Discovering your ex is a serial-killing religious zealot would put anyone off dating for a good long while. That’s where Hudson “Taco” Vines’s head is at when he meets Koren, a woman who looks a little too much like his ex for comfort. But he can’t deny their attraction, and the more he gets to know her, the more Taco realizes how different Koren is from his ex, in all the best ways. It’s not … long before he’s feeling things for her that he’s never felt for anyone, ever. After the drama of his last relationship, maybe this is his reward…a supportive, comfortable life with a woman he’s coming to love.
Koren Garner is no fan of drama, and it certainly seems Taco and his friends have all seen more than their share. So you’d think meeting him for the second time at the scene of her own car accident would be enough to warn her away. But Koren can’t resist the sexy firefighter. A little drama might be worth the risk…even when an unknown threat starts targeting Taco’s friends. Someone’s setting fires, and the danger’s escalating with each blaze. Koren and Taco can only pray the culprit is caught before their relationship—and their lives—go up in smoke.
** Shelter for Koren is the 14th book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Great new release from Susan Stoker!
This was yet again another fantastic read from this author! Typically this author’s heroines are in the midst of drama, or have something that isn’t “typical” about them and yet this book the heroine does have a small drama happen but otherwise is “normal” A no B.S. type of gal who is who she is and Taco is man enough to admit when he has fallen. Suspenseful and awesome, this book not only brings you along for the ride, it catches you up with other favorite characters and gives you a hint of what’s to come with Moose and Penelope!

New release from Susan Stoker!
“Shelter for Koren” is the fourteenth book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series. It is the story of Hudson “Taco” Vine and Koren Garner and it is a fascinating read. Hudson has sworn off women, who could blame him after the way his ex-girlfriend did him, then he gets called to a car accident and has the honor of meeting Koren Garner. Taco can’t help but admire the woman but he cannot get past the fact that she favors his ex-girlfriend a lot. The more he gets to know Koren the more he sees that she is nothing like his ex at all, and he wants to get to know her better. But someone has different plans for Taco and his friends, in the form of fire. Koren hates drama of any kind, will she be able to hang around or will she realize that Taco and the drama surrounding him and his friends might just be too much?
Nobody does romantic suspense like Susan Stoker and with each book I read, I am hooked from the very first page!
Driving under a semi is a tough way to get someone’s attention. Not that she planned it that way but Koren breathes a big sigh of relief when the firefighter she’s attracted to is the one who cuts her out of the wreckage. Although Koren reminds him somewhat of his evil ex, Taco is relieved to find Koren still alive in what should have been a fatal crash. He’s sworn off women and dating but his attraction to Koren can’t be denied. Neither of them want drama in a relationship but there’s a maniac who’s decided otherwise. Someone is targeting Station 7 personnel and it soon becomes apparent that Taco is the main focus. Protecting and saving Koren from the maniacal suspect’s deadly intent becomes an all out effort.
This is s great book. It is suspenseful, action, has a crazy drugged up villan, arson, Smokey, all the firefighters and their women and has some hot steamy scenes. This book features firefighter Hudson “Taco” Vines and travel agent Koren Garner. These two meet for the second time when Taco comes to Koren’s rescue after a car wreck. She is lucky to have survived and impresses Taco with her wit and sarcasm in a tough situation. She asks his out but is whisked away by paramedics before he can answer her. Taco has sworn off women because of his serial killer ex and who can blame him. But Korean breaks through and the two are going strong until weird things start happening to the firefighters. No one is safe when so is trying to hurt Taco by harming the ones he loves.
Taco hated his first name Hudson his ex girlfriend called him by it she was the crazy person who got Quinn into trouble Koren is a travel agent she befriended Quinn the mystery for this one is someone is trying to put Taco in danger because he didn’t save her family member the whole team is affected but they solve the mystery Koren and Taco have sizzling romance and a happy ending
Another wonderful story that not only holds a lot of love but also hatred that grew over the last few months and leads to an epic ending I never could have seen coming. Very good. And you get to read about all the other firefighters one more time.
You really feel for ‘Taco’. He feels like everything is his fault and that he has caused those he lives pain. Ok first of all with the fire with moose’s barn and Smokey. I both agree and disagree with Korens response to Taco. And his response to the fire in breaking up with her. I get he was try to protect her. But her response and being a bitch was o my partially warranted and she took it too far making him the only bad guy. She knows his baggage and how helpless he felt after the incident with Jen and Quinn. To then learn all the fires affecting his friends are some how related to him and he thinks are his fault was a lot to swallow after everything and he was trying to protect koren. He was wrong to shit her out but she could have been more compassionate to the war he was putting himself through over everything. Despite how I didn’t really like that argument. It was resolved and they move on from it. Their relationship is nice. More normal than the others. I think. Despite Nadine and her pyro maniac vengeance. I love how everyone rallies in their group of friends. And I’m really worried about Penelope. Can’t wait for that book
Koren finds Shelter
Taco is one of the last firemen in their crew to have someone to go home to, besides Penelope of courseTaco meets Koren at a grocery store when Quinn introduces them but because of Taco’s recent experience he’s not keen to start dating yet, even if Koren intrigues him
Suffice to say when Taco shows up to the scene of an accident where Koren is a victim, things take a turn for the better However, danger lurks just around the corner.
Can’t wait to read Penelope’s story next as that brief little snippet at the end definitely was just enough to have me intrigued
Hudson “Taco” Vines doesn’t need to be set up with another date by his well meaning friends and the ladies especially after his ex-girlfriend who turned out to be a serial killer.
But when he meets Koren who looks like his ex he can’t help doing a comparison. But when Koren first meets him under a semi truck she asks him out for a date after his rescue. Taco doesn’t expect that but will he accept? After all she has 4 brothers who are all very protective of her so he’d have to navigate the “Are you good enough for my little sister?” until their first date and all worries are out the window.
Until someone starts setting fires at his firefighters friends and the person seems to have a vendetta against Taco but he can’t remember who or why they would target his family. But when they take Koren hostage it will be all hands on deck in the race to find her. Will he be in time to safe her?
I should have known this installment wouldn’t be drama free. Sweet Koren was just adorable and Taco finally got a strong enough nudge to take a chance again. Unfortunately before the potential HEA, Koren gets caught up in the drama targeted at Taco. Will she stick with him through it all? Great story, I would definitely recommend.
Poor Taco already carrying so much guilt for something not his fault, finally finding a little piece only to have it threatened. Intense story full of pain and hope, a big threat looming and worry about a friend pulling into themselves. I love these characters and those in the other series, I like how sometimes they crossover and mix into each other so we get more of them. Every story is unique and different but every one involves a strong independent woman in her own right and a very over protective alpha male. I can’t wait for Penelope’s book and I hope she finally gets some peace. Fast paced plot with lots of love and suspense, a fair amount of action and worry. It is engrossing and almost compulsive reading, very hard to put down.
I listened to this Audiobook and I was on the edge of my seat for so much of this book. It was so intense and so good and just so Susan Stoker! Another amazing book in this series that just never seems to get old. Susan is an amazing writer who comes up with new intense situations and different characters who are always awesome and complicated and I just love it! Taco and Koren are drawn to each other from the beginning although she is not a fan of drama and drama seems to follow him around. There are definitely some pretty intense moments in this book as I expect from this author but as always they are balanced with heat and humor and a host of other characters that really add to the story.
Taco first met Koren at the grocery store where Quinn introduced them. He really doesn’t want to be fixed up with anyone and Koren had a resemblance to his serial killer ex. The next time he sees Koren, he’s on the job.
A horrific accident one where the outcome usually isn’t good, but there were definitely angels in play here.
This isn’t the last time he sees Koren, feeling bad for not answering her, he goes to the hospital to see her and accept the date. He’s more than a little surprised to find she’s already being discharged.
This is the start of something, but when Koren doesn’t hear from him she decides to bring cookies as a thank you to the firehouse and let him off the hook.
A great meeting with all the ladies of the crew, who decide they like her a lot. But when things start heating up they do in a big way and in more ways than one.
We also get to see some more of what Penelope is going through and Smoky and Coco play a role as well.
So much going on, a lot of suspense and scary coincidences will have you turning the pages to the very end.
I can’t wait for Penelope’s book, even though it looks to be the last of this series.
This is such a great book!
It’s an awesome suspense romance.
She liked her boring, drama free life.
Dating was the last thing he was interested in doing. That is, till they saw each other again. Taco & Koren, are perfect together.
I loved everything about this Must
Read Story!!
Loved the book. The characters are fantastic.
great story
I really enjoyed this book.
One thing that was very different was the drama mostly centered around Taco and not one of the female characters. It was refreshing to see if from this point of view. Taco is a great man and only wants what his buddies have and to be a great firefighter. Not knowing who the intended target is, and why, is killing him especially when he finally found his forever.
I LOVED Koren in this book. I loved her no nonsense drama attitude. I loved that she called herself boring and was completely OK with that. She is a happy, caring, wonderful type of woman that I think we all can strive to be more like.
Penelope continues to break my heart. She is struggling so much and while everyone is trying to help her, she just doesn’t seem to know what to do.
