In this gripping thriller from New York Times bestselling author Linda Castillo, a devastating murder exposes an Amish family’s tortured past. The peaceful town of Painters Mill is shattered when an Amish grandmother is brutally murdered on an abandoned farm. When Chief of Police Kate Burkholder arrives on the scene, she learns that the woman’s seven-year-old granddaughter is gone, abducted in … granddaughter is gone, abducted in plain sight. My Recommendation
Shamed is the 11th astonishing book written by Linda Castillo involving Police Chief Kate Burkholder. The suthor has written another fantastic story focusing on mystery , murder, and the Amish faith. There is so much drama and suspense the reader will not want to stop reading. This storyline is simply incredible and I enjoyed it immensly.
The characters are very likeable and add greatly to the story. I always enjoy Kate Burkholder and her lust for justice. John Tomasetti, Kate’s love interest, is at her side once again helping her maneuver through this twisting mystery. Together these two are unstoppable. The interaction between these two characters adds depth to the story.
This story will take the reader on a journey that is very unexpected and the outcome will leave them gasping. I was drawn into this story from the first few pages. With lies and deceit being thrown at Kate throughout the entire story it makes her solving the crime very difficult. The author has done a tremendous job telling this story and she has certainly added to the quality of her writing.
I was given the opportunity to read this book in advance of its release through Netgalley and Linda Castillo. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. I have rated this outstanding book with five stars for definitely meeting my expectations of a superb book that I can highly recommend to others.
Congratulations to Linda Castillo for writing another amazing mystery for her readers to enjoy. I will be anticipating more from this author in the future.

Shamed by Linda Castillo
Shamed is #11 in the Kate Burkholder series and can be read as a stand alone. The author does it again with another riveting read with Kate Burkholder ex-Amish police chief investigating the kidnapping of a 7 year old Amish special needs little girl. This book holds your attention, makes you care for the little girl, has enough going on to keep you involved and wanting to find out who took the little girl and killed her Grandmother…..I had a hard time wanting to do anything other than read this book! If you have never read one of Linda Castillos books now would be a great time to start, while I on the other hand have to wait for her next book to be released. Thank you Netgalley and the Publishers St. Martin’s Press for allowing me to read this ARC book!
This book is one of the better ones in awhile in this series. The whole sneaking around with John and Kate needs to end but in this book it wasn’t mentioned as much. The mystery part of this book was really interesting. I have to say the Amish in this book were more forth coming then in previously book though again they did keep secrets. I do believe everyone keeps secrets no matter what when it comes to a murder investigation. This book gives me hope for better stories in this series then in the last few books.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Hold on to your seat your in for a wild ride!! Kate gets a call about a wagon in a ditch and discovers a horrific murder of a Amish grandmother and that her granddaughter with special needs is missing. A parents worst nightmare a child has been taken by a stranger. Kate is racing against the clock to find out the truth before it’s to late but old secrets and lies are blocking her path to the truth. Another great edition to a wonderful series. Better not have plans when you start reading this book you will not want to put it down.
Shamed by Linda Castillo is book 11 in the Kate Burkholder series. I have read all in this series. Shamed could be read as a stand alone but if you like mysteries and thrillers, you will want to read them all. When I started this, I was only going to read a couple chapters and pick it up the next day. That didn’t happen. I could not put it down..
The story opens with an Amish grandmother and 2 of her granddaughters gathering nuts for baking on an abandoned, neighboring farm. A fun afternoon soon turns to murder and a kidnapping.
When Kate is called to the scene she finds the grandmother stabbed numerous times, a missing granddaughter and a bloody crime scene. Why is there only one of the girls gone and why does the remaining little one saying the devil was there.
She has her work cut out for her and only a tire track of a pick up and a large size boot print that could point to numerous residents of the county. Then throw in the tight lipped Amish. She has her worked cut out for her. Her Amish upbringing and gut instinct will be thrown in overdrive and have her traveling over county lines for not only answers but, also have her placed in the line of danger.
Castillo provides not only the mystery but touches on the personal lives of the Painter Mills police department. There is not one in this series that is not great but this is one of the best.
I was given an ARC by Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review.
I think I’ve read all the books in this series. I’m not certain, though – and this is important – because it doesn’t matter. The book stands alone brilliantly. I won’t recap the plot as others have done so. I will say that this is a terrific book in a terrific series. The combination of suspense, with a touch of romance, set in the Amish community, makes this a winner. Linda Castillo is an auto-buy for me.
(3.5)
Shamed is another book in the Kate Burkholder detective series and the second book I’ve read by this author.
I love a good mystery, this didn’t disappoint. Although I liked “A Gathering of Secrets” more, this was enjoyable. Filled with secrets and insights of the quiet Amish Community, this book starts with a horrific murder and kidnapping in the first chapter. Every minute is priceless when solving a crime, but when a kidnapping occurs, especially a child, time is even more precious. The writer takes you on a crime solving ride, all the while explaining the intricacies of the Amish people’s day their life.
I look forward to going back and reading her previous books and to her new ones, I received an ARC of this book. Opinion is my own.
