#1 New York Times Bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken, brings you the third and final book in the internationally best selling Ruin series. This is a stand alone novel.Everything done in darkness, will eventually be brought into the light.I ran, but all it did was keep me one step ahead of my past. I tried to start over; new name, new identity. But you can’t change your soul.A fresh start at … change your soul.
A fresh start at college was just what I needed. For a while, it worked. I was the party girl, the one that seemed confident, but it was a lie.
When guys kissed me–I felt only pain.
When they touched me–Nothing but fear.
Deep inside, every girl wants to be the beauty in the story, to find someone that will see you as their world.
But the truth? I was the beast. And as much as I wanted redemption, I wasn’t fool enough to think I’d ever get it.
Until he walked into my life.
I wasn’t prepared to fall for someone. My scars were too deep, the wounds too raw. But he offered me peace, he offered me security. I should have known it was just another lie–I should have known that falling in love with my professor was a bad idea.
But I was powerless to stop myself from falling.
And he was powerless to catch me.
Because the darkness finally caught up to me, and as fate would have it, a cruel twist almost bled me dry. But I’m stronger than I knew. I’m stronger than you think.
You think you know my story, but you don’t….after all everyone has Shame in their lives– and I’m no longer afraid to show you mine.

Another great book by RVD. Lisa has a past that has been hidden and has recently been exposed. Tristen has received some information and now needs to find the truth with starts with Lisa. This is an emotional book as you learn more about Lisa’s past and how she has been controlled and abused. I loved that the overall story as how you can survive and come out on the other side and also liked how RVD addresses mental illness. Definitely a more serious read than many of her other books, but it does have some humor sprinkled in, in addition you get more meaningful and thoughtful quote from Wes.

This was a good book to round out and finish this series. I was really curious about Lisa’s past after the pieces of information we gathered in the previous books of the series. I actually really liked her as a character, and she knows that she had made some mistakes in the past. Those were coupled with her being a victim to certain circumstances, so it was nice to see her trying to move on and get past things.
Tristan was a character that I wasn’t quite sure whether or not to like. He had some hidden secrets which you just knew were going to wreck Lisa when they came out, and his demeanour in general I couldn’t quite get on board with.
Their story was an interesting journey, and the bad guy in the end did surprise me. I picked parts of the mystery as I went, but the way it unravelled in the end was unexpected.
I love how Wes, Kiersten, Gabe and Saylor are still involved heavily in parts of the storylines, and I did like the way everything wrapped up at the end.
This book was good but super hard to read. Honestly, this is your trigger warning because this book deals with some heavy abuse. So while I enjoyed the storyline and the growth of the characters there were some parts that were hard to read. Especially since each chapter started with an entry from the dead abuser’s diary. I get why that was done but it made it rough. Anyway, this book rounds out the series nicely and I was happy that Lisa got her HEA.
Yep I have a new favorite man in this series and it’s Tristan, “old,” I finally managed to croak out. “Like gross old man. You’re lucky I stopped kissing you when I did. Don’t want my arthritis rubbing off on you.” Yes that man is quite the jokester. Lisa she can be a smarta** at times but that is her strong point, it’s her defense mechinism (did I spell that right?), “should we make necklaces or something? I can wear your tight-a** professor jacket to school…prove to everyone we’re going steady.” I loved the atmosphere Tristan and Lisa had when they were together, “because you like naked men running around trying to find things to dry themselves with?” Lise I think sometimes likes to tease her man, “really?” His voice hoarse from sleep. “You wake me up just to turn me on? Thanks, Lisa, really, I appreciate that. Not like I’ve had enough shock to my body these last few days.” I loved this book.
