She begged God to rescue her. He said, “Go.” So she headed out into the blizzard. In a car that wasn’t exactly hers, with a dog who wasn’t exactly a rat terrier, she drove. Until she ran out of gas in the small Maine town of Mattawooptock. Mattawoopwhat? What on earth is God thinking? But it is there, in a weird little bathroom in a weird little church in a weird little town that Maggie Hansen … finds herself. And as God would have it, she finds a lot more than that.

This was a great story with wonderful real-life characters. It made me wonder if this little church and its interesting people really do exist out there. Not a dull moment in the book. A sweet story for the ladies–just enough tenderness to make one smile while reading!
A different kind of story, liked it very much. The reason I rated a 4, it ended so quickly.
Christian author who made a work of fiction seem real. I read all the books I could find by this author!
The story continues in the book entitled Daniel, which is equally interesting. I seldom spend hours reading during the day. I couldn’t put these books down. My housework suffered but my enjoyment level soared. Thank God I’m retired and have time to read!
I picked it up because it was free on BookBub. It was sweet and I loved the sarcastic humor.
In these times of increased homelessness in every town this story shows how good people can make a difference in the lives of others. Attitudes do count when trying to change your circumstances – the attitude of the homeless and that of those who interact with them – even if it is just for a few moments. Kindness and understanding go a long way in helping.
Loved it…
It started out a little slow, but quickly drew me in…love the story, the characters…and that through it all, God was present, and at work!!! It ended way to quickly for me….and it ended with tears…. …but they were tears of joy!!! Hate when I get to the end of a good book….sad….., but after reading the Epilogue…I saw that there was a SEQUAL… Have already download….and I am anxious to get started…
Thank you for this book Robin Merrill…looking forward to reading more….God Bless…
This story line was different from the “average” book and that helped keep my interest. Good book.
Loved the story, it says even in the darkest circumstances God can shine His light into them.
This is an inspiring Christian fiction book about a young woman that finds herself in a church/ homeless shelter. It is exactly the type of book I look for. I’m glad to have found Robin Merrill. I think I can trust her to write good, clean , enjoyable fiction.
A feel good Christian romance . It takes place in a homeless shelter with characters that teach you compassion and that changes in a human is a miracle.
What a beautiful, heartfelt story.
Maggie needs to go… she’s not sure where, but she has faith that she’ll find what she needs. She not only finds the place she’s meant to be, but also the people she’s meant to be with.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
great Christian book!
I say just WOW read this now. What are you waiting for ???
A look at how a young woman ended up in a homeless shelter when she left a bad relationship and ran away. She meets a lot of different people there and one man eventually wins her heart!
SHELTER by Robin Merril was a rather unusual, but entertaining and intriguing story filled with romance, humor, mystery and adventure.
This is the first book in a 2 book series. I have never read a book like this before. I loved the characters and connected with the story, even though I have never been homeless. This book is about a pastor/church that started a homeless shelter at their site. The main characters were selfless as they helped and connected to the people living at the shelter. The pastor was a living example of the way Christ lived. This book was an eye opener which made me realize how to be a selfless person, ready to serve Jesus! The second book is wonderful also.
An entertaining as well as faith-building realistic story with well-developed characters.
Gives a realistic portrayal of the difficulties encountered in homeless shelters from individual perspectives of both those living in the shelter and for those assisting and running the shelter. Some growth in spirituality and maturity also given.
Perhaps a bit simple, but showed how people can give and improve their lives and others.
Really liked original story line. The realistic characters their personalities and real life struggles. Very relistic on what homeless people go through, how some end up homeless and rhe systems issues. Like thst faith based and that love relationships realistic. As well as not overly sexual erotic situations when come to personal relationships. Cant wait to read more of this author.
