My name’s Rosie and I come from a dynasty of sorts… the Sons of Templar, maybe you’ve heard of them.I just happen to be the daughter of one of the founding members and am the sister of the current president. The fact I’m a woman means I don’t wear the patch, but it’ll never change the fact that I’m a Templar by blood. We’re known as royalty in the outlaw world. Though, the dynasty is dancing on the … the dynasty is dancing on the right side of the law these days.
That doesn’t mean that the law and those who enforce it are friends.
It will remain the one constant in my tumultuous life. The one rule in our law-free existence.
Befriending the law and those that enforce it is a betrayal.
Which means me being one half of a doomed love is that much more comical when he’s a cop.
Or was.
Before I went and ruined it all.
Before he shattered that shield he wore to protect society in order to protect me.
He saved me and I damned him.
I damned myself too, but to be honest, I was damned long before that.
This is the second book in the Greenstone Security series, it can be read as a standalone.

Shield
Love is painful. Love is brutal. Love is sacrificing everything. Rosie and Luke love. Hard.
Their love is a lifetime. It begins nearly at first sight, as children, and lasts a lifetime. The story happens behind the scenes of so many others, because love also blinds. Rosie’s love for her family blinded her to her own heart. Luke’s love for Rosie instilled a hatred for her family that seems insurmountable.
This isn’t a story- it’s a saga. To really understand I highly recommend you first read the stores of the people Rosie loves most- her family.
When lines are blurred and it’s impossible to say what is good and what is bad, struggles abound. Luke is a cop determined to follow the letter of the law. He struggles to understand how even the law can’t fix everything. Rosie is an outlaw determined to step outside that law every chance she can. But here’s the kicker- Rosie’s brand of “bad” really isn’t. She stands up for those wronged, and seeks justice where it typically cant be found. Luke’s brand of “good” isn’t always. He learns that rules don’t mean bad things won’t happen.
Anne proves again that fairytales are ugly, dark stories. Happily every after sometimes means happy for now, and we’ll figure out the rest as we go. But no matter what, there is love. So. Much. Love.
Since I was first introduced to Rosie and Luke in Making the Cut, I have been patiently waiting for their story to be told. I knew that it would not be all hearts and flowers, but to see them finally come together was amazing. They fought their feelings for a lifetime, they fought what was ultimately meant to be since Rosie was 5. Sometimes it takes not only the right person but the right circumstances to see what was right in front of you. I loved that Luke did not want to change anything about our spitfire and that Rosie was able to accept that Luke was not all squeaky clean. Rosie is truly the glue that holds her MC family together!!! If you have read any of Anne’s books than this one needs to be next on your list!!
I was fortunate to receive an ARC of Shield by Anne Malcom and I absolutely loved it! a 10 star read for me!
Since first reading Making The Cut (Sons of Templar). We have gotten to know Rosie, sister of the Sons of Templer president and Luke, the cop. There has always been an attraction between them and with each of them on the different sides of the law it was never going to be an easy road.
Rosie is strong, hilarious and also fragile. She has a dark side and we discover who she really is.
Luke lives by the rules wanting to do the right thing until he starts questioning those rules and what is actually right.
Their story takes us over two decades. Their story is dark, powerful, raw, honest and real.
Rosie and Luke’s journey is heartbreakingly beautiful and an EPIC love story.
I highly recommend reading Shield just have wine, chocolates and tissues handy!!!
Thank you Anne Malcom for your amazing words!!!
If there was ever a time when we could rate books to up to a million stars… The time would be now!
Ever since I read Anne Malcom’s Making the Cut 2 years ago, I’ve always wondered about Rosie and Luke. As you’ve seen in my other reviews, Sons of Templar is my favorite series ever. Honestly, I love every single book she’s written. All of Anne’s books are amazing…
Shield is no different.
The second book in the Greenstone Security series is a darkly beautiful story will keep you turning pages and will keep you from sleeping because you have to know what is going on. So many questions are answered. So many feelings are felt. You will go through an epic emotional rollercoaster. My heart was broken, then it was healed, then beat up, then consoled…. The darkness balances well with the humor and sarcasm that we all love. The character development is phenomenal.
Rosie and Luke’s relationship is one that will go down in history. You know the saying, “Love conquers all?” Well… It’s true. Anne Malcom wrote about it in Shield.
This is honestly one of the greatest books I’ve ever read. I HIGHLY, absolutely, 100% recommend this book.
Anne is honest in a way other authors aren’t. She isn’t selling the fairy tale of an easy happily ever after here. No she tells us about real love. The love that is as brutal and painful as it is beautiful and peaceful. The love that takes time, work, tears. The kind that faces insurmountable difficulties and doesn’t conquer them alone but helps along with a lot of fight, grit and determination. The kind of real love that lasts because it takes hard work, bearing of the soul and tears. That kind of love is real and beautiful because of it’s imperfections. She captures that beautifully. Better than any book I have ever read. She captures the struggle for love and the reasons it’s entirely worth it even when it hurts. This book may make your heart ache but in the best way. Rosie and Luke are who we have waited so long for and their story while difficult is beautiful for those complexities. It may not be an easy read if you have been waiting for their story; we all knew it wouldn’t be an easy read. It is a worth it read though. It will bring you out the other side believing in loves ability to survive the toughest of thing’s in a way no other book could. I really don’t think there could have been a more perfect story for Rosie and Luke. You will need snacks, wine and tissues for this wild journey but it’s worth it. If you read the story up until now then you NEED this book. If you haven’t then what are you waiting for? You need this truth, struggle and beauty in your life. Your still going to get your HEA but with one wild ride to get there.
This has got to be my favourite Anne Malcom book yet. This book was everything; dark, emotional, riveting, and full of angst. This book took me by surprise with such darkness from Malcom, but I loved it.
Not only is the plot enthralling and enticing – you won’t be able to stop reading – the writing is absolutely beautiful. The metaphors and the symbols are sublime, and the style of the writing itself is just flawless. I’ve never highlighted so many quotes in my life.
And Rosie… I can’t review this book without mentioning Rosie. Such strength and independence, yet also guarded and fragile. A complex and complete character. A character who stands up for what she believes in. A character with strong morals and beliefs. A character, who just like a rose, absolutely beautiful, but protects herself with her thorns.
The concept that good and bad are not cut in dry in this book is integral and beautiful – can you tell I’m running out of adjectives? The book dances in the shades of grey between good and bad, while Rosie insists there is only black and white. A shattering perspective that will take the reader on a wild ride.
As stated above, this is Anne’s best book yet.
I read this book a couple of days ago and I have been trying to calm my racing heart so I can think straight enough so I can write this review. But even now I don’t believe I have recovered enough. But here goes…..
Before you start reading make sure you have tissues, chocolates and if your a drinker wine is needed, perhaps something stronger
Anyone who knows me knows I’m never going to fit into the category of ‘most cases.’
Rosie is kind of a contradiction, she is a very strong and independent person but she is also fragile and guarded. She is very protective over the ones she loves and cares for. When I think of Rosie I think of the Poison Dart Frog, it is very pretty to look at but one touch can be very deadly, she may be small and not look like a threat but mess with her and watch out.
True love is never roses and chocolates, love is hard work, it takes time and tears. Love is about compromises and bearing your soul and darkest secrets.
This story is about Rosie and Luke a lawman and a criminal. Sort of a modern day Romeo and Juliet. If you are familiar with these two characters from Malcom’s previous books and you think you know all about them, well think again, forget all about what you think you know cause you are about to go on one hell of a journey.
Anne Malcom you have done it once again, one fantastic story. I am so over the moon that I have been aloud to read and review this book before it’s release day, and will forever be great full to the hard work you put into writing these stories xx
Like most I have been waiting for this book since the beginning and all I can say is it was worth the wait!!! I can’t put into words how amazing this book was. I laughed, I cried, and I fell in love. Anne broke my heart and then put it back together. I can promise this is a book I will read over and over again. Rosie and Luke were made for each other.
What I can start out that 5 stars is clearly not enough stars for this book. I had only discovered Anne last year and have devoured all of her books.
Rosie and Luke’s story is another epic one that is one of my all time favorites. This story begins when Rosie is little and goes through her life of the trials she had to go through to find herself. Luke was raised as the sheriffs son and Rosie’s family is the opposite of what he thinks are good people. These 2 go back and forth for decades fighting the attractions that is there.
Through Rosie’s trials I felt for her and could understand her feeling she is not good enough for the good guy and doing what she needed to be being the Princess of the MC but never fully a member. Luke being raised to uphold the law no matter what finds it hard to do so when it comes to Rosie. He is willing to throw it aside when it comes to her and it makes him question everything what his job is supposed to be.
Anne Malcom is an amazing author and I always get excited when I hear she is working on something new.
Have you ever tried to push two magnets together when their poles are facing the wrong way?
The converse power of magnetism how when the poles are in the wrong position they repel each other so effectively. But, align the poles in their correct position, and you have a force to be reckoned with and try as you might you cannot pull them apart, that is the story of Rosie and Luke!
Throughout the Sons Of Templar series we have seen this battle storming in the background, these two headstrong stubborn and passionate apparent polar opposites, Luke on the good side, the law man with his shiny shield and Rosie, the biker princess from the criminal underbelly of the MC.
This battle of wills is built on loyalty, Rosie’s to her MC family, her girls and their way of life that has nurtured her and who she would die to protect, and Luke’s to his misguided fight to protect Rosie from the darkness that he believes the MC continues to bring into Rosie’s life.
But not everything is cut and dried, black and white, as even Rosie would have herself believe, and as this story takes you back and forth in time revealing their story and the complexity of their love, from their childhood beginnings to the events which threaten to push them further apart, both Rosie and Luke learn the truth of where their power lies, in their love and aligning their strength to tackle their demons together.
Anne does a beautiful job of painting this tale with such vivid colour, that is not always pretty, as love often can be, it wounds, it hurts and the pain lingers, but it always worth it whatever the challenges, whatever the outcome.
Rosie and Luke most certainly have their challenges but as their family remind them they are not alone in the fight, and love can triumph in the end.
5 painful lovely stars!!
This book is amazing! Ive read Anne Malcom’s Sons of Templar series and having Rosie pop up in all those books had me intrigued about who Rosie really was. To say I’ve been very impatiently waiting for Rosie and Lukes story is an understatement and this book definitely didn’t disappoint.
This is going to be a vague review. The writing in this book is beautiful. The characters aren’t what you first think they’re going to be and they’re a lot more complex than I was expecting. Their story is heart breaking and painful in the best way possible. It will consume you, you’ll be desperate for Rosie to get her HEA even though you know she’s fighting against the odds and it’s got everything I want from a romance. Hot, alpha men and strong females with a story that kept me hooked from start to finish.
I don’t know where to even start. I have been looking forward to Rosie and Luke’s book since the first Sons of Templar book. Their romance and love for each other has always been there, it just took a couple of decades for everything to fall into place so they could be together.
They were kinda like Romeo and Juliet. Luke is a cop. Rosie is a MC princess. Those two types of people don’t go together. But Rosie was never one to follow rules and Luke finally realizes that the only way he can ever be happy is if he has Rosie.
This book was so well written. The storyline was phenomenal, the character development on point. If you like MC romances, mixed in with a bit of security guys, plus mystery and suspense, this is a book for you. Only I will caution you in saying you need to read the first Greenstone Security Book first, and if you want the entire back story, Read Anne’s Sons of Templar series.
Rosie and Luke, star-crossed lovers, destined to pine for each other but always end up with someone else, finally, their story. I have been anxiously awaiting this book since the first Sons of Templar book- a long, long time ago. If this is your first Anne Malcom, I’d start elsewhere in her backlist. There are so many prior characters that if I hadn’t read previous books, I think I’d be lost. I loved those books, so I loved catching up with all those folks. With that said, I had extremely high expectations for Rosie and Luke. Did it deliver? Yes, I think so, for the most part. This is very dark read. I’ll repeat, very dark. It’s not like her rockstar books. This is definitely its own series, emphasis on angst and extremely unpleasant subject matters. Trigger warnings. Rosie is hard, beyond strong, but emotionally broken. Luke is pretty amazing throughout the entire thing. I loved him coming into his dark side. I wish he had his epiphany long ago, but he finally delivers here. I usually don’t love flashbacks, but this author uses them well. A HEA that is so richly deserved. I don’t want to give spoilers, so, yeah, it delivers. I highly recommend. Solid 4.5 stars.
I was lucky enough to BETA read this story and I absolutely adored it. Anne’s writing has grown so much and this story cements her place as a favourite author for me.
Rosie and Luke are characters we have gotten to know in the SOT series. Characters on either side of the law who have always fought their attraction to each other.
Rosie especially was a fixture in every story, providing support for her girls, kicking butt when needed and being her general hilarious self. What we didn’t know was how deep her dark side ran. It’s in Shield that we find out who Rosie really is.
Luke. Well Luke is now my second favourite male character after Bull. He is complex. He has a firm moral code that he lives to, always striving to do what’s right. That is, until he questions what right actually means? He’s also one of the best dirty talkers ever. New panties required ASAP.
– I’m not about right anymore. Never want to be again if that mean’s I’ll never sink into that sweet pu$$y.
The thing I loved the most about this story is the history between these two characters. As readers we had no idea how long they’ve loved each other, or how many obstacles came between them. Their paths crossing as children that would change the course of both their lives. This is the ultimate story of unattainable love – slowburn at its best.
“La douleur exquise – The heart-wrenching pain of loving someone completely unattainable ”
While reading this one I cried, I swooned, I laughed, I gasped out loud and then I cried some more. This is not a pretty, happy read. There were points in this story where I had to take a moment and regroup. It’s a dark read, but god it’s a beautiful one.
Ultimately it’s a story of what you’re willing to do, or what you’re willing to let go of for the one you love. The answer. Everything!
“The bravest thing you’ll ever do in your life is let someone love you, love them back.”
So I just finished this and I think I’m need of chocolate and lots of it! I have so many thoughts running through my head its hard to put them altogether for this. But I will say this if i could give more than five stars I would give so much more.
I absolutely loved this story. Rosie and Luke are a perfect couple. Two people on the opposite side of the law. Rosie, the heart and soul of a band of outlaws, a Motorcycle Club. Luke? Well he is the law. Being with each other would cause nothing but trouble.
Both have loved each other since they were kids, but fought the attraction to protect each other. Him protecting her from the law and she protecting him from her family and her fear that somehow she would change his good boy image.
It is a battle of wills and her brother. Her very over protective older brother. Her brother wants no part of them being together. Will her brother succeed? Will they give into their love and say the hell with everyone? You’ll just have to read to find out.
You won’t be sorry. Every word I have read by Anne has moved me, made me laugh, cry, and gasp out loud. She is amazing and her words being her characters to life.
Wow! Amazing! I’ve been impatiently waiting for Rosie and Luke’s story from the very beginning in Making the Cut. I knew this would be a brokenly beautiful epic story. I was not disappointed!! Good and bad is all relative, it’s what’s in your heart and soul. This story is Imperfectly perfect, as it stays true to Rosie and Luke. Their story spans years full of angst, love, pain, choices, regrets and ultimately acceptance. Roller coaster ride of emotions, so hang in for the ride it’ll be worth it. I highly recommend this book.
Alcohol, tissue paper and chocolate needed like now please!
I have so many thoughts going through my head but no way to really get them out. So what can I say about this book? Well I’m going to say this, Shield is freaking AWESOME! Heck the author is Freaking awesome! Anne Malcom tore my heart out and ripped it to shreds all throughout this book until finally she felt she did enough damage that she then gathered up all the pieces and sewed my heart back together again.
I never quite knew why this book was called Shield until the end of the story where finally it was explained quite clearly and I think it’s the perfect name for a perfect yet completely insane book!!
Anne Malcom most definitely knows how to weave her stories and and make you feel like you are in those stories and she most definitely knows how to send you on a whirlwind of a scary exciting ride.
Shield deserves more than five measly stars it deserves 100 I think…. I love this book, so I definitely highly recommend it to anyone that’s brave enough to take a leap without a safety harness to stop their fall!
Wow this book is absolutely amazing. I feel like I have been on an emotional roller coaster with Rosie! There was so much about Rosie that we did not know. Rosie has been through more than we ever knew. Rosie wants to be the protector of her group while sacrificing her own personal life. We see all of the previous characters again and this just pulls everything together. I knew Rosie’s story would be amazing when I started it due to the magnetic chemistry between her and Luke, and how much they absolutely tried to ignore it. As always I love how we get glimpses of the others in this one as well. I would highly recommend this series to anyone!
5 Love conquers all Stars
I had been very interested to see how this book was going to start, we’ve see Rosie from day one or should I say book one in The Son’s books. She’s been the rock to get her loved ones through their pain and heartbreak to the sunshine they deserved. But where was her happy ever after….
I saved the club. And broke my own heart in the process.
The Shield is the second book in the Greenstone Security series and it is just was dark and messed up as previous books. My love of Kick Ass Leading ladies continues with Rosie’s story. She doesn’t need a knight and shining Armor she needs her knight to stand back while she takes care of business.
The only thing worse than loving someone you couldn’t have was having someone you were scared to love. Scared because of what you knew it would do. Destroy everything.
My heart went through so much throughout this book and I found myself loving Luke and feeling his hurt. He has to go through so much to find what he’s looking for, but Love conquers all in the end.
Such a stunning, heart-breaking story filled with jam packed action along the away. Another cracker of a story by Anne Malcom.
