Saddled with a job she hates and a detestable boss she likes even less, Adeline Reynolds could use a break. It doesn’t look like she’ll get one today. Her service dog, Coco, is alerting her she’s about to have an epileptic seizure—and her frustrated blind date has left her to deal on her own. Enter firefighter Dean Christopherson, who escorts her to the nearby fire station, where she can suffer … suffer through her ordeal safe from injury and prying eyes.
Dean—known as “Crash” to his friends—didn’t expect to find The One in a diner during his lunch break, but he’s blindsided by the beautiful, brave Adeline. She brings out his every protective instinct—along with the carnal ones. As they get to know each other, Dean’s feelings for Adeline grow fast, as does his irritation with her boss, whose behavior is suspicious at best.
As much as he wants to protect Adeline from the world, Crash has to tread carefully. His overprotectiveness could push her away…and leave her vulnerable to a man whose obsession has reached the boiling point.

I love all Susan Stoker’s books. But be warned. They’re like potato chips…you can’t stop at just one. 🙂
I love this entire series and the personal obstacles that people overcome and lovers don’t see as a problem.
Another flawed couple fighting prejudice and judgment in SS’s series of strong characters fighting battles on more than one front.
Adeline suffers from seizures which makes finding someone to date surprisingly hard. Despite her beauty, inside and out, men see one thing only and that’s her epilepsy.
I adored Coco and how Crash saw past Adelines epilepsy to the adorably strong yet vulnerable woman inside.
In typical fashion their journey wasn’t easy, with Crash demonstrating his alpha male take over her life tendencies and Adeline pushing back as she absolutely had to…
Another adorable story in this series
A bad blind date forces Adeline Reynolds to put her trust in a stranger. That trust is not misplaced and with that gift of trust Dean “Crash” Christopherson is a goner. Having lived with epilepsy all of her life, Adeline has learned to cope with everyday circumstances. Things Scott measurably easier when her dog Coco alerted to impending seizures. Every protective instinct Dean has is screaming out for him to keep Adeline and Coco safe and happy. If it wasn’t for her joke of a boss, Adeline’s life with Dean in it is darn near perfect.
“Shelter for Adeline” is the seventh book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series and I have loved every book and this one is no exception. Adeline Reynolds could really use a break, not only does she have to have a service dog to warn her that she is about to have an epileptic seizure but she also has a creepy boss. Adeline is on a lunch date when her dog, Coco alerts and her date hits the road, leaving her to deal with it on her own. This is how sexy firefighter Dean “Crash” Christopherson meets Adeline and he quickly gets her to a safe place until the seizure has passed. Crash is drawn to her in a way he never expected and wants to get to know the beautiful woman better. As time passes and they get to know one another, Crash realizes that there is something seriously wrong with her boss and he will do everything in his power to protect her.
Five “In sickness and in health” stars for this one!!
He is a firefighter and a paramedic when he sees her and how distraught she is he comes to her aid and thus begins their relationship she has a boss who wont take no for an answer with the help of his firefighter brothers he is able. to get there in time to rescue her they have sizzling romance He is there for her to have her surgery for her seizures they get married and have a happy ending
Loved the characters dean and Adeline. They each had their issues and things to work on but loved each other enough to be there for one another and work things out together. He is a firefighter paramedic and she works in marketing and has an epileptic disorder and service dog. They are instantly connected and can’t seem to spend enough time in each other’s company. Loved the dog coco. My one dogs name is coco so I am partial. Lol but live his concern and live for Adeline and how he can recognize a threat or who is part of their pack like dean or chief. Can’t wait for the next book. And I’m looking forward to Penelope’s story too.
If you have not read a Susan Stoker book before, you need to. Each book is individual and you do not need to read in order. However, you will want to.
A very lovely story about trust, love, independence and learning to be a part of a team when you were on your own for your while life. Dean and Adeline are very much ment to be together – their growing and glowing relationship is sometimes a little oder the top but you can deep the chemistry between the two of them in every sentence.
Another winner. I didn’t think much of this series to begin with but it has gotten better and better as it has gone on. Dean & Adeline make a terrific couple.
Erin Mallon did another fabulous job narrating.
Wow
Dean “Crash” Chrisiopherson listed to Beth. He was having lunch with Hayden across from the station when he met Adeline. She and her service dog “Coco” were in a first date lunch when she was warned of a upcoming seizure and he says walked out, and Dean stepped up. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
5 stars
Adeline has had a rough day, she hates her boss but loves her job, and she’s on a blind date when her dog warns her she’s about to have a seizure. He dates leaves and she rushes to find a safe clean place to get to. Dean “ Crash “ is a firefighter and is on his lunch break. He notices the woman and asks if he can help. He takes her across the street to his station and lets her ride out the seizure. Afterwards Crash asks to take her out. They slowly start dating and the flames of their attraction just about burn them. Adeline is having trouble with her boss and Crash is becoming more and more protective and it might just drive Adeline away.
I loved this story. It has action, humor, and romance. Crash is a dirty talking firefighter and Adeline is just trying to get back to living after being afraid of going out because of her epilepsy.
This is a great story from Susan. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I love reading stories about strong women and their men.
What a lovely addition to this series. Taking a chance and winning big. Such a wonderful story for Adeline and Dean. And so wonderful to see bits and pieces of all their friends too. Looking forward to the next one.
Another fabulous story
This story about Dean and Adeline, hit close to home for me purely because my son suffers with epilepsy and the few seizures he’s had definitely make life difficult. To contemplate Adeline having more than one seizure a day made my heart bled for her Thankfully Dean showed her that there are still kind and compassionate people out there and that he still saw her for who she was, not what disability she had
I’m looking forward to Chief’s story next as I think it’s going to break my heart even more
Every time I read or listen to a Susan Stoker story, my wallet weeps. Well. How can I not get a hold of her books, both in e-book format and audio?
This one, the story of Crash and Adeline, was another home-run for me, making me fall in love with another of her Alpha men and their women. Especially knowing that as usual, Susan Stoker brings another topic and center, and that is epilepsy.
Every time this author shines a light on a particular subject, she makes it easier for us, her readers, to appreciate and understand life’s little quirks and nuances. This time, she teaches us how we can help when we see someone having epileptic seizures, and what we can do to help them be as comfortable as they can during the event.
She also tells us to respect service or guide dogs. Yes, they may be cute as heck, but they are there for a purpose, and that is to save their human’s life. If we see someone with a service dog, let them be. Or, if we see someone distracting a service dog–let us do our part in educating them of the folly of doing so.
Erin Mallon did a great job narrating Shelter for Adeline, and am eager to start her next narration of Sophie’s story.
This is one of my faves, I’ve reread a few times.
Another winner and tear jerker from this author. It gave me a massive dose of the feels, good and sad. Heart stopping moments in the final chapters too, made me reader faster…hurry up and get there I’m yelling at my kindle lol
This is part of a series, but stand alone..just a revisit with favourite characters that will make you want to go back and read their stories if you haven’t already.
The story line was solid and the characters well developed making for a fantastic read. I think this one is my favourite so far…until the next one.
Romance mixed with men in uniform! I love this author snd she hasn’t disappointed me yet.
Disappointing compared to other books in the series.
Great read. Susan’s heroines are unique and strong of characters. Her heroes are alpha and sexy. Love this series.
