Eve Duncan receives a package on her porch, a burned skull that she feels compelled to restore. But dark forces are operating not far from her home and soon everyone she loves is under the threat of a mad killer seeking revenge. This is by far the best Eve Duncan book that I have ever read! The characters are realistic and portrayed with great emotion and detail. The man who is trying to destroy Eve and her family is diabolical and so twisted that you want him to get caught and punished…soon, before he does more harm. Kaskov, Cara’s Russian grandfather, is a featured part of the story, and instead of being villainous, he is actually helpful. The new character introduced is Darcy, Cara’s friend from school. She is like comic relief with a twist because her life is threatened, also. This book was a book that will knock you out of your chair with its twists and turns and action that does not stop from page one until the conclusion. Iris Johansen has given the reader a book that will be hard to put down and will also make you think afterwards about all you hold dear and how one moment in time can change everything.

New York Times bestselling author, Iris Johansen, does it again in Shattered Mirror, Eve Duncan #23. WOW what a ride this one was. Right from the start you are off and running in this fiction thriller mystery. It gave me chills thinking someone is out there watching in the woods.
Eve is thrown back into the mix of things when a skull is left in a pretty package for her. But once she completes the reconstruction, her daughter brings home a friend and it’s like looking at a carbon copy of the reconstructed skull. TWINS!! Thus we are off and running on this crazy person’s game. But things are not always what they appear to be and whose next in is part of the game. Everyone is a pawn for the final explosion.
I was entrapped from the beginning until the end. Very well written, fast paced, waiting for all the pieces to fall into place had me gripping my nook. The antagonist in this story is just down right scary, there is nothing more I can say about that. The way the author has everything so intertwined that you just have no idea who is he really after and during all this absolute craziness, family bands together like they should even though some relationships are tested and/or possibly starting?
Written in the third person narrative is perfect for this story as we get to read all the thoughts and feelings of many different characters throughout the story.
4 chilling stars.
**Review by Lisa, Late Night Reviewer for Up All Night With Books**
Shattered Mirror, book 23, iris Johansen’s Eve Duncan series. This long running series HOOKED ME from book 1!!! This series is on my Must Read Soonest list. I am Thankful to St. Martin’s for allowing me an ARC through NetGalley. I am voluntarily posting this review. The Eve Duncan series, fast past, page turning, Suspenseful Thrillers!!! Iris Johansen writing keeps reader on the edge of seat, always guessing, all in, heart pounding excitement. As a young mother, her daughter Bonny, was stolen. The search has lasted years. Wanting to help others in the same nightmare, she became a forensic sculptor. Giving a skull a face again. Helping to bring ‘lost’ children home. She is the top of her profession. With a long waiting list looking for her help. Her husband, former FBI, now Atlanta police detective. Their son, Micheal, 6yrs old. Together they helped two foster daughters find a better life. One a world famous artist. The other, young adult, gifted cellist. Over the years, the skulls and cases she and husband have worked have brought danger to their life. To their family’s as well. The lastest…on their doorstep a package, inside a skull and mirror. The youngest daughter brings home a friend, ?!?. Once again a case to be solved. Someone’s love one to ‘bring home’. DANGER!!! SUSPENSE!!! UNPREDICTABLE twists and turns!!! A read that Will Not stop at bedtime!!!
What fabulous read!!! No one writers a thriller as well as johansen,I don’t know how she keeps writing such characters and storylines that have you sitting on the edge of your seat, but she does!! Every new book that comes out just keeps getting better and better. This is a eve ducan novel and not only do we have some of my most favorite characters, but new ones from cara’s mysterious school mate who’s more then she seems to the sick as shit villian Norwalk!!! But one of my favorites and the one I’m so in love with us eve’s special and gifted son Michael !!! For a six year old he’s way beyond his years, like eve he see’s more then most and I can’t wait to see what happens with this mother and son team!! When I sit down will any iris johansen book I know I’m in for one big mind f##k,but I live to read this great storytellers words!!! Can’t get enough!!!
This was another good Eve Duncan story. I like that Iris Johansen moves up the timelines in the next book. This one takes place 4 years after the last book. I am still not all for the whole Jock and Cara thing. I still find it weird and have for several books but as Cara gets older maybe I won’t find it so weird. One thing that has been bugging me is the ages of Jane, Eve, Joe, Jock, Caleb and MacDuff, as the books that I have read never tell you it’s hard to gauge their age and I think in my mind I’m putting them older than they are. Michael is Michael again in this book, if every child could be like him, I might have kids, haha. I was disappointed that we had no update on Jane or Caleb in this book, it would have been nice to know what they are up to 4 years later.
*Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this for my honest opinion*
I’ve literally been reading books from this author since I was 13 and almost 20yrs year later she never disappoints. The book shows you what family and love is about. The family that you depend on sometimes is proven to be your friends. I loved the ending it gives you something to look forward to. If you enjoy a good thriller this book is for you. I received this book from NetGalley for a honest review.
Probably my favourite Iris Johansen thriller so far. A very close to home mystery for Eve Duncan and her family with a plot you won’t see coming and a very sadistic villain to boot.
I’ve enjoyed this series for years. This one brought Eve in focus as she solved a mystery while attempting to save her family. Good guys always win…don’t they. You’ll be reading this one fast hoping they do.
Shattered Mirror is part of the Eve Duncan series, which is an all-time favorite of mine, by Iris Johansen. Sometimes when a series gets to book #23 (or another higher number) the story becomes predictable, boring, or repetitive. Yet, Iris Johansen writes each Eve Duncan book as its own story. Each story has a unique mystery, new interesting characters, and a different setting. While all of that is new and exciting, there are the old favorite characters, relationships, and familiar settings that have always made this series a must-read.
Shattered Mirror focus’ on Cara. Her family, her history, her present, and her future are all shared to allow the reader to get to know her better. Of course, Eve, Joe, and their son Michael are all featured characters since they are now the family that Cara never had growing up. Jock, I picture him as a rough around the edges sexy alpha male who always seems to be around, is a huge part of the story since the connection between Cara and Jock has always been part of any story that Cara is part of. I will always be an Eve Duncan fan but it is fun to get the chance to know the secondary characters from her other books.
Read this series, start it in any order, but read it. Iris Johansen has a great talent for suspense, thrills, twists, and turns.
Eve Duncan receives a burned skull inside a gold box on her doorstep. As Eve reconstructs the skull she finds a beautiful young woman. As the plot starts to come together, Eve find there is a connection between Cara’s roommate, Cara’s grandfather and Cara. Can Eve and Joe figure it out before her family is destroyed?
Another amazing book in the Eve Duncan Series. Iris Johansen writes in an incredible thriller which continues building until the very end.
This book kept my attention from the first chapter until the last. I highly recommend this book.
Love this author and the characters
Been a fan for years, but this book has put a stop to that. Same story, different character names. Far too familiar scenario. Not hatd to figure out the ending. Only made it a quarter of the way thru before I was dozing off from boredom.
Love all her books!
I absolutely love the Eve Duncan books, you can’t put them down!
I love Eve Duncan novels, although this one was a little predictable. Being an acquaintance of Eve Duncan can be a very dangerous thing…..
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.
When a box containing a human skull is left in the passenger seat of their truck, Eve realizes that someone is trying to send a message. Cara and Darcy are roommates at a famous performing arts school. They both have their inner secrets, but have become as close as sisters. But what they don’t know is a serial killer may have them in his sights.
Love ALL her books. Every one is a must read
It doesn’t disappoint. It’s what you would expect from one of her books
Love the entire Eve Duncan series, the only thing that bothered me was that with everything that happened she never once heard from or comtacted her other daughter Jane Maguire. It just was that tiny piece missing that seemed odd to me. Otherwise fantastic book read it in 24 hours!
Read this book in two days!
