This book certainly grabbed my attention, it reads like a dark twisted fairytale with its fascinating characters. A pampered Princess, Prince Charming and a Dark Knight what more could you want? And like every good fairytale should, it has its share of monsters too.
There’re twists and turns, secrets and lies throughout. It’s a riveting page turner laced with danger, cruelty and violence.
The pace flowed well with lots of background story so you really get a feel for the characters.
I’m not sure about my feelings for Eliana as yet, I found her to spoilt and irritatingly naive at times. I’m hoping she surprises me in book 2. I saw glimpses of the strong woman I know she can be, so fingers crossed.
I definitely had a favourite character and it was Jaxx, he really intrigued me and I can’t wait for more from him.
I’m looking forward to reading the next part, I’m sure we’re in for one hell of a ride as more shocking ugly truths are revealed.
OMG! This book was EVERYTHING! There are not enough words to describe how awesome this story was! If you love dark, angsty, twisty, reads then this is definitely the book for you! Does end on a somewhat cliffhanger
At first it took me a minute to get into it because of the whole delusional princess disorder. But then the book really started to pick up and took off. Twists and emotional rollercoaster. I wasnt a fan of Eliana until halfway through the book and I’m more in love with Jaxx and Abel than Costin and Joshua. I’m excited for book 2 that couldn’t come fast enough.

SPOILER:
It’s a cliffhanger.
This was such an intense and amazing read. Being the debut story for this author, I was surprised and astounded at how deeply she took us into the characters’ lives. I’ve never really been into “mob-based” novels and tend to shy away from them. But there was something about the way Eliana captured me from the moment I met her in the first chapter. I wanted to know who she was speaking to and knew I had to read it to find out. And when the author immediately took us to the child who would become the woman speaking at the beginning of the story, I could tell this little girl would be untamable no matter how hard everyone tried to do just that with her.
All of the secondary characters were necessary and played dynamic parts in the depth of the story. There wasn’t one moment that wasn’t important. The love triangle was absolutely heartbreaking. The secrets revealed as they navigated their ways through their growing from little children to young adults absolutely crushed me. And I have a feeling we have barely scratched the surface of the underhanded dealings or the importance of each of these characters.
It’s a mystery wrapped up in a riddle wrapped up in a puzzle, and I wanted to get to the center of it with each corner I turned. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, the author proved me wrong by adding another layer to the deception and to the secrets that I kept peeling away. The teenage angst was evident, and the corruption and greed that drives so many of the characters runs so much deeper than is revealed in this first in the series. I laughed out loud and cried over the heart deep pain this heroine went through. I cannot wait to read the next book and am dying to see where this story leads.
