Shattered: Rhodes Family Book 1
By Lisa Wood
5 out of 5 stars
I loved reading the book Shattered: Rhodes Family Book 1 by Lisa Wood. It is a story that is romantic and steamy. It had the temperature in the room rising. I loved reading about the characters of Olivia and Gabriel. Olivia is a woman who is intelligent and beautiful. She is also a woman who has left her old life behind. That includes everything that came with it. Then she meets Gabriel. Gabriel is a man who is handsome, charming, and knows how women react to him. He is not the settling down with one-woman type. Then he meets Olivia. There is intense chemistry and attraction between Olivia and Gabriel. Read this book to find out their story. This is a wonderful story that had me hooked from the very beginning. I found myself reading it all in one sitting. I just had to know what happens between Gabriel and Olivia. I grew to care about them with each chapter that I read. The other additional characters introduced are wonderful to read about as well. This is a story that has swoon-worthy scenes. Don’t miss out on an exciting and entertaining book to read. I highly recommend reading it.
This is a book for the over 18’s only due to scenes of an adult nature.
This is the story of Olivia and Gabe. Olivia is a 26 year old graduate from law school who is sure she knows where her life is heading, until she is placed in a predicament where she has to give it all up, move to a new city and find a new job with only the clothes on her back and in two suitcases. Gabe is a senior partner in his father’s law firm with an eye for the ladies and an arrogant, playboy attitude.
We begin with Olivia as she leaves her old life behind to start a new one in the first place she points to on the map. This just happens to be New York City, so she packs her bags, gets in her car and drives there, she is in pain and disbelief, as to what she just walked in on and this is the reason she has to leave.
Next we meet Gabe, he is conducting interviews for a new junior partner for his father’s law firm, he is unimpressed by the candidates so far and after 4 of them, he needs to see how many more he has to deal with. He is unimpressed to find that there are still four more, that is until he sees a beautiful woman waiting to be seen and is completely shocked by the effect she has on him. He eventually makes his way through three more run of the mill candidates and finally calls her in.
It is at this moment that Gabe shakes Olivia’s hand and she is taken aback at the reaction she has to him as well. She is honest, straight forward and a breath of fresh air after all the others he had to put up with today, as she continues with the interview, he realises that his thoughts earlier were correct and that she was the perfect person for the position and so makes her an offer that she can’t refuse, but not something that he should be offering in the first place because his offer is a complete lie, apart from the job.
Gabe has to make a few calls which go over well, although he is seriously risking a lot for her, he can’t help it, as unbelievable as it is to those he speaks to.
What will the future hold for these two complete opposites? Will the lies and secrecy rip them apart or bring them closer together? Only time and experience will tell.
Shattered is the first book in the Rhodes Family series by Lisa Wood. I loved reading this book, its romantic with quite a bit of steamy scenes. The authors writing style made it an easy read that pulls you in from the first page. I loved reading about the characters Olivia and Gabriel. Olivia is running when her world is turned upside down and Gabriel is a playboy whose world changes when he meets Olivia. Can these two overcome everything to give their love a try? Will Olivia’s past come back to haunt her? Absolutely loved this book and could not put it down. Cannot wait for the second book in the series .
Shattered is the first novel in the Rhodes family series and it is amazing. Lisa Wood knows how to right a break up story and turn it into a HEA. Everyone goes through break ups and how the main female character, Olivia, handles it is not short of amazing. Not only will you fall in love with the main characters, Olivia and Gaberial, but you will meet some supporting characters. I recommend this novel for anyone who loves a HEA but likes how they overcome the difficulties in the lives of the characters.
When you can have everything in the world due to privilege, but there is one thing you can’t buy Love.
Gabe Rhodes has lived his life in the high world, being a partner at the family firm. Not looking for relationships or marriage his has the reputation as a playboy, but all that will change with one interview.
Olivia is running away from her past. When she then gets to New York and interviews for a job with Gabe will she be able to resist the handsome man and will he discover her past which she is trying so hard to forget.
This story is full of lust, romance and excitement. I was frantically reading through this book to see what happens after ever turn of the page, the main characters are well developed and are a perfect combination to each and bounce off each other brilliantly. Gabe being the playboy and oldest in the family you expect him to be an idiot but his devotion to Livvie in the end is heartwarming. I can’t wait to read the next book in this installment and with five siblings you can imagine their is going to more in this wonderful series.
This is the first book I have read by this author and this book is a great introduction to this wonderful author and series. Bring on the next book / books.
Warning not for under 18!!! Such a great quick read! The author does a great job of mixing steamy, sexy, and emotions in this book page after page you can’t pull yourself away. She’s done a great job with character build-up as well as keeping a great flow throughout the story, Olivia is a great character who thinks she’s got everything in life setup. Gabriel’s a self-important type guy he doesn’t care for marriage or love for that matter. Boy meets Girl and the story gets steamy sexy and filled with emotions! this is a must-read! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!!!
This book was well written. The author did a great job portraying the characters and their personalities. It was fairly predictable. I have not read the second book in the series yet, but it would be worth checking out as well.
Shattered is the first book that I have ever read by Lisa Wood but it certainly won’t be the last. Shattered is the first book in the Rhodes Family series. There are 6 Rhodes siblings, 4 male and 2 female and I’d love to think that this is just the start of a 6 book series.
This is quite a short book and I devoured it all in one sitting. The book was fast paced and the story continued to flow along so I just didn’t want to put the book down – so I didn’t!
In this book we get the story of Gabriel (Gabe) who is the eldest of the Rhodes siblings. Gabe is one of the senior partners at the family’s law firm and he is totally blown away when Olivia Cameron comes for an interview with him.
To say that there are sparks immediately is an understatement. The chemistry between Olivia and Gabe is smoking. Let’s just say that scenes between them are pretty hot and steamy. Lisa Wood surely knows how to get the blood pumping.
The only issue I have with this book is that it contains what I would regard as spoilers for the next book in the series but it certainly won’t stop me from reading the next book as I can’t wait to read Ava’s story as I get the impression that it’s going to be even more hot and steamy that Gabe and Olivia’s story which I loved.
Shattered: Rhodes Family Book 1 by Lisa Wood is an erotica romance story and there is plenty going on with in this quick read, with drama and secrets, feelings and emotions. There is a lot of hot and steamy and oh so sexy romance. Lisa’s writing style makes it easy to read and pulls at you. The story is fast paced putting aside some editing issues. The characters were likeable and the chemistry between the two were intense from the moment they saw each other. The book was predictable at times but a good read non the less.
This was a very emotionally charged romance and I loved it. The characters were so well written that you couldn’t help experiencing their feelings at the same time.
Olivia was a successful lawyer who dreamed of marriage to her partner Dan but somethings aren’t meant to be and Olivia leaves Dan and her job. She puts a pin in a map to find her new location.
Gabe Rhodes is a powerful, wealthy lawyer who is interviewing for a Jr partner. As soon as his eyes land on Olivia he knows he has to have her. But with his past as a play boy can he win Olivias trust enough to let him in to her heart.
Olivia loves him and trusts him until something destroys that trust. Is their relationship beyond saving or can they both learn to love and trust again.
This is a steamy romance. The plot was pretty straightforward and the story was smoothly written. Although I found it a bit predictable, I thought the premise of Olivia’s backstory was interesting. At first, Gabe seemed really entitled but overall the characters were likeable, if a bit lacking in depth. It was fast-paced and easy to read.

Shattered is the first book in the Rhodes Family series by Lisa Wood. This is an erotic office romance- with plenty of sizzle, secrets, drama, emotion, and some insta-love. Ms. Wood is a new-to-me author so I was curious to see what her story would be like. I did enjoy the story and will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
The book is quite short, which makes for a quick and easy read- but there were a few things that didn’t sit right with me. The story is told from multiple POV’s- which I thought was a little ‘over-kill’ for such a short story. I get where the author was coming from, and I appreciate the added perspectives, but I think it would have worked better if the story was slightly longer as it did feel a little rushed at times, feeling as if the author ‘bent’ the story to fit the smaller space which gave some of the scenes and situations a slightly contrived feel.
The series focuses on the Rhodes family siblings- there are six siblings (2 girls and 4 boys)- and this is the eldest, Gabriel Rhodes’ story. While there are only two books in the series, so far, I imagine that the series will progress further, with each sibling getting their own instalment- hopefully that means at least a 6 book series(?). But here is where I had a bit of an issue with this instalment- the story introduces us to Gabe’s siblings and gives us snippets and a bit of a snapshot into the life of one of his sister’s in particular- who I later discover is the subject of Book Two- now, there were some revelations in this story which I consider to be ‘spoilers’ for her story- so I was a little perplexed as to why include that in this book, especially since she has her own book. I know the author was probably laying the groundwork for that next book- but I think this could have been achieved without revealing so much. But that is just my personal opinion, and it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of this book. I will have to wait and see how knowing these little snippets will affect my reading of Book Two.
There were a few editing issues with wrong words and/or wrong spelling, as well as some grammar issues. But these were fairly minor and again, didn’t detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the story. They just ‘pulled’ me out of the story when I encountered them- and I honestly feel that this book could have been quite stellar, if it had just been a little longer, and with a little more attention to detail from the editor/proof-reader.
I really enjoyed meeting Gabe, Olivia- and the rest of this family- I found it easy to invest in them and the outcome of their story. I am quite intrigued by what the author has in store for us in future additions.
Thank you, Lisa Wood!
Heed the description – this book is for mature readers only. Also not one you will want to read in public. Wood is a new author to me and although there is much to be cautioned of from an explicit standpoint there is also genuine emotion at the root with a strong storyline. I found this to be a quick read and one that I enjoyed.
Shattered is the first book in the Rhodes Family series. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I enjoyed it. I will warn, it is very R rated, and written for mature audiences. The book is a little too graphic for my liking, makes 50 Shades look like PG. But if I look beyond those scenes, the book had a good story line. I love that the female lead, Olivia, is a strong independent woman, and a rocking lawyer. Granted she is running from a failed relationship, but she is rocking her life. Gabriel is the male lead, and while he is arrogant, rich and a ladies man, he is also a pretty good guy. He is a family man, and goes above and beyond to take care of Olivia, even after just meeting her. I love the supporting characters as well, and look forward to seeing how book 2 plays out. There is some hints toward it’s plot at the end of this book. I loved the way the book was written, alternating point of views. While this is nothing new for romance books, seeing his and her views, this had a new approach I have never experienced. It has chapters for many of the characters, including Gabriel’s sister and parents. It added to the unfolding of the story and the emotions involved.
Olivia Cameron is on the run from her past. After walking in on her boyfriend mid coitus at his place of work she decides that it’s time for a change. Her impulsiveness lands her in New York City where she knows noone, has no job prospects and is living in a motel. With all of her legal experience she should have no problem finding a job at a reputable firm right?
Gabriel Rhodes is a millionaore playboy that works at the family law firm. He isn’t interested in settling down until he sets eyes on Olivia. After a long day of interviews he feels that he has saved the best for last. What is it about her that has him ready to be tied to one woman for the unforeseeable future? Surely she can’t refuse the offer he puts before her.
The story of Gabe and Olivia is a great over coming heartache and betrayal to find love story. The two couldn’t be more opposite, but yet they are destined to be together. They both have to overcome their insecurities in order to be stronger both individually and as a couple. This was a good book with good characters from cover to cover.
Shattered by Lisa Wood is Book one of the Rhodes Family series. This book is not a standalone and the books in the series should be read in order.
Olivia never expected she’d be in the position she’s found herself in but now she’s starting over again in New York City. First on her list is to get a new job so she can survive. In walks Gabriel Rhodes. Olivia feels an instant attraction but she’s given up on men and she certainly can’t feel anything for the man interviewing her for a job. Gabriel sees Olivia and knows he will do anything to keep her close. She is definitely skilled enough for the job and he’s throwing in some extra perks to make sure she says yes. Will Gabriel be able to act on his attraction to Olivia or will she stand firm on her no more men decision?
I enjoyed this book! It was a good read and I couldn’t put it down. I read it in one sitting!
I am looking forward to reading book two!
Shattered: Rhodes Family Book 1 by Lisa Wood
If your looking a hot romance but don’t have a lot of time to sit and read this is the book for you to try.
Olivia made me want to shake her a few times. She was so set that she refused to look at the other side or let anyone explain. I know she got burned but to take that strong of a stance I felt was a bit extreme.
Gabriel, oh Gabriel. He’s hot, successful and a man. He decided he knew best and boy did that blow up.
The chemistry between Olivia and Gabriel was intense from the moment they met and only got hotter from there.
I enjoyed this book, already have the next one ready to go in my Kindle.

Shattered (Rhodes Family #1) by Lisa Wood
18+!
This is the first book I’ve read by the author, but it will not be the last. Wood has a way of bringing these sexy characters to life. Rhodes Family was a great series title and I can’t wait for the next ones.
Olivia, Livvie as Gabe calls her, leaves one day and ends up in New York. The first day in town she is hired to work for a law firm. She finds her boss attractive, but has sworn off men. The quote I chose for Olivia is: “Oh my God. I was so angry with him for betraying me. He’s in that hospital bed because of me.”
Gabe, a partner for the family law firm, has to hire a new junior partner. When Olivia walks in things change for him. When he learns of her past and how she was brought to New York he is mad. The quote I chose for Gabe is: “Livvie, my life was empty before you came into it. You have made me realize that I don’t want a life without you in it. I’ve loved you from the minute I saw you waiting for your interview. You are sweet and kind and motivated. You make me want to be a better man. Olivia Jane Cameron, would you do me the supreme honor of being my wife?”
This is a romance lovers dream come true. Please check it out!
Shattered by Lisa Wood is my first book by this author and by what I just read, this won’t be my last. The Rhodes name can get you almost anything you want in New York, but Gabriel Rhodes is going to have to work hard to get the one thing he never wanted.
Gabe is your typical “Playboy” but when Olivia Cameron comes to interview at his family’s law firm he will do just about anything to get her to take the job, even spend over half a million dollars on her. But with secrets comes someone else telling the truth.
This fast-paced sexy office romance was so much more then I thought it was going to be. I loved everything about this couple and the Rhodes family. I so need to know more about that other office romance no one is talking about.
Shattered by Lisa Woods is the first book in the Rhodes Family series. This is a great start to this series as it introduces you to the family and to the authors way of writing. I enjoyed reading about the characters of Gabe and Olivia. You could tell they had a strong connection between them which drew me in to their story.
I liked the way the author wrote about them too. It didn’t feel like your typical romance story it actually felt like that was a deeper story happening. I became invested in the characters and I enjoyed the secondary characters introduced, especially those we might get to read about in future books.
This is overall a great book and a strong way to start a new series. I am looking forward to what else is to come.
