When had life stopped being so simple? Probably around the time that Casey Frost first agreed to pay off her drug addict brother’s debt to save him from a brutal beating. It soon became a “thing.” When the dealer—who’s also an Alpha shifter—demands she do something that goes against her very being, Casey decides enough is enough. It’s while she’s confronting the Alpha that he appears—Eli Axton, a … Axton, a ruthless wolf shifter with a dark reputation. When their eyes lock and the mating urge violently kicks in, she knows her world is about to change.
The last unmated male in his pack, Eli feels weary and alone. Seeing his friends so happy makes the Head Enforcer acutely feel the absence of his true mate. He wouldn’t have expected to find her in the parking lot of a shifter fight club, or for her to be such an unusual breed of shifter. Certain that the female enforcer belongs to him, he doesn’t hesitate to claim her. Not everyone is happy to see Casey mated, though. Soon danger is coming at them from different angles, threatening the life they’re trying to build. Their enemy needs to be eradicated fast. But how did you destroy an enemy when you weren’t sure who they were?

I’m sad to see this series come to an end but what a great ending for a fun series! I can’t wait to move on to the Olympus Pride series. Pallas cats are great!
‘Shards of frost’ is the last book in ‘The Mercury pack’ series. I have enjoyed both series (The Phoenix pack series & The Mercury pack series ) of the writer Suzanne Wright very much!! The stories are funny, a bit emotional, steamy and very entertaining. This book ‘Shards of frost’ is a great addition to it.
The story is again told from both POV’s. Both characters, Eli and Casey have a strong and dominant personality but they also respect that in the other. Yes, Eli, like all the other dominant wolf shifters in this series, tries to get his own way in every situation but Casey is intelligent enough to see through his tricks and she can certainly hold her own. She and her animal are ruthless and deadly in a fight.
From the first glance Eli and Casey know that they are true mates and they have no problems to merge their separate lives together. It all feels very natural to them and their animals. It’s very wonderful to see. Eli and Casey also have a lot in common, both are loyal to their packs and the people they love, they are caring (in their own way), intelligent, sporty and they love to fight and both are enforcers too for their pack.
One of the things that I love about these shapeshifter stories is that the writer loves nothing more than to add a new and very interesting shifter kind to the mix. And this time and in this book the writer did it again. I had so much fun with these (new) shifters, I certainly laughed a few times out loud. Because I could so picture some scenes in my mind. I’m still smiling when I think of it! The fact that Casey was a soccer player also created some entertaining times in the story. It was wonderful to see all the other characters again of both the Mercury and the Phoenix pack. And the epilogue at the end was just fantastic, to see how everyone was doing 8 years later. The perfect ‘ending’ of this series. I’m so happy that although these two shapeshifters series have come to an end, there is already a new series (The Olympus pride) to discover and explore and that is just what I will do next.
Hilarious and Awesome
As always Suzanne Wright leave me a pile of mush ok n the ground. Laughing laughing laughing at everything going on. I love all these books!!
This was a rare one where there was absolutely no resistance to the mate bond that this series is known for. I actually really liked how immediately accepting they both were.
Eli and Casey seemed to understand that there was no reason not to trust their true mates, even though they knew very, little about each other. Because of this, this had my favorite kind of relationship where there was little drama between the couple. Instead Eli and Casey worked together to face outside drama coming at them. It’s very refreshing to read.
Eli is a dominant wolf shifter who was very protective and possessive without overshadowing Casey’s dominance as a female wolf shifter. Casey was also very understanding of his need to protect her even with how strong and capable she was. She held her own but she also didn’t reject his protectiveness.
The ending was super sweet with the glimpse the author gave us of their future. I am a little disappointed that we won’t be getting Cain’s story. He was an intriguing side character, but I was also happy to see a glimpse into his future as well. Great series!

Head enforcer and wolf shifter, Eli, the only male in his pack left without a mate, finds his in the parking lot of a fight club. Casey is a mink shifter, an enforcer, and soccer player. She is approached by her brothers drug dealer to do something against her nature. When she doesn’t, he’s waiting for her but so is Eli. As soon as they lock eyes, they now they are true mates. As they get to know each other, someone tries to tear them apart. But even though their bond has snapped completely into place, nothing can rip them apart.
Great story with action, sex, and humor. I cracked up at several parts. I hate to see this series end but I know they’ll pop up in other series. I really and truly loved this story.
I had just read the last book in the Phoenix Pack and in Shards of Frost we get the last of the Mercury Pack, it was so sad to say goodbye but what a way to end! In Shards of Frost, we finally get Eli’s happily ever after, and it was amazing!! Eli and Casey’s story starts off with the two of them automatically knowing they are true mates and claim each other. The rest of the story is about them getting to know each other and navigating their new lives. They both have internal and external struggles but the connection is strong and they don’t fight it. However, along the way, like in all the other previous books, conflicts and danger seems to get in the way. There is someone who does not want Eli and Casey together and it gets intense. The battle scene at the end was brutal and surprisingly humorous at the same time! The side story of Cain and Cassidy was a real treat.
What I definitely enjoy about Suzanne Wright’s stories are all the different animals that are introduced and the minks in this story were awesome! I thought the Pallas cats were vicious, but the minks are just as mean and crazy. The scenes when Casey and Madisyn are in their mink and Pallas cat forms were hilarious, talk about kindred spirits! And poor Bracken, the fear of Casey’s mink wanting to kill him is real and laugh out loud funny. I loved those scenes!
All in all, a wonderful conclusion to the series and the epilogue was just perfect. From what I understand, there will be a spin-off series so even though this was the last of this series, I am hoping we will see some familiar faces again.
I was glad to finally read Eli’s story. I felt he was properly matched with Casey. Casey is hardcore. She had a childhood that would make anyone bitter and a mental mess, but she wasn’t. I did not like Ira one bit and had little respect for her mother. I enjoyed the pranks referenced between Roni and Eli. The bad pick-up lines, the old friendships and the new issues. The only thing missing was the bantering with Greta! It was nice to see the Mercury and Phoenix packs living their HEAs. I did not put this book down until I was finished. I really wanted to know when the other shoe would drop, and I didn’t want to wait to find out.
There were editing issues. Despite that, the writing flowed and held my attention. The pacing fit the story. The story is told in dual pov which allows the reader to see what’s going on from different angles. There was lots of fighting in this book, with bloodshed, and sometimes with bodies. This is a read for those 18+ of age due to language and lots of adult scenes.
