Madeline Thompson, the woman the outlaws were looking for at the beginning of Boaz’s Wager (Book 2 in the Montana Collection), has finally arrived in Lewistown, Montana, but no one knew she was coming because she had disguised herself as a man. She was only going to stay in town long enough to get more supplies for her trip to Canada. But then fate intervened with a bullet to her shoulder…and now … now she’s not going anywhere.
When Marshal Shane Taft discovers Madeline’s true identity, he knows only a desperate woman would take such a big risk in traveling through the wild territory of Montana without a chaperone. That alone prompts him to protect her. Finding out she’s recently widowed and is carrying a child prompts him to propose marriage.
Madeline’s first husband left a lot to be desired. Besides thinking women had nothing worthwhile to contribute but an heir, he was cold toward her. She would say no to the deal Shane is offering, but necessity forces her to marry him. Nothing good can come from being under another man’s thumb.
That is, of course, unless he happens to be the right man.

Shane’s Deal is just as good as the other books in the series. It’s humerous to watch Madeline act like Eva in some ways, however I’m thrilled with the ending. It ties up loose ends from Patty’s Gamble satisfactorily!

This starts off with a bang and just keeps going. It’s sweet, romantic, amusing and heartwarming. Shane is the marshal in Lewistown, he’s charismatic, caring, protective and generous. Madeline is the widow of a man who was killed, she’s on the run because people were breaking into her house looking for something. She took all the money from the house, disguised herself as a man and left town. She’s was just passing through Lewistown to get food when she gets shot. When Shane questions her about why she’s there, she tells him the truth. He figures she is in danger and will be laid up for weeks in a town with too many men and not enough women, so he tells her that she’s going to marry him so he can protect her. She agrees and they get married. The mayor of the town wasn’t too happy that they married before anyone knew she was in town, and said that he’d make her a better husband. As Shane and Madeline get closer, the mayor gets more pushy with her. This is the first book I’ve read of this series, but it won’t be the last. It should be added to your TBR list.

Shane – towns Marshall and
Madeline- a pregnant widow on the run from her husband killers.
I enjoyed reading this captivating story that is fantastically written with charismatic characters and witty dialogue. I have read a lot of Ruth Ann’s books but I haven’t read this series. This book could be read as a standalone but now I want to read the rest of the series. I loved Shane the strong silent type and he stayed that way through the entire story. Ruth was able to demonstrate what a wonderful and thoughtful man he was through his actions. Their story has a wonderful HEA!
Another great story by Ruth Ann Nordin. Madeline and Shane meet unexpectedly when Madeline gets shot in the shoulder while dressed as a man. Shane proposes marriage to protect her. I love the joking between the two. Shane and Madeline have great chemistry. I couldn’t stop reading…needed to know what was going to happen next. Chemisty, suspense and action….Great Read!!!!
4.5 stars. I really liked Madeline’s strength. She is capable of taking care of herself until circumstances change that. She is practical and though she doesn’t like it she does what is best for her and the baby. Shane is just a stand up guy. He sees a need and takes steps to help. He proves that throughout the book. The way Shane and Maddy had such an easy going relationship, teasing and joking made me smile. They enjoyed spending time making the other smile and laugh. It was great to see the characters from the previous two books and where they are now. There is a true bad guy and plenty of action in the story and the spice is a very low simmer.
