Jennifer Shaw is an academy-trained mage with a dark secret but she is setting out to make things right even if it destroys her life. Her first stop is the wolf shifter rebels’ hideout where she’s greeted by the most suspicious, untrusting and downright gorgeous man she’s ever met, but she can’t let him distract her. A betrayal rocked him to his core and Liam Canis doesn’t trust anyone and he’s not going to be dissuaded from finding out the real reason the mage is there. Time is running out and only a mated pair will be able to save his friends and fix a wrong she can’t ignore.
This ‘High House Canis’ story is a cauldron full of trouble, energy and emotional turmoil. The chemistry between Jennifer and Liam is raw and full of electrical sparks that fly in every direction (sometimes literally) although they have a bit of charming cluelessness about their attraction and what it means. This couple is perfect for each other and their relationship is quite cute even as it captures the heart with all the gripping emotions that flow from the pages.
The plot is fast paced and energetic with lots of non-stop suspense and action that keeps readers hanging on by the fingernails with bit of excitement. The author portrayed this story and wonderful couple with bright, vivid intensity which makes it easy for readers to picture each and every detail including all the magic and passion. The story also has a stunning and exciting magical battle that results in a wonderfully exciting change for the rebels that readers can’t help but enjoy.

I became a true fan of this author when I started reading the High House Ursa series. This one is just as fascinating and intense. The rebels are prepared to take the fight to Moonlight Manor and regain their home from the Tyrant King. There forces are ready and the loyalists are weakened from the previous battles. The one concern they have is the King’s mage. Jennifer Shaw is a professor at the Mage Academy and feels strongly about helping the rebels because it is the right thing to do. Liam was betrayed and doesn’t trust anyone anymore. She appears inside the rebels boundaries and offers her help but meets resistance from all fronts. It’s kinda funny that Liam ends up being her guard and the arguments they have and her paybacks made me laugh. She’s not a combat trained witch but that doesn’t mean she can’t handle herself. I know Liam had a chip on his shoulder, but I hated the way he let everyone else bully her without intervention. Another part I loved was when she was practicing how to magically assist the rebels against the loyalists and using Liam as her practice dummy. This story touches on betrayal, redemption and acceptance. I highly recommend this book, as well as the entire series. I just love this series! The war over the House of Canis is coming to a head and Liam is right in the thick of it. Jennifer is a Mage who is determined to make up for the damage done to the House of Canis. She leaves the academy and shows up at the farm to help. Her appearance is not overly welcomed, but Liam get the job of vetting her and deciding whether she can be trusted. Their chemistry is instant, but they make each other crazy. As they get to know each other the chemistry ramps up, as does the time to attack the Manor. Great story line, fabulous characters…I can’t wait to see what is next!
Enjoyed the book!
What’s not to like about a feast of rollicking wolf shifter stories. Plenty of action, upset feelings, ending in love.
Worth it!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Shadow’s Howl pulled me in and kept me engaged throughout! You can feel the tension, distrust and fear between Liam and Jennifer immediately. The conflict brewing on the horizon is not the only one they must prepare for. Can they face each other and look deep within themselves individualy to find the strength they will need! All the feels, shifters and magic… I really hated when this story ended and am looking for more!

** spoiler alert ** Jennifer is determined to correct the past and help the right side. Liam trusts no one and believes everyone has ulterior motives. Can they work together? Will they come out successful?
I love the enemies-lovers spin on this one. I loved how despite what Jennifer was told, she was determined to do whatever she could to help those who were in the right, even if it meant turning her back on the other Magi. I didn’t blame Liam for being untrustfull, but loved as he slowly opened himself up to those around him and allowed himself to trust his gut again. Good read!
