An emotionally turbulent read that has readers experiencing a whole range of emotions tied to a second chance romance. The characters are strong, captivating and readers can’t help but fall for them and their situation as Molly and Jase to deal with their attraction. Molly’s not sure she can open her heart again after the devastation of what happened and Jase isn’t sure that he can survive remaining close to her if she can’t which keeps emotions running high throughout this heart rending romance.
The fast paced plot takes the suspense of this romance even further as it adds adrenaline pumping, hair raising danger from someone who believes that Molly is responsible for her ex-husbands debts, pulling Jase and his friends together in order to protect her. Some surprising twists keeps reader on their toes and ensures that readers can’t put the story down until they have read every last word of this captivating romance.
4.25 stars– SHATTERED VOWS is the third instalment in Kaylea Cross’ contemporary, adult CRIMSON POINT romantic suspense series focusing on the people of Crimson Point, Oregon, and a group of former Special Forces soldiers. This is ER nurse Molly Boyd, and thirty-four year old, former Special Forces soldier Sergeant Jase Weaver’s story line. SHATTERED VOWS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is an on-going premise throughout.
NOTE: SHATTERED VOWS contains scenes of graphic violence that may not be suitable for more sensitive readers.
If you have not read the previous instalments, there may be some spoilers in my reviews.
Told from several third person perspectives including Molly and Jase SHATTERED VOWS follows the friends to lovers relationship between ER nurse Molly Boyd, and thirty -four year old, former Special Forces soldier Sergeant Jase Weaver. Molly’s husband Carter Boyd’s life spiralled out of control following an IED attack that left him with a traumatic brain injury. Weeks after Carter’s death Molly discovers her late husband’s past has come seeking retribution, retribution Molly is unable to pay. For years Jase Weaver has stayed on the sidelines watching the woman he loves marry his best friend, a friend whose injury destroyed them all. With a second chance to make things right, Jase starts a slow seduction of the woman he loves but a seduction that is stopped before it begins. What ensues is the building romance between Molly and Jase, and the fall-out as Molly is targeted by her late-husband’s past.
Jase Weaver has been in love with his best friend’s wife from the first time they met but Molly fell in love with someone else. Molly’s life was never the same following the IED attack that damaged her husband beyond repair, damages that would destroy Carter’s life.
The relationship between Molly and Jase is a best friend’s wife to lovers romance that focuses on heart break, grief, and the fall-out of war. Molly and Jase struggled with the guilt of moving on while the man they once loved was no longer alive. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are reintroduced to Sierra and Beckett (Fractured Honor #1), Noah and Poppy (Buried Lies #2), as well as the return of Royal Marine Aidan MacIntyre; and Tiana Fitzgerald. Tiana and Aidan’s story line is next in Rocky Ground.
The world building continues to focus on the friendships and relationships of the former Special Forces soldiers: their struggle to move forward as the ghosts from the past continue to haunt their days and nights.
SHATTERED VOWS is a story of grief and loss, friendships and love, struggle and battling demons from the past. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the characters are colourful, charismatic and spirited; the romance is captivating and seductive. SHATTERED VOWS is a sexy, sensitive and edgy story of second chances and HEA.
I just loved this romantic suspense by Kayleae Cross. Shattered Vows is book 3 in her Crimson Point series about army vets making new lives in coastal Oregon.
Jase Weaver has loved Molly Boyd forever, had stood by watching as his best friend Carter had married her and then nearly destroyed her when he’d descended in mental instability. Carter and Molly were divorced when he died in a car accident at the end of book 2. Molly had just learned she was pregnant with his child.
Jase has always been there for Molly. Now, with Carter gone, he steps up, hoping now he has a chance. There are bad guys lurking around to extract no ey from a debt she never knew about and their happiness is in doubt. They have to work for their HEA.
Kaylea Cross is one of my favorite authors. She never disappoints.
SHATTERED VOWS is book three in the Crimson Point series. It’s a standalone so feel free to jump in here if you haven’t read the first few books!
Molly Boyd was in the middle of a divorce from her husband, Carter, when he died suddenly. Now, she’s a pregnant widow in the small town of Crimson Point. But she has good friends and she also has Jase Weaver, Carter’s best friend. Jase has been quietly in love with Molly for years, even before her and Carter got married. But he stood by his best friend and now he’ll stand by Molly as she navigates motherhood. But when a threat from Carter’s past puts Molly in danger, Jase will do whatever he needs to protect her.
There’s a suspenseful element that spices up the plot but more than that, this is a really sweet love story. I actually haven’t read the first two books (hangs head in shame) so if Molly, Jase and Carter were mentioned before, I’m not sure. All I know is in this book, I loved Jase and Molly together regardless of whether or not it would be considered “forbidden” to be in a relationship with your best friend’s ex-wife. Molly was great, she was smart and tough, she was loyal and sassy. But for me, Jase made the whole book. Oh, Jase! I may have she’d a few tears for him and his unrequited feelings for Molly. He was a super sweet teddy bear wrapped in a hot guy’s body! Jase truly did everything he could to take care of Molly and her baby…SWOON!
Overall, this one was a slow burn romance between a hot ex soldier and a strong, single pregnant widow. Expect a sweet, sexy story with just enough tension to keep you on the edge. Told from various POVs with a delightfully happy ever after. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
This is a second book that I read from the series and I must say that I didn’t enjoy it like I did the previous. It didn’t come even close for me to love it. Jase is in love with his best friend wife. After a tragic death, Jase can’t keep his feelings in check anymore. Molly is after divorce and tragic death of his ex-husband left alone and pregnant. Her strength is her friends, especially Jase. And suddenly she is starting to feel things for Jase that she didn’t before and after kiss they share they keep distance. That fall really hard on both of them especially because Molly’s life is in danger because of her late husband debt. For me, the story is just a little bit dark and depressing half of it is about mourning from both Jase and Molly, then there is a lot of Jase yearning for Molly. And when the things go better another tragedy happens. I didn’t feel any connection with both of them, but I was happy for their HEA. The author has already introduced us to new future couple and ii hope that it will be great to read.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
Since I did read this previous ones in this no way could I leave this one out. This one is focused on Molly and Jase with them sweeping you up leaving not a speck behind. This will also pull on adrenaline juice to get it flowing as the action gets heightened. You have elements that have you gunning for the jerk that is in here also. This one had me tied up at times also but it is one that you are let go of until the last page.
Shattered Vows is the long awaited (for me) story of Molly and Jase. The last we saw of these two was after the death of Molly’s ex-husband, Carter, and finding out that she was pregnant. We know going in that Jase has been in love with Molly from the moment they both met, but Carter was the one that go to her first. As much as my heart broke for all the things that Molly had endured, I think it was Jase I felt more for. To see the happiness that Molly and Carter had shared for years, being the best man at the wedding and then to witness the effect of Carter’s traumatic brain injury must have been excruciating for Jase. Even with Molly free, he knew he couldn’t go there with her so he remained as the stoic friend, doing whatever he could to make life easy for Molly and her unborn baby. But things start changing for both of them. Molly is starting to see Jase in a different light and this scares her and she runs. With Jase, his feelings were increasing so much that he took a chance and told Molly his feelings and was rejected. Oh my heart, this was hard for me to see. On top of all this, some of Carter’s past erratic behavior is coming out and placing Molly in danger. The whole team is there for Molly and trying to keep her safe.
The suspense portion definitely kept me on my toes, seeing the evil and desperation of some people was tough. But overall, it was the love story between Jase and Molly that made this book for me. There were many heartbreaking moments, for both characters, but they both also showed such strength and they finally fought for each other. There were some that did not appreciate the scenes of Molly and Jase reminiscing about Carter, but I actually really appreciated it. The old Carter meant so much to them both and tried to remember the good times and not the bad. And that epilogue was just beautiful! A wonderful story and I can not wait for the next installment.
Third in the Crimson Point series and although you could technically read this without having read the previous two books, I’d highly recommend it. As in her previous series, the author has a tendency of peppering pieces of future couples’ stories into previous books in the series. I definitely feel that some of these insights help “set the scene/tone” and give some background – this is particularly true in this case as we’ve been getting bits and pieces of Molly and Jase’s story since book #1.
Jase was incredibly protective and loyal. It was quite endearing and swoon-worthy and although we’d gotten to know him in the previous books, we obviously get to know him better in his own book – what a great character. Molly was a strong, independent woman dealing with a truly tragic situation involving her ex-husband. She was dealt a rough hand, but kept moving forward. She was a bit wishy-washy at times, but given what she’d been through, it was understandable.
As always I like that Cross deals with sensitive/timely issues like PTSD head-on in her books and doesn’t marginalize the issue or simply use it as a plot device. She handled the subject respectfully and managed to convey the impact it can have on not only the victims themselves, but their friends and loved ones.
*Advance copy provided by the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.*
Molly and Jase have been friends for years. Jase and Carter, Molly’s husband, were best friends and team members in the military. But a career ending injury for Carter changed everything. Things changed again when Carter was killed in a car accident. Molly is not sure how she’s going to make it and Jase is determined to be there to help her through whatever she needs. Neither expected the danger that came from a part of Carter’s life that no one knew anything about.
This was definitely a new twist to a romance. A pregnant widow and her deceased ex-husband’s best friend. Their relationship is not without its road blocks. Molly certainly plays the hot and cold widow to a T.
It’s an interesting dance. 5 stars!!
Molly and Jase find a way to heal from the past and a pathway together with a future in this Crimson Point book 3. A page turning story with good characters and story line.
Ebook from Netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
I really don’t know where to start with this review. I have mixed emotions about this story. I really loved to hate it is how I feel. I loved the story but some of the characters really worked my nerves and had me screaming at my kindle because I wanted them to go away because they didn’t deserve what they were getting.
Molly was married to Carter and he was a real arsehole who treated her wrong. He got her mixed up in some things and she needed help and their best friend Jase came to the rescue. Only Jase has always loved Molly and watched his best friend marry her and give her the family she always wanted. But Carter got himself into some things and died which left Molly all alone.
Jase knew what he had to do and that was step up and be there for Molly no matter what. His only issue that he had was whether or not he should tell her his true feelings. When he finally does things go okay but Molly acted like a BIATCH and that bothered me because Jase was willing to take care of her and the baby she was carrying even though it wasn’t his.
Like I said I loved to hate this story but I loved me some Jase and we need more men like Jase in the world!
Love is never easy…
I knew Molly and Jase’s relationship was going to be a messy one to resolve but I had no idea how complicated things were going to get! Jase had loved Molly since the first time they met. He stayed in the background, standing up for his best friend who married the woman he himself wanted. When circumstances changed, Jase thought now might be his time…
When timing is everything, these two just could not catch a break! Or get on the same page. Guilt was a huge issue, understandably, and a whole host of other things worked to keep them apart. The push and pull was one thing that never changed as they each tried to reconcile their feelings with the other and a ghost…. Misunderstandings persisted and outside forces caused havoc making this a roller coaster for their hearts. And mine.
If you are looking for lots of angst, danger and suspense with your romance than this story will tick all the boxes. Marry that with friends and family that support, cajole and poke when needed, then this story has it all!
*I happily reviewed this book
**Thank you to NetGalley
Been anxiously waiting for this book since I finished Buried Lies. This series really shouldn’t be read as stand alone, the characters intertwine, and the story continues into the next book.
This book tore me up, I was all sorts of a snotty mess. But the feels balanced out for me. The sadness of the PTSD and brain injury in our military is just shocking. Kaylea really made it understandable.
You must read this series! So WONDERFUL!!
Shattered Vows by Kaylea Cross is the third book in the Crimson Point series, but the first I read. I did not find myself lost at any point and I am excited to go back and read them. When I read the blurb for this book, I was very excited to read it! An ex’s best friend who has always loved the wife of his best friend and now she may be in danger. What does he do? Step in to keep her safe of course!
This story was a forbidden second chance romance. Jase Weaver has always loved Molly Boyd, but she married another man. Now she needs his help and he will do anything to keep her safe. I absolutely love Jase, he was protective, patient and caring. Molly had dealt with so much and though she wanted to move forward, she found it hard at times. Could this be both their second chance at love?
Shattered Vows by Kaylea Cross was an emotional and touching second chance romance. The characters had a great connection, but so much history. Their journey was not an easy one, but their love was strong.
Happy reading!
Molly was in danger from the very first opening of Chapter One. What surprised me was where the immediate danger was coming from. What a great way to start a book. And the emotional intensity continued because let’s face it, Jase had an unrequited love for Molly, for years. Add to that, the physical danger starts to ramp up and it comes from a place that Molly would never have suspected. But that danger is absolutely real and potentially vicious. Because this person (a.k.a. John) is extremely violent and we see example after example of what he does to people who cross him. *Shiver*
Molly is a really good main character and has a good cast of people who love and support her. Included in that group is her BFF’s, Sierra & Poppy. There is also some good men in her group of friends that both Molly and Jase share. Men who were fellow military brothers who share a really tight bond.
Jase makes for the perfect book boyfriend. He’s sweet, protective and loyal to his friends. And he has some mad skills; some from the military, some in accounting, some in restoring a special car. That isn’t even touching on his skill and care as a lover. Yes, there will be some steamy scenes in this book. He is so unbelievably tender with people. Well, at least those who aren’t trying to hurt Molly that is. It didn’t take long before I was definitely Team Jase being with Molly. I just wondered how they were going to get there and how much pain it was going to take.
Some cute, funny scenes were added by a little girl named Ella and her passionate love of animals. Walker is one of her neighbors dragging sad faced waddling dog. Ella is totally in love with him and spends all of the time that she can with him. Ella’s single mother, Tiana is fiercely protective of her daughter and she has some good reasons to feel that way. Aiden who also likes to be called Mac shows up in the story as he meets Ella with Walker and is charmed by her. He also butts heads with Tiana who instantly becomes a fierce Mama Bear when she spots them together. I do want to read that story also because the times that Aiden did show up in the story he did make me smile with his Scottish brogue and teasing ways. The Excerpt for that book looked pretty good too (Rocky Ground, Crimson Point Series).
I enjoyed the fact that there was a good Epilogue included. I also just have to say that I enjoyed the authors writing style. I will definitely be looking out for other books by this author in the future.
One other thing I wanted to mention may sound a little shallow but I didn’t really care for the choice of the eBook cover. The muscles definitely fit with the described body of Jase but the rest just didn’t seem to fit that well. This guy looks a lot older than I thought Jase was supposed to me and to be honest I didn’t think he was all that great looking. Ouch, sorry about that but that’s one person’s opinion I guess. Still, I don’t regret for one minute reading this book.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
I knew this was going to be a bit of a tumultuous read. Between Survivors Guilt, unrequited love and trying to protect Molly, you know Jase was never going to have it easy.
Molly may appear to some as thinking Jase was 2nd best but she clearly admits to wanting him first before she was dazzled by Carter. But it was clear that whilst they may have loved each other, Carter wasn’t always the perfect hubby. Even before his slide into insanity due to his TBI, Carter seems to have been able to take his wife all too easily for granted.
Molly deserves happiness and her baby deserves a family. One that wants them rather than feeling an obligation to want them. Molly’s own family aren’t exactly going to win any medals either. I’ve always been a proponent of a family is what you make it and Molly seems to be ready to embrace that too. Crimson Point is now her home and no-one, not even Carter, his ghost or his bad decisions are going to chase her away!
Jase and Molly may seem to fall into a relationship quickly but Molly and Carter were apart for a long time before she finally left him and love has it’ own timetable. it won’t arrive when society or small-minded folks, determine the right amount of time has passed.
Looking forward to Mac and Tiana’s story. Come on Mac, do the home country proud – even if you are from Edinburgh and the girl who broke your heart was a Glaswegian like me!
Molly Boyd’s husband, Carter, is dead. He suffered greatly from PTSD and was becoming a danger to her and to himself. As a nurse and wife, she had done everything she could to help him, but it was never enough. Molly is pregnant and Carter never knew that he was going to be a father. Thank goodness for her many friends in Crimson Point, especially Jase Weaver. Jase was Carter’s best friend and along with her many friends has helped Molly through this terrible tragedy. Jase has loved Molly, from afar, and has always had her back and now she needs him more than ever. Something in Carter’s past has brought danger to Molly and her baby and Jase will be there to protect her. Can he keep her safe and protect his heart? Molly is beginning to have “more than friend” feelings for Jase, but does this make her disloyal to Carter? A wonderful continuation of the Crimson Point series where the town takes care of their own and friends become family. Ms. Cross writes a wonderful romantic suspense series making you (especially me) eager for the next book. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Molly is an ER nurse and married to Carter, a former Green Beret, but he came back from a mission with TBI. Their marriage has been going downhill since. She files for divorce but he comes after her. Jase has loved Molly since he meet her, he saw her first but when she laid eyes on Carter, that was it. Now Carter is gone, she’s pregnant, and had debt collectors after her. They want her insurance money but they don’t know how they are going to rule the accident. Jase will do anything to keep her safe and admits his feelings but Molly is scared. She’s been through so much and thinks Jase could turn out like Carter. It takes some time for her to figure out her feelings but she doesn’t want to lose his friendship. She is working and gets threatened by the man wanting the money Carter owed them. Jase comes just in time and chases them. He gets shot after shooting the other two. Can they get him to the hospital in time to save him?
Loved this story. Action, mystery, sex, and a nail biter. There are some parts that may bring a tear to your eye. Romantic and so darn good I hated for it to end.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
* MAY HAVE SOME SPOILERS *
Let’s start off by saying this was a first time read by this author and this was a cute story about a second chance at love again in the mist of tragedy.
The story had a bit of drama, loss, love and healing. The story packed once heck of a surprise and thank god her husbands friend Jase stepped in to protect his friends wife.
Jase and Molly have had a thing for each other but, have been tap dancing around their feelings for years but, when she is in danger Jase and Molly put their excuses aside a give things a go.
I loved Jase in this story he was so sweet and torn over his former best friends wife and struggled with his feelings for some time but, in the end was the perfect match for Molly in every way.I loved how protective her was of her and the lengths he went to keep her safe.
I really enjoyed the sweet romance between the this couple it made you think that fairy tales come true after all.
