From New York Times Bestselling Author, Kristen Proby, comes an all new paranormal romance set in the mystical city of New Orleans… way to stay sane. Everything changes the day Cassian Winslow joins my ghost walking tour and knocks my world off its axis with green eyes the color of the stone around my neck.
An unspeakable evil is loose in New Orleans, taking young women and leaving a bloodbath in his wake. More shadows lurking for me. More unhappy dead. There might be a way to stop it.
Open myself up to Cassian.
If I do, it could spell his death.
But if I don’t, it’s mine.

I just wasn’t at all ready for this book to end! This story grabbed me on the first page of the prologue and I couldn’t put it down.
This series is about three sisters with supernatural abilities and Shadows focuses on the oldest sister, Brielle. I don’t want to go into great detail because I like like it’s best if you go in sort of blind, but Brielle finds herself being followed by new Shadows (dead people) and it takes her on a terrifying journey. Kristen did an amazing job with the way everything in this story plays out.
I adored all the characters here! Brielle’s sisters were so much fun and I’m looking forward to their books. The girls are part of a tight knit community that I’d love to read more about. Cash and Brielle were absolutely perfect together and I’m really interested to see where he comes into play in the rest of the series because I feel like there’s more to his story.
This was my first Kristen Proby story and I’m already looking at what I should read next!
This books was creepy AF. But also so very very good! I don’t normally do books that have serial killers in them at least not ones that are quite so intense but this one piqued my interest and wow. It was well written and gripping. I didn’t want to put the book down honestly. It explores a different side of paranormal romance in New Orleans that I haven’t really seen in other PNR books such as how the average medium handles living in one of the most haunted cities in the US. It doesn’t have a ton of the romance scenes in this book which is fine because it has the requisite HEA and that’s all I want out of my books. But it also sets up for the next book in the epilogue and oh man it’s going to be just as creepy and good. It’s a good thing I’m reading this during Halloween season.
A terrifying psychopath is killing young girls and his victims have become Brielles constant companions. His dead victims. Her gift is changing and it’s almost as scary to her as the evil that is hunting in New Orleans. Atleast she has the help of her sisters and the new man in get life Cassian who seems to be taking it all in his stride. It’s paranormal romance with a little horror and darkness and sets the premise nicely for the rest of the series. All in all its a five star read for me!
This book was just what I needed for a spooky October read! It was super creepy and reading the chapters from the serial killers POV was chilling! I loved the 3 sisters and all the paranormal activity. This series is a huge departure from what Kristen normally writes, and she tells you that in the forward. I can’t wait for Spells!
This book has dark themes, I mean, there’s a graphic serial killer involved….so be aware before reading. It’s UBER creepy!
I love Kristen Proby’s writing, literally. Every book of hers is well written, with great storylines and great characters. Her world building is other worldly and honestly, I can’t get enough.
Shadows did not disappoint!
If anything, I loved it more than her other works as it was a much darker read than Kristen’s usual style.
I really enjoyed Mallory’s story, and the paranormal aspect of it all, in the Boudreaux series so I was really excited to see where this book would take us.
When I saw that this was a dark book with paranormal thrown in, I just knew I’d devour it.
And devour it I did!
I read this book in one sitting. No breaks.
The subplot was so eery and creepy and I loved that although this book does have romance, the romance wasn’t the only storyline happening.
I really enjoyed the relationship between Brielle and Cash. It was cute and I was completely engrossed.
I also loved Brielle’s sisters and their powers. I can’t wait to learn more about them in the next books in the series! Bring on Spells!
Thrilling start to a new series! Great cast of characters, terrific setting & fantastic storytelling. This is paranormal romance set in New Orleans, which is the perfect setting, about three sisters talented in the supernatural realm. The oldest, Brielle, sees dead people and is a ghost tour guide. How perfect is that? A serial killer is on the loose and has his sights set on Brielle. Good luck, buddy. Her newest acquaintance is a hunky FBI profiler. Cash is on vacation when he runs across Brielle’s tour. They are smitten at first sight. It’s a little fast and they get cozy quick. Why waste time especially when your sister can read people. Youngest sister, Millie, has some awesome powers and comes to her sister aid when spirits follow Brielle. It’s an exciting, spooky, dangerous thrill ride as Cash and Brielle try to foil the killer and save his victims. I love the sisters in the story with their wicked talents. And what’s not to live about a handsome G man? Can’t wait for the next installment in this spooktacular new series!
A twisted, spooky tale with lots of romance too! Loved this from Kristen Proby!!
I’m just in awe with this book. It’s something that I would totally read, but I wasn’t prepared for everything that transpired. I loved it from the beginning for the instant connection between Cash and Bri to the solving of the murders, right to the end. I didn’t want to put it down at all. All of the twists and turns and the mystery behind every murder. I also loved Bruce sisters Millie and Daphne, they were awesome. There was so much information in the book that I’m sure some or most is quite true from the telling of the haunted places in New Orleans, and believe it or not I’m quite interested in history like that. I also loved the quotes written on here that were said by some murderers, I can’t believe they all said that. I was hoping for a quick read of a wedding but I’m sure I’ll have to wait for that in the next book. I can’t wait to read Millie’s and Lucien’s story in Spells, and I sure hope Daphne’s story is next after that.
I usually avoid creepy books with serial killers but I stuck with it. I hate starting a book and not finishing. If this is your kind of book, you will love it!
Oh My Goodness! I could not read this at night. It’s not just a romance but a suspenseful thriller with magic, ghosts, and so much more. I devoured it and fell in love with Cash and Brielle and the entire paranormal world set here.
A truly fascinating, breathtaking, suspenseful PNR unlike anything I have read before!
The characters are incredible, special and the romance was amazing. I loved the twists and suspense. It was a great read!
I really loved this book and i cant wait for her next one.. a little scarey. Which i loved..very well written…you will not be dissappointed.
Shadows is the first book in the Bayou Magic series by Kristen Proby and let me tell you… The book is soo good and amazing!!!! I don’t read so much paranormal but OMG this book was amazing!! Once I started reading it i couldn’t stop! It caught me from the first chapter!! the storyline about the sisters is amazing and i loved it so much!! Three sisters than share more than blood and all the secrets!!! Everything makes sense in the story i mean is New Orleans so everything is possible there right??
Seriously i dont want to say so much about the book, but if you love romance, paranormal and suspense… YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK ASAP!!! Is soo amazing and i will get you so hook up with the series!!!! I’m so excited to read the second one!!!
Definitely one of my favorite reads of this year!!!!
This book drew me in from the first page and kept me reading until my eyes would no longer remain open. Not at all what I’m used to from Kristen Proby, but just as good as any of the others she’s written. Magical story telling that weaves a spell around its reader, making you read until the book’s finished. A must read if you love magic, spells, witches and a story with a twist.
If you love mysteries mixed in with the supernatural, read this book. The ending was a bit abrupt and left me wanting.
I don’t think there was a single thing about this book that I did not love. The writing, the characters, and the plot were all top notch.
A very twisty, gut-wrenching race to find a killer before being killed. A little magic and a little romance thrown in make it hard to put down. I would enjoy reading more from this series.
I love a good ghost story and this one did not disappoint. The story introduces three sisters: Brielle, Millie, and Daphne. This is Brielle’s story but all three sisters have a role in the story.
Brielle can see ghosts. That makes her job as a haunted tour guide all the more interesting. One night while giving her tour, she sees a shadow that wasn’t there before and one of the tour participants notices her flinch. He’s Cash, a FBI profiler on a forced vacation.
The two are brought together by their attraction, and a serial killer that is obsessed with Brielle.
The story is told from there perspectives: Brielle, Cash, and the killer.
While this didn’t make me want to sleep with the lights on, it did keep me engaged. The ending sets up Millie’s book next.
Couldn’t put it down, loved the New Orleans vibe
I love paranormal romance stories! Bayou Magic, while at times painful and dark, was also full of family, love, and happiness. Let’s face it, if it has magic in it, it’s amazing! I can’t wait for Book 2 in the series!
