Saddled with a job she hates and a detestable boss she likes even less, Adeline Reynolds could use a break. It doesn’t look like she’ll get one today. Her service dog, Coco, is alerting her she’s about to have an epileptic seizure—and her frustrated blind date has left her to deal on her own. Enter firefighter Dean Christopherson, who escorts her to the nearby fire station, where she can suffer … suffer through her ordeal safe from injury and prying eyes.
Dean—known as “Crash” to his friends—didn’t expect to find The One in a diner during his lunch break, but he’s blindsided by the beautiful, brave Adeline. She brings out his every protective instinct—along with the carnal ones. As they get to know each other, Dean’s feelings for Adeline grow fast, as does his irritation with her boss, whose behavior is suspicious at best.
As much as he wants to protect Adeline from the world, Crash has to tread carefully. His overprotectiveness could push her away…and leave her vulnerable to a man whose obsession has reached the boiling point.

This is the 7th book in Susan Stoker’s Badge of Honor series. This book is about Dean (Crash) and Adeline. Susan Stoker always writes about real issues. In this story she has written about multiple personalities and also seizures.
In this story, Dean (Crash) is at a restaurant for lunch when he sees this beautiful woman who walks in…with a man. After a bit, he sees them having an argument and the man gets up and leaves. Dean sees his chance to go meet this woman. She tells him she is about to have a seizure, and he takes care of her right then and there. He takes her to a safe place and watches over her.
The story progresses from there and it is written so perfectly. It is well written with so much information about seizures. I learned a few things (like I always do when reading the books).
This story has all of the parts we love and expect in a Susan Stoker story. I just adored this story and the drama that ensues.
I just finished Shelter for Adeline and I was blown away. There was so much in the book that it is hard to put into words. I feel like this book had everything – Love, danger, friendship, dealing and overcoming adversity.
I really liked Dean in this book. I loved his protectiveness and take charge attitude when he dealt with Adeline. I liked that he wasn’t over aggressive but he was demanding in the way to showed her that she doesn’t have to do this alone. She never has to wonder if someone has her back. I also liked that he understood that trust had to be earned and he was going to do everything in his power to show her.
I liked the character of Adeline. I liked her sassiness and assertiveness but also the times when she showed her vulnerabilities. I felt like I watched her grow as a character when she started getting more comfortable with Dean and letting him in.
The part I really didn’t like in this book but yet it was told in a way that it was supposed to make you feel uncomfortable was the restaurant scene. I personally don’t have a disability and having to read that and realize that there are people who go through that every day was heartbreaking. It was also very much of an eye-opener for me.
Another character I really liked was Chief. He was the quiet, stoic but yet a very protective friend. He was there when she needed him and also when she didn’t know he was there. I loved what he did for her in the end with her job.
A fabulous addition to the Badge of Honor series. Shelter for Adeline is a delightful romance with just enough suspense to get your heart racing. I love the fact that the characters are diverse and well developed, each with flaws that make them all too human. I also like how the story incorporates characters that have issues that, while said issues affects them, it doesn’t define them. Strong characters and story line make this a definite recommended read from me.
In SFA you have Adeline ,who has epilepsy, and Crash , aka Dean. He meets her after her blind date leaves her in a diner right before she’s about to have a seizure. Thankfully he’s a firefighter with medical training and is able to take her to a safe place before it hits! For Crash, it’s love at first sight! I loved how in this story the characters took things at a slower pace, getting to know each other, learn their quirks and personalities before taking things to the next level. There’s plenty of heat throughout the story with looks, touches, and comments they make that builds up to an extremely steamy coming together! Loved how the villain in the story is developed and how things are built up through the story for that characters reasons for doing whats done. And at the end……Chief…wow. Glad he’s next in line because I can’t wait to read what he gets into!! Another winner for Susan Stoker!
Adeline Reynolds hates her job and her boss even more. Sitting in a diner with a blind date that is going downhill fast, her service dog alerts her she is about to have a seizure.
Dean “Crash” Christopherson is on his lunch break at the same diner. He is blindsided by Adeline’s beauty, and bravery. Noticing something is off he goes to her and helps her.
The beauty of meeting “the one” for the first time.
One of the best first dates ever.
An alpha with a tender side.
A heroine trying to live as close to a normal life as she can.
An attraction that is undeniable.
It’s no secret I am a fan of Susan Stoker but she keeps putting out consistently good reads and this is just another one.
Great characters, good flow, enjoyed the dynamic between the H/h. Secondary characters were interesting and didn’t distract.
