Sometimes you see love clearly. And sometimes it has to smack you in the face. When a stranger walks up and punches him in a bar, Ryan Kaye assumes there’s a good reason. And a one-night stand with his best friend’s older sister, Professor Amanda Dixon, is a really good reason. Except that it never happened. She says she’s sorry for the lie, but he doesn’t want an apology… He wants the night. … but he doesn’t want an apology… He wants the night.
The last thing Amanda needs is to add to her long list of commitments. But when tempted with the chance to fulfill a few fantasies with the hot paramedic she’s had dirty dreams about forever, she can’t resist.
One night is surely enough time for a renowned playboy like Ryan to teach her a few fun things. Thank goodness it isn’t enough time to fall in love…

She’s the One is the first in Erin Nicholas’s Just Everyday Heroes: Night Shift series (formerly known as Counting on Love). Like all of Ms Nicholas’s work, it is a warm, emotional, sexy read.
Amanda Dixon is the oldest of the four Dixon sisters who’ve become known as the Dixon Divas. Their elder brother Conner has his hands full with their exploits, but more recently, Amanda’s taken it upon herself to take some of that responsibility off his shoulders and keep an eye on her sisters herself. Being the responsible one all the time isn’t nearly as fun as being the one to cut loose though, and she can be excused for telling a white lie, right? After all, Ryan Kaye has had lots of one-night stands. Would he even notice one more name on his extensive list?
When a stranger punches Ryan in a bar, accusing him of loving and leaving, Ryan goes to track down the offended party in question. He’s not one to lie, but he’s never even touched the woman in question. And seeing her up close makes him realize that if he’s done his time, he’d really like to have actually done the crime.
Amanda and Ryan don’t seem like the perfect fit at first glance, but I love how Ms Nicholas shows them and us that they truly are. Their strengths complement each other’s and watching their realizations is a thing of beauty.
She’s the One is a terrific read, and I can’t wait to continue with the series!
This whole series is great. But this is the one that started 2 series. Recommend reading them in order although they can be read alone. Guys who could really be real life men. Although they do share their feelings more than most real life guys, they do provide a nice get away from it all fantasy read.
Beautiful
A great story of finding love with one of your brother’s friends. When you are the oldest sister and you try to keep the peace & things away from your over protective brother it’s hard to find it.
Great book, you’ll love Amanda and Ryan
What a great book, I loved Amanda and Ryan’s story. Their back and forth banter is amusing and they are so likable. Perfect for each other and their chemistry is over the top. Her three sisters and brother play into the story and it’s quite a family. Great read with lots of twists and plenty of drama.
One straight laced, responsible Dixon Divas, Amanda has taken on some of the responsibilities of looking after her 3 sisters from her older brother, Connor who has been the responsible father figure since their dad passed away years ago. Wanting to have more fun and fulfill some of her fantasies she tells a little white lie…she had a one night stand with one of her brother’s best friends, Ryan Kaye. The man known for one night stands!! Ryan ends up getting punched about the one night stand with Amanda that he knows it never happened so now he confronts her and she apologizes but he wants the one night instead of an apology…what comes next is something neither of them expects..
What a beginning to the Just Everyday Hero’s: Night Shift about the Dixon family, their friends and a continuation from the Day Shift!!
If you’ve read any of the Day Shift series, you got to know Connor Dixon, EMT, crushing on Sara and a thorn in the side of fellow EMT and Sara’s husband, Mac. Amanda is the oldest of Connor’s younger sisters, and she’s the older, protective, mama bear. She’s the responsible one, always showing restraint and often rescuing her sister’s from sticky situations. Especially Emma, the wildest, most outrageous, good-time girl of them all. That is until Olivia tells her sisters that her birthday wish is for Amanda and Emma to change places. She wants Amanda to spend a weekend in Emma’s shoes, which of course will involve time with a guy, and Amanda sets her sights on her brother’s coworker, Ryan. And that’s where things get interesting. Because as much as Ryan would love to spend a wild weekend between the sheets with Amanda behaving uncharacteristically, his plans and goals change when he finds out the reason for her seeking him out.
It makes sense that this book would be part of the Night Shift because Nicholas didn’t hold back on the heat level! I’m just lucky I was alone when I read certain scenes so there was no one to see me blush. But don’t let that give you the impression that’s all there is to this book, because it is so much more! I loved the depth and complexity of Amanda and Ryan and the stops and starts as their relationship grew. And it makes the reading so much better when challenges along the way help them both learn new things about themselves that make them a more well-rounded person and just that much better together. It was a little bit frustrating and a whole lot wonderful, following them on their humorous, touching, poignant journey to forever. I adored these two characters, as I’ve loved every character in this Just Everyday Heroes series so far, and can’t wait to read more!
WOW!!! I loved, loved, loved reading She’s the One by Erin Nicholas, the first book in her Just Everyday Heroes: Night Shift series. Ms. Nicholas knows how to create a wonderful love story, allowing them to find a connection and break through doubts and fears. I’m not sure how she does it but Ms. Nicholas keeps writing books that are better than the last, though I’m not sure how that is possible. It’s why she has become a go-to, auto-read author.
Amanda Dixon tells a guy who won’t take no for an answer that Ryan Kaye, a guy she never dated, ruined her for any other guy. After getting punched by a stranger for supposedly sleeping with Amanda Ryan decides that he wants what he’s been accused of doing.
I loved that Amanda stepped out of her goody-good girl phase and went for what she wanted. She needed to be herself, the true her not who she wanted others to think she was. Being the oldest sister and a natural mother hen, made her uncomfortable with all of this, but Ryan was enough reason to do this. Amanda needed to learn that she didn’t have to take on all the responsibility for her crazy sisters, but to share the load. Ryan also discovered a few things about himself. Despite his mother never marrying any of the men in her life, he did understand permanent or forever love with those men. He needed to believe that Amanda could truly know him and it was okay for her to be his forever friend.
Ms. Nicholas wrote a wonderful and loving story which drew me in as well as into the lives of her characters, making me forget the world around me. I had trouble putting this book down, turning page after page, not letting go until I turned the last page, still wanting more and really looking forward to the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book to other readers.
Laugh out loud fun, emotionally thrilling, sweetly sexy older brothers best friend to so much more romance filled with an amazing group of friends and family that I just adore….
Ryan is very laid back and zen about his whole approach to life, especially the women in his life…. Amanda is very straight laced and in control for the most part in every aspect of her life.. yet secretly she longs to let go and he longs for forever (something he is not familiar with).. loved this highly entertaining romantic adventure.
This is the first in this spinoff series.
So much love for Ryan and Amanda. He is an unapologetic playboy EMT. She is a doctor who feels responsible for all her siblings. When Amanda has the chance to take a wild weekend with her crush, what could possibly go wrong? Except they start liking each other for a lot more than the sexy times they keep having. Maybe they can really see each other through better and worse.
I adored Ryan!! For all the reasons all the women in the book adored him. He was funny and sexy and truly liked people just the way they are. And I loved Amanda! I loved that she wanted to take the time to be Ryan’s friend and really made him work for a date. I can’t wait to read the next book!!
This book was the perfect mixture of sweet and hot. I thought the way Amanda and Ryan first got together was hilarious and enjoyed watching the many stages that their relationship went through – it reminded me of the song about taking two steps forward and two steps back. Ryan wasn’t a guy I would have picked out of a crowd for Amanda, but it turned out, with the right woman, those qualities she needed in a partner were within him after all. I loved the way he supported her and understood her. Amanda was a character who I emphasized with completely. The need to be a good role model and protector for her siblings, oftentimes requiring her to stifle her own needs, is something most older siblings can relate to.
One thing I especially love about Erin Nicholas is her ability to create a world and the characters in it is such a way that EVERY character is someone you want to know more about. There were so many amazing supporting characters, including Amanda’s siblings and Ryan’s co-workers, in this book and I can’t wait to read their stories as well.
I really didn’t know what to think of this book at first. Bar and club scenes aren’t the usual setting for romances, but that’s where this one was…at first. You soon realize that the heroine is acting totally out of character and the hero might be too. The craziness was the result of something close to a dare where Amanda is supposed to react and do things the way her over-the-top sister does.
Several chapters in things start to reverse. Total beep-beep-beep reverse. The heroine has gone from a one night out on the town crazy person back to the person her family knows who wants to take care of everybody. Her one crazy night, date guy has gone from wanting to get her to bed as quickly as possible to wanting to take care of HER. His actions are really sweet and he makes progress in having a relationship with her.
I thought it was funny that when Amanda wanted to show Ryan that she liked him for more than sex, Ryan thought she was putting him totally in “the friend zone”. Miscommunication is awful in relationships and couldn’t get much worse than this. In the end, Amanda and Ryan were really good together. The heat factor in this book was great once it got back to a normal relationship. Nicholas blends just the right amount of heat and heart to leave you very content at the end!
WOW!!! Ryan and Amanda’s story is off the charts on hotness!!! This is one of those books that I am scared if I put it down for even one minute I am going to miss out on something juicy!!! This book was just that, juicy, hot, and a whole lot more!!! Amanda thinks Ryan is a player and she just wants to watch after her sisters and keep them out of trouble instead of letting her hair down and having fun for once! I loved Ryan and how he could see right through her and convince her otherwise!!! Great book, looking forward to book two!!!
So I know this story was published way back in 2013 but this was the first time I finally read it and I loved it. But I have to warn you that I had my doubts about Ryan and Amanda as the hero and heroine because of some facts in Chapter one that gave me doubts. But I am telling you to keep reading and once you get past the first two chapters it’ll all make sense. And then you will swoon along with me. Ryan and Amanda had some serious chemistry and I loved how they went from sexy to friends to a mixture of both. They were just so cute together and their love story was so much fun. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series especially with the new revamped covers.
