Elizabeth Parkins lived through a nightmare come true—getting kidnapped by a serial killer. Seeking a fresh start, she moves to Texas, but escaping her demons proves impossible when she’s too terrified to leave her own apartment. A small, accidental fire sparks a coping method she’d never expected, and brings an amazing man to her door.
Firefighter Cade “Sledge” Turner’s idyllic life ended the … ended the day his sister was kidnapped. Now he knows firsthand that tragedy can befall anyone, at any time. Meeting Elizabeth on the job was a gift. Cade can envision spending his life with this woman. He understands what she’s been through, is willing to help her heal…though even Cade is unaware of Beth’s new secret obsession.
As Beth takes steps to help herself heal, and Cade attempts to earn her trust and prove his own, they’re both about to be tested—in a way that could see everything they’ve worked for go up in flames.
* Shelter for Elizabeth is the 5th book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.
more
You kind of need a long breath for this one as it seems to go on forever though it is a very good story with an even better plot, namely being abducted and having to find your way back to life with all it’s obstacles along the way. Beth is quite a tough cookie and falling into a relationship with a firefighter might just be what she needed after unvoluntarily almost burning down the house…
Fairly formulaic addition to this author’s Texas law enforcement series. The characters were ok. Plot was a little predictable.
I usually like this author but just couldn’t get into this story. Probably because I didn’t care for a heroine who has only two friends and she goes against everything they stand for.
I thought this was an excellent story, however, still don’t like the heavy sex scenes.
Having read other books from this author, I had high expectations and sadly I was disappointed with this one.
Good Sunday afternoon read.
Another Intriguing Story
Susan brings her characters to life with each story. This one brings Beth who was rescued with Summer in the other series to a point where her story needs to be told. Penny is her friend and helper, they met through their therapy group. She suffers from extreme agoraphobia, and has a small grease fire when the fire department shows, and she meets Cade, Penny’s brother. He knows of Beth. He might be what she needs.
I enjoyed the book and the help with agoraphobia. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the language it doesn’t make a book better with cursing.
Elizabeth has been through alot but is fighting for her normal. Susan Stoker is my favorite
she did a great job with the agoraphobia
info. in this story and how it can be overcome.
great story. love the Alpha men
I like books that spotlight some of the crippling invisible diseases that people have. The characters are really likable and the problems are real. Keeps your interest. I like the other books I’ve read in this series as well.
Too slow
It was awesome, however, did not like the graphic sex
I loved this story. This was an extension of another series I had read. I loved that the main character was soooo patient and helped the girl to work through her terrors. True love shown through. Steamy sex scenes don’t have to be about going all the way. This was a great heartwarming story.
I am a big Susan Stoker fan!
Another great book by Susan Stoker!
Great read
A great read—uniquely different and plot was amazingly original
A sweet story but not my favorite of Susan Stoker’s. I much prefer Rescuing Rayne or Protecting Fiona.
Different approach, but interesting.
It gave awearness to different phobias. I really enjoyed it
