping.
Devyn is Grover’s little sister whom we met before in the series. She has a secret that could cause conflict in her family and she doesn’t want to be the one to cause it. Battling with cancer almost causes her parents to get divorced. Her secret caused her to run away. She doesn’t feel safer than with her older brother Fred, aka Grover.
Lucky couldn’t get his best friend’s sister out of his mind ever since he met her. He wanted to get to know her more, but she kept him at arm’s length. Wanting to figure out what’s making her skittish, Lucky takes her brother’s advice; adopting two pets and calling Devyn for help.
The two of them are trying to make the pets comfortable. As the days go by, Devyn’s secret show it weighs. With Lucky she feels safe, so he could keep her secret away from her brother. Her family had suffered enough because of her. She doesn’t want to add more.
Hope, loyalty, family, and love are found inside this book. The story was so heart-melting. Two skittish pets and a woman to match their skittishness face the most patient man. He has to gain their trust and protects them. I loved this book.
“Shielding Devyn” is the sixth book in the Delta Team Two series and it is the story of Troy “Lucky” Schmidt and Devyn Groves. Devyn was sick as a child and she didn’t want to cause anyone any extra anxiety and that is still how she is as a grown woman. When things get tough she goes to live in the same town as her brother Grover, who happens to be a Delta Force operative and is on the same team as Lucky. Grover gives Lucky his permission to date his sister, but what he really wants to know is what Devyn is running from. Devyn is a vet tech so Grover and Lucky come up with the idea for Lucky to adopt an animal and ask Devyn for advice on how to handle the animal. What poor Lucky ends up with are two very skittish animals to go along with the very skittish woman he is interested in. Lucky has his hands full with Angel and Whiskers, but with help from Devyn maybe he can not only get the animals to trust him but Devyn too. Once Devyn tells him her secret will Lucky be able to help her?
Aww, I so loved the interactions that Lucky has with these two fur babies.
Ms. Stoker is one of my favourite authors, I love all her books and all her heroes and heroines. They are all individual and real people, with real issues. “I’ve been yours from the moment I met you.” These guys are all in once they find there perfect match, it just takes a while sometimes for the ladies to figure it out, sometimes the guys too! Always an interesting experience for the heroines that they find themselves in, this one is totally out there. I will always recommend Ms. Stoker’s books.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
I’ve not read anything bad by Ms. Stoker and this one’s no different.
A great hero and heroine and a great book. Like all of his teammates he moves slow, but when he does it’s hot. Oh my, the scene where he got his pets….so sweet. I wasn’t sure what kind of danger Devyn would get into, and it was one I hadn’t read before. Looking forward Ember’s story, and bless Sierra’s heart she’s still stuck in that cave.
OMG this suspenseful story had me holding my breath and frantic at one point. I can only imagine being in that situation, scared, alone and desperate. Lucky handled both Devyn and his fur babies perfectly, we all need someone like him to be our hero. Definitely an attention grabber, this book held my focus until really late at night just so I could finish it. Fabulous characters except one, I hated the way he treated Devyn.
Loved it!
Love Susan Stoker’s books
Love Susan Stoker books and this one was one of the few misses for me. Without any spoilers I just don’t understand why Devyn made her brothers gambling a huge secret. On top of that the ending where she is pretty much abandoned by her parents so they could support the man who PUT HER IN DANGER because he needed help…nope. I just didn’t like this one. I wanted more since we had built up this relationship for many books and it just fizzled for me.
Susan Stoker as usual draws you in to where you can’t put it down.
Thumbs-Up!! Devyn and Lucky’s story was well worth the wait. It is exciting, unpredictable, sexy and romantic. I really enjoyed getting to know Devyn better. She was closed off throughout this series, it was nice to see her open up. It was also great to watch Lucky stand by her know matter what but also give her the space and confidence to be her own woman. Definitely a great romantic suspense that will keep you glued to your seat to the end.
Devyn needs to get away, so she visits her brother, a Delta Force officer, who lives in Texas. Lucky has been attracted to Devyn since she arrived but she keeps him at arms length. Lucky is a member of the Delta Force . He talks to Fred, Devyn’s brother, and asks how he can get in good with her.
Devyn works in a vets office and anything having to do with animals she melts. Lucky adopts a cat and dog and both have been traumatized and he asks Devyn for help. They start spending more and more time together and can’t imagine their lives without the other. Lucky and the team is on a training op when Devyn is taken. Lucky will stop at nothing to save her as long as Devyn holds on.
I loved this story. Action and sex. You can really never gone wrong with one of Mrs. Stoker’s books.
Devyn Groves is Grover’s sister, she moved to Texas to be near her brother when things closer to home became unbearable for her. She won’t tell anyone what’s wrong and Grover’s really worried about her even with her assurances she’s not sick again.
Troy ‘Lucky’ Schmidt is one of Grover’s teammates, and he wants to date Devyn. He wants to be the one to break down the walls she’s built around her. He seems to be making some headway but she still won’t confide in him knowing he wouldn’t keep secrets from her brother. Grover offers advice of getting a pet to assist him in winning Devyn over and Lucky does more than give it a thought. He goes to the shelter and adopts a dog and a cat that had bonded but the staff couldn’t get them acclimated and they had been on the kill list for the end of the week.
He calls Devyn and confesses what Grover had suggested, but wanted her to understand that adopting Angel and Whiskers wasn’t a whim, it was because they and him need the connection. He also needs lots of stuff but can’t leave them yet or bring them to the store.
This certainly is an major ice breaker for these two and eventually they reach a compromise on what’s bothering her. Unfortunately the problem shows up in Texas and brings some trouble with it.
I love this story, the new pets and all the guys. There’s fun, laughter, tears, some OMG and some sizzle as well. You should also know that Susan is driving us crazy with peeks of Sierra at the end of all these books.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series, which still isn’t Sierra’s LOL.
4.5
Devyn Groves has been keeping secrets from her brother and their friends for a while now, however, that same secret that made her pack her things and relocate to Kileen, might be the best decision she’d ever made. Here enters Troy “Lucky” Schmidt, a Delta Soldier who has his eyes on Devyn from the first time he sees her. Lucky and his teammates know Devyn hasn’t been honest with all that happened that made her move near Grover, but Lucky is determined to get the truth from her and help her in any way he can.
We may not have the usual suspects or perpetrators, however, this doesn’t mean the book gets tiresome. I’ve enjoyed the developing relationship between Lucky and Devyn, how he brings down her walls and how a pair of furry friends can help accomplish that. Their chemistry is off the charts, that includes their dancing around each other in the previous books doesn’t go unnoticed by the other members of the team, including Devyn’s brother. Everybody is waiting for the moment they stop dancing around and finally admit their feelings.Furthermore, those feelings are going to be tested, when Devyn’s secret comes out, a secret that can change the dynamics of a family separating them or bringing them closer than ever. She just has to trust Lucky, their friends and herself.

Susan Stoker is a master of her craft: writing about sexy Alpha males with a tender heart and strong, yet vulnerable, women who love them, and all the while informing you of social issues. She never disappoints. This book grabs you from page 1 and doesn’t let go.
