From New York Times Bestselling Author, Kristen Proby, comes an all new paranormal romance set in the mystical city of New Orleans… way to stay sane. Everything changes the day Cassian Winslow joins my ghost walking tour and knocks my world off its axis with green eyes the color of the stone around my neck.
An unspeakable evil is loose in New Orleans, taking young women and leaving a bloodbath in his wake. More shadows lurking for me. More unhappy dead. There might be a way to stop it.
Open myself up to Cassian.
If I do, it could spell his death.
But if I don’t, it’s mine.

Okay so I read an early copy of this book and had trouble sleeping at night, it was so so so good, very original, scary, and romantic! Grab it!
I am a HUGE fan of paranormal romance and I am absolutely in love with Proby’s foray into the world of magic, ghosts and the undead. Bone chilling, creepy and haunting, this is a must read for fans of paranormal!
Right from the beginning of the book, the reader is absorbed into this well-crafted swirl of mystery and intriguing suspense. And with every turn of the page the enthralling storyline will bewitch your soul in such a grandiose way that you will be left wanting for more.
This was my first Kristen Proby and I am completely sold. I love when a book completely takes me by surprise, it reminds me why I love to read so much. Ms. Proby takes you on an intense ride. This story is the perfect mixture of my love of crime shows and romance novels. I can not wait for the next book in this series! Hands down one of my favorites of 2019. LOVED IT!!!
A fabulous dive into the paranormal genre and I couldn’t put this book down!
Shadows is the first in an exciting new trilogy!
Kristen Proby is known for her contemporary romances, but I think she’s done a fabulous job with her first paranormal. Brielle is a tour guide in New Orleans. She gives ghost tours, but there’s a twist. She can see the ghosts. She’s hiding from her abilities until the day she meets Cassian, an FBI agent. Together they have to solve the mystery of who’s killing women in the Big Easy. Romantic and scary. Two of my favorite things!
Fascinating characters, sister bonding, and one of the creepiest bad guys ever. Fans of paranormal thrillers will love this!
Loved this book so much couldn’t put it down reminds me of ghost whisper which I also love very much!! I totally will be reading more of this series the author did an amazing job!!! 🙂 I also love a good happy ending and I’m a big fan of books that have magic in them!!!
If you like this genre, I highly recommend, “Shadows”. There were places I laughed out loud and plenty of places I cringed. I loved the setting for the book as well.
What the…… this book is a total departure from Kristen Proby books I’ve read to date and Im not complaining!!
That’s exactly how I felt 1st time I listened to this book narrated by Jason Clarke, Samantha Brentmoor and Lee Samuel’s.
First off, Jason as a serial killer is completely unexpected and mind blowing!!
With book 3 coming out next week, I’m listening to book 2 now so I can jump back into this world Kristen has created.
It’s twisted, more like a PNR thriller than a romance, and soooo freakin good.
If Charmed, Lucifer and Arrow-verse had a baby, it would be this series!!
As really good easy fun read!
I don’t remember much of this book. I read it awhile ago, but I know I really loved reading it.
Loved the story. I have family down in Louisiana and close to New Orleans and it has always fascinated me about their history and all the spirits and witch’s. Thai story was pretty cool in its accuracy about haunted tours and all the old history. Loved the dynamic with the three sisters and how they are racing to stop and evil man who is obsessed with them and hopefully save some girls. Cash was awesome. I liked how despite his clinical training he was very open to the possibility about paranormal things happening. He was a perfect balance to Brielle. Can’t wait for Millie and Daphne’s books.
Shadows book one in the Bayou Magic trilogy by Kristen Proby was her first paranormal romance and let me just say bravo babe, bravo. I’ve been reading PNR books for years and isn’t often you find a first-time author to the genre who executes the story this well while also keeping you 100% drawn into the story.
Brielle is the oldest of three sisters, all of which have the gift of magic. Brielle can see the dead but after years of practice she has been able to live with them where they are not a constant bother. Until one night on her graveyard tour she sees a new “shadow” one that she isn’t used to. This new shadow not only follows her, which is unusual, but it also has face, the face of someone she knows. She knows that this spirit is seeking her help but how can she help when they cannot talk to her?
FBI profiler Cash is visiting New Orleans on a forced vacation after a tough case. Cash is happy to have some time to spend with his brother Andy and sister in law but what he doesn’t expect is to have an instant attraction to his ghost tour guide. After a few brief encounters Cash asks out Brielle but what he ends up with is a bucket load of crazy, or so he thinks. Cash believes that Brielle believes in the things that she sees, but does he? When a serial killer starts targeting Brielle and he starts to see some of the things for himself he can’t help but help out this beautiful woman that he feels a connection to after such a brief time.
This story was INSANE!! I knew it would be a bit eerie or creepy, but this book was downright sinister!! Not only is this book told in Cash and Brielle’s point of view, but it is also told in the killers and his inner monologue is seriously disturbing. I am good with spooky and chilling but at times this book seriously gave me the willies.
Loved the romance between Cash and Brielle and while it was not heavy or even too in depth it was perfect, it felt real. I could feel the passion and love pouring out of these two and that just made this book soooo much better. If you love paranormal romances READ THIS BOOK and if you are thinking of trying out a paranormal romance READ THIS BOOK!! Magic, New Orleans, a seriously delicious hero and three bad ass sisters, what more could you want??
I loved this spooky paranormal romance. Kristen Proby had me wondering if Brielle was going to be able to thwart the dark shadow that is out to get her. And Cass was so loving with her/ I’m excited to move on to book 2.
I was intrigued by this book. I am all in for a good romantic suspense and then add in the paranormal and I am sold! Ms. Proby does a great job of telling the story of 3 sisters and the gifts they have. Brielle is the oldest sister and the obsession of a serial killer. Cash comes to New Orleans and takes Brielle’s tour and is smitten with her. Cash falls hard for the beautiful girl who can see shadows. We get a glimpse at all three sisters and I know that each with get their story. There are twists and turns throughout this story and I was riveted to my seat! It was so good! I can’t wait to get the other stories in this series! Loved it!
This is the first book in the gripping Bayou Magic Trilogy, a Ghost Story, one of my favorite tropes! Wow!! I loved it! Brielle and Cash’s story is original, thrilling, scaring, suspenseful, and enthralling. Impossible to put it down. The story is hauntingly well written. We follow Brielle, Cash and her sisters (Millie and Daphne), and Asher, a local law enforcement, in an intriguing, intense, and frightening quest. Cash and Brielle share an instant attraction, and an undeniable chemistry. Cash is handsome, smart, caring, and protective. Brielle is a formidable character, caring, strong, smart, and determined. Each sister is gifted. Brielle can see the unquiet dead, Millie is a powerful hedgewitch and psychic, and Daphne is a psychic and a psychometric. I like their family bonds. The terrifying serial killer is fearsome. Each character is well developed, and intriguing. The scenery is particularly well described, gothic and chilling. Samantha Brentmoor, Jason Clarke and Lee Samuels did a fantastic, and an impressive job with the narration. Samantha Brentmoor and Lee Samuels are perfect as Brielle and Cash. Jason Clark is devilishly believable, creepy, and dreadful, as the serial killer. They breathtakingly bring this story to life. This is an amazing audio production, and a formidable team author/narrators. I enjoyed it, and I HIGHLY recommend it. If you like Paranormal Romance, in particular Ghost Stories, this one is definitely for you! Now, I can’t wait to listen to the next book in the Series, Spells, Millie’s story.
This is a must read!
I’m not huge on paranormal, but I do like some stories that will creep me out and take me out of my norm. The fact that Kristen Proby wrote it was a plus. The cover and the title for Shadows were on point for the plot. It would’ve been a great October read/listen, but I’ll take it in January. I really enjoyed the three sisters, their connection to one another and their separate abilities that complemented them. And set in New Orleans? How could the setting be more perfect for the story??
A little spooky, a bit of magic and some twisted darkness.
And we can’t have a Proby story without some romance. Even if this is a bit more on the darker side, we do get it between Cash and Brielle. Brielle is the oldest of the sisters and Cash is visiting his brother and ends up on Brielle’s ghost tour. It’s an instant sort of connection between them happening right from the get go. I didn’t 100% feel it between them, but there was something there, just didn’t feel it coming off the pages. Their connection fell flat and felt more like I was being told I should feel their attraction. The journey and the shadows story was compelling and exciting. THAT was what I was here for! I liked that we were trying to figure out who and why. But the plus for me? I loved that we got Jason Clarke as the ‘dark side’. His voice really drew me into that character and the darkness of him. The narrators performed the 3 characters well and I can’t wait to see what will be in store for the other 2 sisters.
While this is a standalone within a series and has a very clear ending for Brielle and Cash, it still left me wanting more of what’s to come. I can’t wait to get back to New Orleans and see what’s in store for the sisters next.
