From New York Times Bestselling Author, Kristen Proby, comes an all new paranormal romance set in the mystical city of New Orleans… way to stay sane. Everything changes the day Cassian Winslow joins my ghost walking tour and knocks my world off its axis with green eyes the color of the stone around my neck.
An unspeakable evil is loose in New Orleans, taking young women and leaving a bloodbath in his wake. More shadows lurking for me. More unhappy dead. There might be a way to stop it.
Open myself up to Cassian.
If I do, it could spell his death.
But if I don’t, it’s mine.

Absolutely loved this book. It was a fun read with really great characters.
Shadows is an amazing paranormal romance. I loved every moment of this one and could not put this one down. I just love Brielle and her sisters. Each has a different power and they will so draw you in. Then there is Cash, the FBI profiler , he will just make you swoon. I love how he handles everything Brielle and her sister through at him. He takes the paranormal world in stride. Cash and Brielle are hot together. This book gave me goosebumps and so pulled me in and wouldn’t let go. I so cannot wait for the next book of the Bayou Magic series to come.
After nearly a year-long break from paranormal romance (I’d been binge-reading contemporary/new adult like crazy), this awesome cover beckoned, and so I knew I just had to give it a go. I’m soooo glad I did because I found myself completely immersed in short order! What an exciting, creepy, unpredictable, suspenseful, romantic ride! Can’t wait for the next in the series!
Such a fun story!
I am all in on paranormal romance and seeing read people. I really enjoyed the suspense of this book and it was not what I expected from Kristen Proby. It was a great surprise. I loved Cash, what a fantastic guy. I love a book that as soon as two people see each other they know they are inexplicably meant to be together. It wasn’t an insta love book but more of an instant connection. I can’t wait for Millie’s book!
Witches, ghosts and all things spooky make up this amazing book that takes place in the French quarter. When Brielle starts to be haunted by dead women she must work with her sisters and a gorgeous fbi profiler to find the girls and the killer.
This story was totally different from what I normally read. I was very quickly lost in Brielle, her sisters and Cash’s story. It was eerie and I was totally here for it! Being an FBI profiler, Cash had seen some things in his time so it was a relief to Brielle that she and her sisters didn’t scare him off. They had a unique gift and it wasn’t always a blessing. But they had each others backs and were there for each other when needed. And boy! Was it needed! This story sucked me in and I kept gasping as new things were unveiled. It kept me on the edge of my seat and since I listened to the audio book, the narrators really brought this story to life. I could feel the evil lurking and I wanted Brielle to find out what was really going on! If you are willing to take a walk on the paranormal side, read this book! Looking forward to the next book in this series!
It’s been a few days and I’m still thinking about this book! To be honest I had to collect my thoughts and reign my emotions in a bit before I could write my review. I’m ashamed to admit that had Shadows not been written by one of my favorite authors I may have never read it. What a shame that would have been. Thanks to Kristen’s beautiful writing I’m now open to read more Paranormal books. I can’t wait for more Bayou Magic!
New Orleans is a place I love and I think it’s the perfect setting for a suspenseful, creepy, slightly scary story like this one. From the first few pages of the book I was pulled right in. Brielle and Cash were such a natural match and just fit together. He was so steady and strong. I feel like there’s more to come with their story and hope it will be woven throughout the books to come in this series.
The paranormal genre may be a new direction for Kristen but all the things I love about her writing are still there as well. I loved catching up with a few characters from the Boudreaux series. She gave the reader a glimpse into Beau and Mallory’s world and of course Asher was the perfect crossover character for this story and hopefully series! The new supporting characters, especially Daphne and Millie, were wonderful. The city of New Orleans is its own mystical, dark, sexy character.
Even if paranormal is not your thing, if Kristen Proby is you’ll still love this! Read it! If you love suspenseful, scary, dark books but have never read Kristen, make this your first read by her. I loved it and I’m ready for more Bayou Magic!!
I have been a Proby fan since Luke and Nat so when she announced she was writing in one of my favorite genres I was ecstatic. I was also super nervous about it too. Paranormal is a hard genre to write and she knocked it out of the park. I can not wait to see how this series plays out.

OMG!!! Loved, loved, loved it. Awesome read!
Oooh. Shadows is the first in a new trilogy from Kristen Proby, and it’s paranormal romance. Perfect time of year for that!
I was so excited to read this book and boy it DID NOT disappoint in anyway!!!!!!!! I don’t even know what to say right now!!!!! That ending???? What did I just read? I certainly did not see that coming!!!!
I lived in NOLA for four years, I can honestly say the stuff that was talked about in here, well when it comes to NOLA tours, I DID THAT ONE! I felt like I was back there, doing the tour again and nodding my head as I went along. So accurate and that is just the side stuff!
Lets move on to the characters! HOLY CRAP! These characters, all of them, made me FEEL! Whether it was hate, love, hotness! It was so good!
Side warning here: some of it was darker than I expected but hang on and sally forth because this books amazing! It was like Heather Graham on steroids! SO DANG GOOD! I can’t wait for the next one in this series!!!
Mysterious.
Suspenseful.
Heartwrenching.
Very descriptive.
I’ve always loved Kristen Proby but she has gone to the next level with this new series.
The only thing that disappointed me was that it wasn’t steamy at all.
This was such a creepy, spooky, thriller. I was creeped out in the best way possible. I was so excited to read this. Brielle and Cash are so cute together, in the beginning you wonder how they are going to be together with all the spooky and creepiness going on. The three sisters are special and have some amazing abilities that I don’t wish on anyone. To see shadows is super creepy. Also the serial killers? What?New Orleans is one spooky place
Okay, so I’ve read quite a few of this authors books, all very romantic, funny, well written, loved them all, so when I was given the opportunity to read her new book, I jumped at the chance. Problem is, I’m not a thriller/scary book kinda gal, I believe in the paranormal , so I tend to stay away from that genre, hits way too close to home for me. I honestly had no idea what Shadows was about, I usually read the synopsis, didn’t with this one, because hey, Kristen Proby wrote it! I knew a few pages in I was in trouble, didn’t think it would be a real big deal, we were just talking about mediums, psychics and witches, I can handle that, although a bit uncomfortable. But then the weird stuff came into play, and you know what, I couldn’t put this damn book down. I honestly have to say, I had to take a few breaks from the story, it’s intense, scary as all get out, my heart pounded throughout the darn book, and I found myself checking around the room because I was so friggen freaked out! As much as I did not want to finish this book once things started to be revealed, I absolutely couldn’t put it down. This is a very well written story, loved Cash and Brielle, her sisters were hysterical, and I hate to admit it, but I truly loved this book. Glad it’s over, but loved every angst ridden, scary word of it. In my opinion, this isn’t for the faint hearted, very graphic in places, gave me the hebbie geebies through the entire book, so for those of you who are like me, you’ve been given your warning. Very well worth the read, just definitely a thriller story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
Kristen Proby’s new paranormal romance set in the mystical city of New Orleans is a hauntingly, action-packed, thriller and romantic story. Shadows is Book 1 in the Bayou Magic series. A definite page-turner!
What’s not to love about a paranormal romance that includes a bevy of supernatural elements, a cast of characters whose complexity and ‘gifts’ add to the allure of the plot and a setting that was made for the spooky and creepiness that resides in its streets, including the unexplained that can be found in every nook and cranny of New Orleans.
Kristen Proby’s new paranormal series, Bayou Magic, centers around three gifted sisters, and their abilities definitely come in handy, not only with where they live, but also due to the sins and crimes that are committed in the Big Easy. The bond that Brielle has with her two sisters is one that will never break, even if it waivers at times or is threatened by outside influencers. They are connected in their gifts, their emotions, and their desire to help those in need.
Shadows is the oldest sister, Brielle’s story, and the way that Proby explains Brielle’s gift of sight when it comes to the ghosts and shadows of the city leads perfectly into the mystery and suspense that resides in the story line. And because Brielle’s ability is one that could lead her down a dangerous path, I’m glad that a certain FBI Agent claimed his place by her side fairly her on in the story, and despite the fact that Cash deals with facts and tangible evidence while Brielle’s strengths stem from otherworldly aspects, they’re a fantastic team who seem fated to be together.
The way Proby brought in varying perspectives of the story line allows readers to truly delve into both the logical and illogical side of the case and of the shadows that Brielle can see in, and the mystery that envelops the plot makes for one hell of a creepy and deadly experience. And, the fact that there are scenes that are highly descriptive and illustrate the true nature of a sadistic murderer, readers can’t help but lose themselves in this world and all the secrets and dangers it holds.
Kristen Proby definitely put me under her spell with her first paranormal romance story, and the fact that Proby took a risk by crafting a different type of romance than what her readers are used to and did so with such creative precision makes her a multifaceted author and one that I will always read.
4.5 Poison Apples
Brielle sees dead people. Yes, just like in that movie. But it’s real. To her the dead are “shadows” without distinct features, (usually), and they don’t bother her or even interact with her. Until just now when one of them tried to actually communicate with her. That was when she knew something very wrong was happening in New Orleans, in her community. She’s got her two sisters, Millie and Daphne, for support, though, and a new guy in her life, Cash, who happens to be an FBI profiler. With their support, she’ll get through this and figure what’s wrong, who’s doing it, and how to fix it. Except perhaps not. Perhaps the person behind it all is far too evil and too gifted in the same sorts of paranormal things that she and her sisters are, for them to stop him. Brielle, Millie, Daphne, and Cash will have to rely on some heavy duty guides if they want to get through this alive.
Wow, I LOVE Shadows!! I don’t do a lot of paranormal reading anymore, but I am really glad I read Shadows. It’s spooky and creepy and truly cringe-worthy. The villain was definitely one of the biggest whack jobs to come down the turnpike in a long time, and I love how Brielle figured out who he was, and who he was to her and her sisters. There’s more than a touch of paranormal here, but it’s not overdone or over the top, and Brielle, her sisters, and Cash and his brother are all fabulous characters. I love the spooky world Kristen has created in the Bayou Magic series, and can’t wait to delve more into it. I am so looking forward to Spells, Millie and Lucien’s story, now!
Ok, but like why did nobody tell me about Kristen Proby?? Holy cow.
Three sisters, paranormal abilities, magic, potions, a hot FBI agent (basically a fated mate), mystery and suspense. What more could I ask for?! NOTHING. I LOVED this story. I loved everything from the writing style to the storyline to the very casual and easy way she dropped magic and spirits and her whole version of that world directly in without pause or apology. So good.
This is Brielle’s story, but she’s got two sisters so you know more is coming and I CAN’T WAIT! If you like your romance with a sweet edge, some paranormal activity and the edge of thriller, this is it for you!
KRISTEN PROBY TAKES A WALK TO THE DARK SIDE
I have never really been “into” paranormal or supernatural books, but I have always loved everything Kristen Proby has ever written, so I was never not going to read SHADOWS…..I just didn’t expect to love it this much….
SHADOWS has a great love story with 3 sisters (I’m thinking at least 3 books in this series)…and some hot guys….and new problems and situations we aren’t accustomed to seeing in this author’s books…..These sweet, lovable sisters have “gifts” which are sometimes a blessing and sometimes a burden…. I loved Cash and Brielle’s chemistry and how he accepts her without judgement, doubts or reservations…..and the book… well, I guess I’m moving toward the “dark side.”…. Don’t pass over this book just because you might not think you are “into pn or sn”……It’s still Kristen Proby…so, obviously, it’s still a good book…
You can’t go wrong with a Kristen Proby romance. Toss in some witches in New Orleans, and it’s a ride you don’t want to miss!
