From Nora Roberts comes the #1 New York Times bestseller Shelter in Place (June 2018)–a powerful tale of heart, heroism…and propulsive suspense. It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at video game store tended to … together, and the manager at video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived.
The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies’ room, helplessly clutching her cell phone–until she finally found a way to pour her emotions into her art.
But one person wasn’t satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait–and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.

Nora Roberts never disappoints!
I was disappointed by part of the book. The two best friends disappeared for a good chunk of the book… it seemed like a mistake. Otherwise, like it for the most part.
I didn’t at first, but realistically it’s what is going on in our world ! It’s a good read and Nora held your attention throughout the book .,
I just finished this book and I love Nora Roberts, I have never read a book of hers and been disappointed I highly recommend this one .
Shelter in Place, a group of words which means to seek safety indoors and remain there until the danger is past and a signal is given that all is safe. For the shoppers, moviegoers, and those enjoying the mall not everyone will find safety. Those that survive will be haunted by memories of the time shooters went through the mall looking for people to kill. Survivors of those minutes go on with life and try to pick up the pieces while pushing the sorrow and memories away. However, one person remembers that day differently and years later decides it is time to make the survivors pay especially the ones that gained from the incident and most importantly the ones responsible for the death of a sibling. A gripping suspense holding your attention to the last page.
Nora Roberts always delivers! The subject was timely, the characters well developed too. I enjoyed the book.
I enjoyed the plot & the buildup, but found the ending a bit rushed.
This may be Nora Roberts best book yet. Very talented author. Great characters and a story that just pulls you in.
Hey y’all Nora wrote a book.
It is tragic, twisted with wonderful characters who are witty and funny; where two pages later you are once again caught in the horror of the twisted mind of the main protagonist. I blame her admirer who wrote a tale where her protagonist loved nora; cause in her stories there were HEA’s. (happily ever after).
I blame her because if she truly read Nora’s stories she would have learned that Nora Roberts writes about the journey of her characters. She writes about Never giving up. She writes about an individuals right to be themselves and NOT what parents, spouses, children, relatives or even neighbors determine and demand they be. She writes about the sheer exuberent joy of finding yourself and liking your self and celebrating that joy.
Shelter in Place lives up to a Nora Roberts tale but the author has incorporated the horror of reality of how life affects you when you have been targeted by a deranged mind. How skilled at her craft she is to have you laughing and giggling and two pages later you’re stomach twisted and gorge rising thinking to your self; what was I laughing about this is sick, oh yuck!
Read this book and find out why her name, Nora Roberts, makes a book a buy.
Really enjoy Nora Roberts when she writes suspense novels.
This was another great story from Nora Roberts. I’m continually amazed at her creativity in the subjects of her books. I’m so disappointed when I finish one of her stories. I want them to go on and on. That’s probably why I enjoy her J. D. Robb series so much. You can invest in Eve and Roarke because you know another book will come out in six months or so. Thx Nora for sharing your brilliant mind with us.
It is hard to believe a story about a shooting could also be a romance. However, that is how Nora Roberts writes. She makes the characters evolve and grow so that out of a tragedy can come love. I loved these characters and how their sad, shared past joined them together for a future!
From the moment that I read an excerpt from this book, I really wanted to read it. The excerpt reminded me of NINETEEN MINUTES by Jodi Picoult, but Nora Roberts’s book was very different but equally intriguing. The shooting that takes place in the mall is only the beginning of the story. The characters are strong and well-developed, all of them with multiple facets. My favorite characters were Cici and Simone, grandmother and granddaughter, respectively. CiCi was so loving and quirky that I fell in love with her immediately. Simone was damaged from the shooting in the mall, in a psychological way that leads her to flee and to seek shelter in her art. The whole theme of the book is that people need a safe place and it is a different place for different people. Readers of Nora Roberts will not be disappointed with her newest book that tackles such a heart-wrenching topic. I own a copy of this book on my Nook, and my review is an honest one, without any remuneration from anyone.
Nora never disappoints. This book started out with a bang and kept me riveted until the end. She takes an all too common occurrence in recent history and lets the reader experience the emotional turmoil that the characters suffer from. Wonderful characters…love CiCi! Great plot. Wonderful love story without erotica. Your teenager can read this book.
Could not put it down! Love her writing.
Loved this book! Something that could happen and seems to be happening more and more unfortunately. Makes you think about how something this major affects the lives of those who survived.
I love all of her books! They always keep me interested. Usually can’t put them down once I start.
Nora doing what she does Best!
I have read nearly every book she has written and I think this is one of her best stories ever. I couldn’t put it down. I finished it in two days. It really held my interest. I strongly recommend Shelter in Place, it’s a keeper!
I stayed up all nite to finish this book, then re-read it over the week-end. The best of her books in several years. Excellent!!
