From Award-Winning Author, MaryLu Tyndall, comes an exciting Medieval Romance surrounding the Spear of Destiny!
Another novel knocked out of the literary ballpark by author MaryLuTyndall! ~ Michelle Griep, author of THE CAPTIVE HEART and BRENTWOOD’S WARD
Alexia D’Clere didn’t ask to be Protector of the Spear, but after her dying mother gave her the tiny metal object and made her promise to … metal object and made her promise to keep it safe, she had no choice. Orphaned at age eight, she began to take over the running of her parent’s castle with the help of a trusted steward. Yet, when a plot to murder her was revealed, a friar whisked her away to live hidden in the forest. There, she learned to shoot expertly with bow and arrow and hone her skills to see into the spirit realm.
Now, at eighteen, Alexia continues to keep the Spear protected, provide meat for the starving village, while secretly caring for her ill sister who still lives in the castle. With Alexia’s powers of spiritual discernment and her skill as an archer, she is no match for those who come for the spear. That is until she meets Ronar LePeine, one of the King’s elite guard.
Ronar desires nothing more than to do his duty to God and King and pay penance for past sins. Yet a forest sprite with red, flaming hair blocks his every move, all the while enchanting him like no other. Something evil lurks at Castle Luxley, and both Ronar and Alexia are soon thrust into the middle of a spiritual battle which will not only test their very beliefs, but put them both in mortal danger.

I could not put this down. Recommend this to everyone.
A fascinating “Robin Hood” like story with a twist. An enthralling tale with wonderful Scriptural emphasis. I absolutely could not put the book down until I got to the end. Thank you for sharing this delightful and inspirational story.
This is the first book I’ve read by MaryLu Tyndall and it was quite enjoyable. I’ll be sure to follow this series (Protectors of the Spear) as well as go through her backlist of books to enjoy the action-filled, plot-driven stories filled with adventure. This first book in the series combines fluid writing, plenty of medieval-style combat, flawed yet beautiful characters, power of faith and the realm of the unseen supernatural to weave a striking tale of good overcoming evil.
Alexia, the self-exiled and hidden mistress of the manor whom everyone believes is dead, is an expert archer with a gift of discernment. Ronar is a King’s Guard tasked with the unpleasant duty of escorting a bishop to the manor on an errand for the king. They find themselves caught in a dark and ominous web of lies, betrayal, and deceit as evil descends further into Alexia’s former home and they try to fight it together. Though they’re both seasoned and tough warriors, their romance is quite sweet and tender and Ronar’s vulnerability is especially heart-wrenching. There are, of course, the typical medieval characters, like corrupt nobles and clergymen as well as the righteous and loyal clergymen and knights, and holy relics that are being sought after. I can’t wait to read the next in the series to find out what happens!
If you enjoy historical romance with a bit of supernatural, you will enjoy this book. I received the book from the author/publisher via Interviews and Reviews and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Having won She Walks in Love, the second book in Protectors of the Spear series by MaryLu Tyndall, I got She Walks in Power to read first. So glad I did. I love stories about the Middle Ages with knights and ladies and this one did not disappoint. With the thread of faith in God throughout the book and the importance of knowing God’s Word for oneself, the story is not only exciting but inspiring. Readers are exposed to the spiritual forces of light vs. darkness. Wonderful characters–good and bad are portrayed well. Sword fights and burning at the stake, intrigue and lies, and romance too. What more could lovers of medieval historical romance ask for! I can’t wait to dig into the second book.
Tyndall is a masterful storyteller. She Walks in Power will keep you up late reading!
It had a warped view of the Church. Too bad, otherwise it was an interesting story.
Poorly written. Can’t hold interest
Power is an understatement!
MaryLu Tyndall has woven yet another tale that grabs you from the start and keeps you reading until the end. I cannot get over how much I enjoyed this story. Medieval knights, maidens, villages….throw in an evil warlock and you have the makings of a thrilling ride. This story has characters that are so real, you will find yourself totally mesmerized by them. You can’t help but cheer them on…..hoping that all will work out for them.
Ronar, a great knight to be sure and Alexia, the feisty lady that keeps him guessing, will have you smiling from ear to ear. I truly adore them. And don’t get me started on Ronar’s fellow knights, Jarin and Damien….and the friar!
I will say no more, for I do not wish to spoil ANY of this fantastic story for other readers.
A fascinating blend of adventure, romance, and spiritual warfare.
My rating is 4.5 stars
She Walks in Power is a fascinating blend of adventure, romance, and spiritual warfare with a Robin Hood flair.
As Protector of the Spear, Alexia has honed her archery skills to the point she is able to shoot and pretty much never miss. Although she has been trained well in the Scriptures and has the gift of discerning of spirits, when her emotions control her, she becomes blind to things that she should have seen. Unfortunately for her, though fortunately for us so we have an interesting story, her emotions do lead her more than they should and she manages to make a few mistakes with far-reaching consequences.
Ronar is very interesting. The sins of his youth and the guilt he carries as a result lead him to live a life of seeking atonement. He has even named his horse Penance, most likely as a constant reminder of his life’s aim. He is confounded when he meets Alexia, having never met anyone quite like her. He is appalled when he learns that Alexia actually knows Scripture. The things that she quotes and believes have him calling her a heretic. I love how he was so torn between doing his duty for the king and protecting Alexia.
There are mysteries surrounding both these characters and as Ronar seeks the very spear Alexia is entrusted to protect, I was kept guessing and was surprised at the revelations made. There were some twists and I didn’t expect the story to end as it did and yet in reflecting back, it was better than my imagined ending.
Spiritual truths season this story and the realities of spiritual warfare are portrayed in a dramatic way. Not in a scary Frank Peretti way, though. Whew!
The ending was complete enough to be satisfying and yet had plenty of hints that there is more to come. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series which will release soon, probably July from what I have heard.
I won’t say the story was perfect. A few things were improbable and one even quite impossible. However, this is fiction intended for enjoyment and I did very much enjoy it very much!
If you like high adventure in your stories, with sword fights, dramatic escapes, and characters seeking after God, this is a must-read.
