“This book is Harry Potter meets the Hunger Games in a bold twist on a classic magical young adult adventure.” Jaymin Eve, Bestselling Author of Supernatural Academy You Don’t Choose The Academy. The Academy Chooses You. The last of the Culling Trials is here. I foolishly thought I’d survived the worst. There are too many people depending on me.

Shadowspell Academy: The Culling Trials Book 3 by Shannon Mayer and K.F. Breene is the last book in this supernatural Trilogy and the culmination of the magic K.F. and Shannon made happen. As I have said before these women have constantly showed their work is their passion and it shows in each and every word they weave together to make masterpieces. They are a force to be reckoned with and I am thankful that they came together and shared a magnificent story. As with the first two I could not put this book down. K.F. and Shannon imaginations know no bounds and it shows in the magical world they created where magic and the unknown come together in the trials of young adults trying to find where they fit but more than anything they are battling to survive when everything is against them. It is absolutely brilliant and is infused with just the right amount of quirky. There is never a dull moment when faced with death and you don’t know who, when or where they will strike, humour of from the characters will still have you laughing out loud whilst simultaneously having your heart in your throat.
I am sorry to see it end but am hoping against hope that the girls will continue.
Gah! I hate that this series is over and am hoping for a sequel of some kind. This third book covers that last part of the Shadowspell Academy Culling Trials. Here our main characters find out 1. If they’ve passed the trials, and 2. which house they’ll train in. But the road to this point is rocky and unpredictable, getting to the end is not guaranteed. I won’t say much about the book to avoid spoilers, but I couldn’t put it down! I literally walked around reading the book, trying to also function as an adult. Wild is her typical tough, resilient, clever self, the tension and mystery deepen, Wild is in even more danger, and the secondary characters get their chances to shine. Breene and Mayer make a great writing team. Please give us more!
YESYESYESYES!!! IT IS SO GOOD!!!!
I absolutely loved every single second of this book. I love the characters and their interactions. I love how they are a family and their bond. I cried a few times in this book and laughed at least ten. This book was an emotional rollercoaster and I absolutely loved it. I do not want this to be the last book of this series or in this world. I need at least another 10 books or so to keep me satisfied. There’s no cliffhanger and the ending was amazing for those that want it to end but I’m just saying I want to follow Wild where she goes next because I love her and this world and I want more. In the mean time, I’ll be busy rereading the series.
Book 3 is AMAZING! There seems to be several forces out to get Wild and her crew. She isn’t sure who to trust as the trials take a very dark turn. The danger is very real for Wild and crew. The action had my adrenaline pumping! I loved trying to figure things out. There are still so many questions rolling around my brain. I sure hope there will be more books about these fantastic characters and the world they live in. I bet the Academy will be even more interesting than the trials.
Firstly when you get to the end of this amazing book hands up if you guessed who the bad guy was , nope me neither ,the plots & sub plots are not something you would not of expected two separate authors to pull off so easily yet so intricately you’d think it was a single author’s . Wild is still leader of her dwindling pack of misfits & the hardest challenges are ahead of them all making what went before them almost easy . It’s make or break & Wild will do her damnedest to make her team doesn’t break even if she has to push or carry every single one of them . A fast paced exciting end to a great trio of books & hopefully not the last we are going to be hearing from Shadowspell Academy .
This is by far the best one of the 3 books. Let me tell you it hits all the feels. Wow what a ride.
You gotta watch out for the quiet, timid ones cause they pack some punch and will surprise you just like Wally did me.
This small little team has really come together and really show you what team work is all about. They pull together like troopers and step up to the plate like winners. I couldn’t have been more proud of them if I was their mother.
They had some tough trials in this one. Each and everyone of the team had to bring their A-game to the table for every trial in this one. It took all their cunning and ingenuity to pull through the trial.
The ending was awesome but I cried cause it was over.
Please, Please, Please Shannon Mayer and KF Breene don’t let this story end….Write more….
I very highly recommend this book and the entire series…….
This series was amazing. It’s young adult and I’m already nagging my teenager to read it next. I am a diehard Breene fan, and not so much a Mayer fan (sorry) but I love their writing together. The first book was fun to tell who was writing what, the second book got a but fizzier, and I think the third was blended even better.
You have to read books 1 & 2 before book 3, and I’d recommend reading them pretty close together. Because of the shortness of the books, they do not recap the previous books so prepare to five in head first. The first two books build up the suspense and mystery, and the third does not disappoint. Book 3 does solve the mystery and wraps everything up with a nice little bow, but also leaves room for additional books in the future. Now, I just want to know what happens when they finally go to the academy! This did not fully resolve my addiction for this series which is one of my two issues with the series. My other issue is petty, but I wish they had swapped the covers because there is not a single instance of unicorns in this book. Which I was really excited to read about based on the cover.
I really really hope more Breene/Mayer books are coming down the pipeline in the future!
talk about an amazing ending for the trials. a definite page turner, could not put the book down as I was so invested in what was happening. In fact Im hoping that there will be a spin off and we can continue with their story in their next adventure. fingers crossed. Has become one of my all time favourite trilogies. I highly recommend.
Make yourself comfortable before starting this book, because this is one thrilling read you won’t be able to put down.
The action was never ending with many twists & turns that keep you holding your breath until the end.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of this series. One of the best I’ve read in a long time.
I was a bit disappointed with the ending, as it felt a bit unfinished.
Hence the 4 stars rather than 5.
I can only hope with finger crossed that there will more character/spin-off books later down the road. I would happily devour more books about this ragtag group of friends and their future misadventures.
Great ending to a stand alone trilogy! You won’t be sorry to delve into the world built by KF Breene and Shannon Mayer. Adventures intrigue, mystery and sheer guts. Heck of a ride@
I loved this addictive, fast paced, story written by two of my favorite authors. Together they are awesome and the result is a book you won’t be able to put down! I love Wild and her crew. Together they make an unstoppable, impressive team, with Wild pulling them all together. The characters and world building is amazing, allowing me to picture what’s happening in my head. This action-packed book is filled with danger, vampires, necromancers, wizards, adventure, magic, trials, romance, suspense, twists and turns and more.
This book makes the series a perfect platform for additional stories. My only issue is where the authors are going to take these characters. There is a plethora of different options and directions the authors can utilize. Will the crew stay together even training in different houses? How will Wild learn to use all her powers? What is the Sandman’s story? Who’s Wild’s father? The list goes on. How does one beg authors to write more stories? I’m not done with these characters, how could they possibly be? Shannon Mayer and K.F. Breene are terrific authors in their own right. With this plot line they are incredibly dynamic.
What to read after the Harry Potter, Divergent or even Hunger Game craze has come and gone and left everyone looking for the next exciting fun read? This series that’s what!!!!! This YA series is really for anyone who loves a fast paced magical action packed adventure, not too young for adults who don’t generally like YA and not too mature for younger teens who may be looking for something to escape into. This series is action packed from the start, keeping you and the characters on your toes the whole time.
Shadowspell Academy book 3 takes us through the last of the culling trials and finds the answers Wild started this journey to find, neither of which were easy accomplishments for our leading lady or her band of misfits. Surprises I didn’t expect, villains I didn’t expect (and a couple I did) as well as unexpected heroes and getting to see the strength and perseverance of Wild and her crew as they literally fight for their lives in the last of the culling trials and work to sort out the baddies who have been up to no good and bring them to justice. Never underestimate the underdog, they usually have more tenacity and will power than you give credit for and that is evidence in Wild’s crew, a group of kids no one in this world would have ever imagined banding together and not only working together but becoming family. My question now is, can we PLEASE get some more of these characters??? I was not ready for these books to end, I devoured them entirely too quickly and much like at thanksgiving when you fill your belly too full with dinner but still want dessert I’m sitting here metaphorically wondering if Shannon Mayer and K.F. Breeze will give us dessert???? I sincerely hope so
Wild and her crew are thrown in to more danger than they ever expected and the mystery of the missing kids has to take a temporary back seat to what have become deadly trials. The action, adventure and hits keep coming and my heart broke! I screamed No! like a crazy person, laughed out loud to the confusion of those around me, and worried for what was happening. When you think that you can take no more it heats up another 50 degrees! This story takes you through the unexpected and leaves you wanting more!
The collaboration between Shannon Mayer and K.F. Breene is perfection and resulted in three amazing books.
This book finished the Culling trials and answered lots of questions. It was jam packed with magic and adventure.
There is definitely the potential for more books and I’m crossing my fingers that Mayer and Breene give those to us. I’ve become invested in these characters and would love to see where they go next.
I really enjoyed this book and the entire trilogy. The storyline was fantastic. It was intriguing, suspenseful, magical, mysterious, funny at times and a definite page turner. The trials Wild and her crew went through were action packed and kept you at the edge of your seat. The characters were great. I loved Wild’s entire crew, even Ethan in this book. They were all unique and added different magical abilities to their team. The ending was good but was more of an open ending. I can see how people may feel like there were unanswered questions. It was still ok though. It’s kind of like they are starting a new journey and that’s how I looked at it.
This book was everything and more! It kept me on the seat of my pants with every scene and page.
A phenomenal ending to what I hope, fingers crossed, is the intro trilogy to Shadowspell Academy.
Wild and her crew have to step it up as the action turns from testing to very real. The danger surrounding our heroes is a very intense and palpable thing as Wild continues to surprise everyone with her curiosity and refusal to roll over and take it. As she uncovers mystery after mystery, the cover of the Culling Trials unravels before our eyes.
This series is so well written, and impossible to put down until it ends. The story is full of twists and turns and impossible odds that are so creative, interesting, and fun. Your heart will beat a mile a minute as you learn the fate of Wild and the team. So very excellent!
Well, it’s over, and I’m sad, but what a wild ride it was! This book was filled with betrayals, shocking enemies, uncovered secrets, great action, and wonderful characters. I do tend to stay away from YA/NA because I don’t like the angst of teens, but this series has juggled that very well. They are teens, yes, but they tend to be a little on the mature side even while doing silly teen stuff. I really, really enjoyed this series ender, and I heard a rumor there is more on the way. I, for one, am very excited to hear that. Even if YA isn’t your favorite genre, you need to try this, especially if you like well-plotted and executed light fantasy. I highly recommend this book! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
OMGAAHHHHHH! I want more. I need more. I Must Have More!
Miss Breene and Miss Mayer have outdone themselves with this one. The shadowspell series as a whole is just… Phenomenal! This is an epic story worth the time it will take to reread it… many times over. I love the characters, the details, the story plot. It’s all so engaging that it kept me glued to my seat, my eyes on the page, from start to finish. I truly hope the authors decide to bring us more but, even without more story, it’s still a fantastic adventure.
Well done to both, K.F. Breene and Shannon Mayer! You both hit it out of the park with this one.
