From Nora Roberts comes the #1 New York Times bestseller Shelter in Place (June 2018)–a powerful tale of heart, heroism…and propulsive suspense. It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at video game store tended to … together, and the manager at video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived.
The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies’ room, helplessly clutching her cell phone–until she finally found a way to pour her emotions into her art.
But one person wasn’t satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait–and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.

Shelter in place is not typically a books I would read but I was curious. It turns out this book was very good. I just had to see what was happening next.
the story line was unique, the characters were believable and thoroughly inspiring.
keeps you reading
When I discovered the topic of this book, I was tempted to put it down and not read it. I didn’t think I wanted to read about the effect of a mass shooting on the lives it touched. But then Nora Roberts grabbed me and I couldn’t put it down. The shooting was only the beginning. It’s one of her best works!
I enjoyed this book very much.
As a Nora Roberts fan, this was another one I couldn’t put down. She is one of the best..
This was a great story. The initial act of violence was scary in how it can happen anywhere these days. But how people handled it made the book. And constantly guessing who was behind it. Good story!
You never know what to expect. So many twists and turned. How an evil mind can work. Gripping
I think is one of Nora Robert’s best romantic suspense novels. It begins with a terrible tragedy of a mall shooting and follows several characters that survived the shooting. The romantic connection doesn’t take place until half way through the book which is unusual. The story really pulled me in and it was hard to put down.
This is different type of book for Nora Roberts, not the typical romance. It deals with what is happening present-day regarding shooting. GREAT BOOK!
Nora Roberts has always kept a standard so it’s no surprise that this one is a good read. However, I especially recommend it because it touches on a topic that needs sensitivity and Roberts handles it with integrity.
Loved this book The story line is great. They Psycho is just that a psycho. So many feels. Loved it
Great Summer Read, have been reading Nora Roberts for over 30 years. Rarely disappointed, always strong characters.
This takes a realistic, although tragic, situation and turns into a realistic ‘after.’ Loved the character development, the story line, the realism. It wasn’t dark through the whole story. This one stayed with me for a long time – in a good way. Can’t wait to read it again.
Reed and Simone survived a mall shooting, along with many others. Many died, including the shooters. They survived but not without emotional scars. Reed took that experience and decided his career. Simone ran but her running helped her find what she was destined to do in life. Unfortunately, one person who was not there but helped, decided to administer her own justice after the death of her brother. That person brings a new level of terror to the survivors. As those deal with the new tragedies, Reed and Simone find each other and a new level of being. This book reeled me in and took my heartstrings, tying them in knots, and the emotional ending, whew! Make sure you have tissue.
I love anything Nora Roberts. Shelter in Place, does not disappoint. Murder mystery!!
What a fantastic psychological thriller. I love to read Nora Roberts’ books and this one is no exception. It really fits right in with all that is going on today in the world. It had me scared at times, laughing at others, but in the end I had tears in my eyes. Well done Nora.
Can’t go wrong with a Nora Roberts book
She is my go to author when I want to relax and read a good story. I seem to want more of her characters when the story is over. This was one of those.
This was an exciting book with some interesting characters and a fast-paced plot. Though it had similarities to other books like it, Nora Roberts always puts her own spin on things, which makes is her book.
Shootings have become almost “normal. This book reminds us that they aren’t.
