The books in this epic saga can be read as stand-alone stories, or you can experience all the love, thrills, and exploits of the whole series from beginning to end. It’s up to you. ENJOY! Sure, it was hotter than hell, drier than a popcorn fart, and the wind blew all the time, but it was home. Not just a place on the map, but in her heart where it really mattered.Coming back to West Texas for … back to West Texas for Elle Burntwing was a mixed bag of tricks. Sure, it was where she’d grown up, where she’d had her first beer, her first kiss, rode her first horse, and raised all kinds of hell everywhere in between…but it was also where her family had tragically and with no explanation been taken from her.
Stepping back on the sandy soil of home, she not only had to get her client outta hot water but also keep herself from falling in love.
Family meant everything. It was all he’d ever known, and as the oldest son of an oldest son and a Guardsman, Gage took his job as Protector very seriously, even though his four younger brothers knew every one of his buttons to push and laughed as they did it.
Seeing her walking into the Courthouse changed everything. With her in his arms, he saw forever. All he had to do was slay the Fanatical Feathered Freak and convince the One the Universe made for him that he wasn’t an arrogant, know-it-all Dragon. Piece of cake, right?
With more on the line than his love life and the scales covering his backside, Gage MacAllen is about to learn the true meaning of ‘Destiny will always find a way’.
Can he thaw out in time to join the battle?
Will she save the day without him?
Will the Fanatical Feathered Freak finally be brought to justice?
And…who in all that’s holy is the Dragon trapped in the ice?
Only the Great Creator and the Universe know the answers, and as usual, neither one is talking. So, Take a load off, Grab a cold one, and Get ready for one Helluva story.
Fate Will Not be Denied, but if you happen to be a Gambler, the safe bets always on a Dragon and his Mate.>

Julia Mills is simply the best at what she does! highly recommend all her books! her dragons are to die for! <3 Loved this one!
“Fire to destroy. Water to cleanse. Love to create. The Blessing to sustain.” Words the Rain Bird and
the Bringer of Fire will learn to live by.
Elle had left Texas after a great loss and hoped to not return. That is until she was needed to defend the son of a politician who was in some deep trouble. Returning home has Elle feeling things she doesn’t totally understand but it makes her feel like it is where she needs to be.
Gage is the eldest son of the MacAllen clan and has been drawn to the site of an accident on their land where he feels great evil lurking. When he excepts a dinner invite from an old friend, he meets the woman who is destined to be his mate.
This book has will draw you in and you will feel like you are part of the fight between good and evil. I highly recommend this and the whole Dragon Guard series to all lovers of PNR.
5 plus stars. I laughed so much reading this it became a problem.
Ms Mills has once again presented us with a brilliantly written and engrossing tale with some of the best humour she has produced in ages.
Not only do we have likeable characters and a brilliantly entertaining plot but this has the feel of some of Ms Mills earlier more solid stories.
I love the colloquial humour in this book. – “Why again are you takin’ me to the middle of the desert when it’s hotter than two rats screwin’ in a wool sock?” ALSO “Watch out for that Tree” the George of the Jungle theme tune was brilliant.
I just wish Joseph had gotten jail time.
Entwined into part of this story is another of our tortured and imprisoned Berserker dragons being found but that will definitely be another story.
This is my honest review of this book kindly given to me but read through Kindle Unlimited.
Always great
As with every book she writes, I end up loving the lead man, drooling over his friends and head over heels with the story… But this time there is also a mystery… Who is the berserker and when will his book be ready.
Another wonderful installment of Julia’s Guardsmen series!
Excellent characters and an amazing story. Ell and Gage definitely made me keep reading and not put my book down. Love the MacAllen clan and can’t wait for more of their books.
Hold on to your hats because this is one heck of an awesome ride. The action starts from the beginning and never lets up until the fabulous end. Fast paced, steamy, funny, great characters in a great world. Love the Dragon Guard! Fate will not be denied!
I don;t know how she does it but she always makes me laugh during humorous moments, cry at other and wish I had a dragon of my own. I think I have followed Ms. Mills since she first wrote the Guardian series.
In this episode we have a lawyer who also happens to be one of the last Rain Birds. She tragically lost her parents and sister, I felt that loss as I just lost my brother to a tragic wreck as well. I’m or good at remembering names these days but I could really relate to thee main female character. I do remember that it was Owen’s son who is both a dragon and a wolf, their tribe has been on that land for centuries. His son is drawn to the edge of their property and feels the evil and must investigate what happened their. it happens to be where the lawyer’ family died.
There is so much more to this story but I don’t want to spoil it for others just know that i voluntarily read an advance copy and no I haven’t been compensated in any way. this will be on my wish list and hopefully I can ad[t to my library soon.
I have read every single book by this author and I love them all. This book however showed me suspense, action, love, commitment, and strength. I have to say this was the best book by far from this author.
Totally worth grabbing…
** spoiler alert ** After the death of her family, Elle struggles with understanding where her life is supposed to go. Gage is a gentleman and a family man, but one look at Elle and he knows she is supposed to be his. Together they must defeat an enemy. Will Elle accept what fate has brought her? Will Gage be able to give her the family she has missed?
Loved how these two were strong, but complimented each other instead of overpowering. I loved how Elle was determined to do what it took to keep those around her safe and avenge those that she lost! Gage definitely proved he wasn’t just some jerk when he was determined to get to know all of her, not just her body! Great read!
So, this my first book on the MacAllen clan and I am in absolute love. You ave so much action and drama throughout this story. There were times that just made me laugh out loud. I loved Elle and her take no prisoners attitude. She is fun, feisty, full of energy, and has a spark that doesn’t stop. Gage is this super strong, caring, intelligent and protective alpha male that just has to give his all. I loved how it ends and now I have to go back and start reading them from the beginning. This is definitely worth reading and doesn’t disappoint. I voluntarily review an advanced reader copy of this book.
Another fun installment of the Dragon Guard series, this is the second installment of the MacAllen branch (from Save a Horse, Ride a Dragon). Elle and Gage are great characters with comic relief provided by Gage’s brothers and Elle’s best friend. This story moves along at a good pace and has a twist I didn’t see coming.
Excellent characters and storylines. I’m lovin’ the heck outta the MacAllen Clan brothers and their inner dragons/wolves.
Pure emotional upheaval from the very beginning.
The universe in all its wisdom has decided that Eleanor Burntwing, a powerful Rain Bird shifter (the last of her kind) and Gage MacAllen, a Dragon/Alpha Wolf shifter are mates….. and we know by now….”Fate Will Not Be Denied”…… but there’s something else at play here. Something dark and evil is hiding in the desert. It’s waiting at the very spot where Elle’s lost her family in a car accident. ( but was it?)
And why is Gage so drawn there and what’s got his dragon and wolf so stirred up about?
Oh boy, things are about to get real for the MacAllen clan and the last living Burntwing.
This one grabbed me from the beginning. All I could do was hold on to my cowboy hat!
I adore the MacAllen clan. Give MacAllen boys, mom, and dad all live in the land that’s been in their family for several generations. They all live out in the deserts of Texas, but when fate decides it’s time for one of those Dragon boys to find his mate…. well fate won’t be denied.
This is such a fun read. The MacAllen characters are a fun bunch who are like typical brothers who like to poke at each now then. Ms. Mills has come up with 2 new beautiful but deadly paranormal creatures in this book. I like that this author is not afraid to make up creatures and is descriptive enough that I can easily visualize then.
If you like an easy, fun read and some steamy times with a Dragon shifting cowboy then this book is the one. It’ll give you a smile and an HEA.
Elle (Eleanor) Burntwings, a lawyer and the last of her kind – a powerful Rain Bird shifter. She is returning home after an absence due to the unnatural deaths of her family. She has been sent to get a spoiled rich kid (whose parents knew Elle’s parents and asked for her) out of charges on a drunk driving/drug charges. She also has a surprise waiting.
Gage MacAllen is a Dragon/Alpha Wolf shifter who is investigating an ancient evil on the border of his land on the same spot Elle’s family was killed. Unbeknownst to Gage he is going to meet his mate who happens to be a sassy and independent woman.
I loved this exciting, edge-of-your-seat, action packed, mystical, humorous and sexy romance. Exceptional story line and characters. Highly recommend.
