The FOURTH sly adventure in the Tubby Dubonnet Series, Tony Dunbar’s witty yet hard-boiled foodie-noir mysteries.“By far the best of a very good collection.” -Book PageTHE SEAMIER SIDE OF THE CRESCENT CITY…“Nothing… will have prepared you for Dunbar’s uniquely laid-back approach to natural disaster… Just enough nefarious plotting to punch up the drolly understated tableaux till you can’t help … drolly understated tableaux till you can’t help laughing, and just enough menace to make you feel you aren’t really missing anything by picking Tubby over the special-effects spectaculars at the local flick.” –Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
“Slick prose, upbeat characters, and the particular wonders of the French Quarter will commend this to any Skip Langdon or David Robicheaux fan.” –Library Journal
WATER WATER EVERYWHERE…ALSO CRIME
To out-of-town kingpin Willie LaRue, Mardi Gras seems the perfect time for a New Orleans heist – nobody, but nobody will be thinking about a single other thing. Parties, parades, chaos, alcohol – who could be concerned about a little thing like a bank job? Indeed, all might have gone well except for an out-of-season frog-flogger that threatens to flood the French Quarter – something even Hurricane Katrina couldn’t do.
Next thing you know the survivors – thieves and revelers alike – find themselves marooned together. As the LaRue gang plans its watery escape, raffish lawyer Tubby Dubonnet is obliged to take time out from his customary eating and loafing to thwart their murderous intentions. The body count rises as the tempest subsides, and Tubby finds himself fighting not only for his life, but (it seems to him) the very city itself.
A wry, compelling tale of The City That Care Forgot.
“By showing the damage that several days of hard rain could cause to the city’s fragile ecosystem, Dunbar makes the reader really care about its fate. He does the same for Tubby, a lazy, corner-cutting, slightly shabby, occasionally reckless but totally decent man.” –Chicago Tribune

An enjoyable read. I like the setting and the historical and cultural information conveyed by the main character. Well written; terse yet descriptive. Realistic human behavior and characterization. Light but compelling. Recommended.
I’ve already purchased another of “Tubby’s” stories. As a past resident of New Orleans I can say that it took me back. It’s real.
I liked the first one I read that happens during a heavy rain with flooding in the streets but could not get into this one.
Enjoyable series.
A little disjointed in beginning No real ending to story.
I really love the Tubby Dubonnet series. Great characters and amusing plots. Very well-written
I like that it’s set in Seattle.
Hero is a likable guy who solves the problem.
One of the better romances. There is actually a good story attached.
WOW what a story, handsome Sheriff Daniel Galvez is six feet of yummy… the ladies are always after him for dates.
He loves his town and everyone in it, always going the extra mile for anyone who needs help.
Lauren Maxwell is the only Dr in the town of Moose Springs. She is back after her father the mayor was arrested for years of corruption …
This book is a fictionalized version of life today – both good and bad. As always, reading a story written by this author will bring tension, heartache and romance. The events in this book are horrific and the next chapter will make you smile. Dr. Lauren called the small town clinic, home. She had grown up in this town, suffered devastating loss …
Loved this book!
a quick read for a rainy day
A good read but It could have used a little more steam for me.
Another captivating book from one of my favorite authors, RaeAnne Thayne!
Loved it! Like anything she writes.
Loved the his book! Another winner from one of my favorite authors!
An entertaining read. I appreciate that Thayne always has a plot twist and a decent story along with her romance.
I didn’t realize until after a couple chapters, that I had already read this book about a year ago.
The storyline is realistic, the characters are very good and I enjoyed it even the second time around.
A love story with lots of mystery and intrigue as Daniel and Lauren find their way to each other. They face some issues that are real in our society today and skillfully overcome obstacles. A great read and nothing less than I expect from Thayne.
