From New York Times Bestselling Author, Kristen Proby, comes an all new paranormal romance set in the mystical city of New Orleans… way to stay sane. Everything changes the day Cassian Winslow joins my ghost walking tour and knocks my world off its axis with green eyes the color of the stone around my neck.
An unspeakable evil is loose in New Orleans, taking young women and leaving a bloodbath in his wake. More shadows lurking for me. More unhappy dead. There might be a way to stop it.
Open myself up to Cassian.
If I do, it could spell his death.
But if I don’t, it’s mine.

Kristen Proby is a wonderful author and writer, this is not new… I am not a huge fan of paraonormal romance novels, it is really not my favorite style, but I have to give it to her… Shadows is a wonderful start of a new series and it is a very good book.
The dynamics between the sisters and how the character of Brielle is built is so good! Cash is also a strong character and ready to face this challenge that is ahead of them. It is so good that I will not spoil it for you since the book is just like a movie and you will be thrill and engaged in this spooky and unerving story.
I really love it and recommend it!
It has been proven! Kristen Proby can do no wrong. Holy wow! Shadows was an intensely chilling and utterly captivating story and I loved every single second of it.
Firstly, the backdrop of New Orleans for the story was fantastic. It bathed everything in another layer of mystery yet made the story feel tangible and for a paranormal romance that’s saying something. I adored all three sisters, but of course, Brielle was my favorite. I loved how each had their own very distinct power, but fit so well with each other. Like pieces of a magical puzzle. Then we have Cash. From his sexy af name to his sexy af protective streak, the man was all swoons and deliciousness. My only complaint was the ending and that’s just because I NEED THE NEXT BOOK IMMEDIATELY!!
All in all Shadows was such an incredible PNR debut for Kristen Proby. I can’t stress how spot on everything in this story was. If you’re in the mood for fantastic PNR with tons of mystery, suspense, and of course romance, YOU MUST READ THIS!! 10 stars.
If you’re a fan of Charmed, Ghost Whisperer, or Hotel Del Luna, I’m pretty sure you will enjoy this book in term of supernatural/ghostly – mystery & thriller aspects. The fact that this book released near Halloween made it perfect for a Halloween read.
I read this book in one sitting. Yes!! The plot is that interesting. The story and character development were done really well and on point. It exceeded my expectation.
The characters are full of charms. The antagonist is beyond crazy.
The story centers around Brielle. Brielle can see/feel shadows though later she’s not only can see shadows, she can also see their appearances. It happenned after feminine spirits following her and began haunting her dreams. Those spirits were asking for her help because they were murdered. You’ll be asking why Brielle? In NOLA I’m pretty sure Brielle is not the only person who’s “sensitive” of spirits. That’s when things got interesting. You will know how Brielle was connected in this brutal serial killer murders.
I would give all the stars for this book but the romance fell short for my taste.
Brielle and Cash met at one of Brielle’s ghost tour. Cash found Brielle interesting and kept bumping into her a few times. Their romance supposedly insta-love. I do love insta love but this book is lack of foundation for insta-love.
Also, it was told that somehow Brielle and Cash felt like they knew each other way before they met, like, perhaps they knew each other from their past lives. This kind of thing usually caught my heart right away, but unfortunately, I couldn’t feel the chemistry between Brielle and Cash. I was craving for more. I would have read and enjoyed this book even without romance anyway.
Unlike her other books, this one is full of mystery, and the three Landy sisters have to join forces if they want to beat an even more powerful wizard.
Brielle, Millie, and Daphne are sensitive, and they discovered it in their childhood when they began to see “shadows” around the house.
Over time, they have learned to deal with this power, but not thanks to their parents. In fact, her father “disappeared” one day – and Brielle came to see his ghost, and as for her mother, she always blamed the girls when they mentioned anything about it.
At eighteen, Brielle asked custody of the sisters (her mother was negligent) and it was from there that they sought help in dealing with what they had.
The years wet by, and each one of them chose their profession.
Brielle, the main character of this book, is a ghost tour guide in the city of New Orleans, specifically in the French Quarter.
This tour is done at night, visiting haunted houses.
One of these nights, the tour was normal – with Brielle seeing the usual ghosts – when two things happened: 1) there was a beautiful tourist, with green eyes the same color as the malachite stone she carried around her neck (for protection), and , 2) A new ghost has appeared.
This time the ghost of a young woman asked Brielle for help in finding her.
On subsequent nights, new “shadows” appear at Brielle’s door (they didn’t enter her house because she was ‘protected’), and at the same time the chemistry between her and the tourist exploded.
Cassien Winstow, known as Cash, worked for the FBI. He wasn’t in town on business, he was on vacation (after working on a particularly difficult case).
He was charmed by Brielle from the first moment; and though she said she was a history graduate with a major in creole history, he knew that her knowledge of the supernatural subject was a little deeper than she admitted.
With the serial killings of young women in town, Cash is on hand to help define the killer’s profile. And at the same time, he could protect Brielle.
Soon Cash discovered that her sisters also had their peculiar powers – as many friends in town, especially Miss Sophia, a very knowledgeable and powerful lady who had anticipated the meeting of the “six”.
—————–
If you are not afraid of supernatural reading, you will enjoy this new novel, with a lot of magic and information.
Kristen researched a great deal not only about New Orleans culture, but about supernatural powers.
The enemy here (can you figure out who he is?) Is strong and his motive is a surprise.
The author is known for her happy ending novels, but the difference here is that although she has romance, the focus is on the mystery and resolution of the case.
All the characters are interesting
It seems that the next book is about her middle sister, Millie, the witch-cook, who owns a cafe called Witch Brew, where she sells drinks with potions, including the most famous love potion.
5 stars
Five stars are not enough for Shadows! Wow! I already need book two! One of my favorite authors writing about my favorite city – YES PLEASE! Creepy and twisty! This book is everything I didn’t know I wanted it to be! LOVED!!!
Great book, the characters are likable and the story is very entertaining. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I could not wait to find out what was going to happen next. I can not wait for the next one!
Shadows just became my all time favorite Kristen Proby book. This is more than just a romance; it’s a psychological mind twist that will have you questioning the sounds your home makes in the middle of the night. The level of character development – not just between Brielle and Cash but between the sisters – is fabulous from start to finish.
Eagerly anticipating book 2!
This story blew my mind! Kristen has taken this new series to soaring heights! 5 magic stars for this one! Great start to a new series!
In this book you will meet the oldest of three girls, Brielle, and learn about the powers she has as well as her sisters powers. And when she meets Cash on one of her ghost tours, she figures he will run when he find out the truth about her, but will he?
I will not give you more as I feel this book needs to be read and experienced while you’re reading it! Hold on tight, maybe don’t read it at night, or heck go for it! Enjoy and I can’t wait for the next one in this series!!
Just in time for Halloween! Shadows by Kristen Proby is a hair-raising paranormal romance that is just perfect. Set in New Orleans (one of the most haunted cities in this great country) the story takes place and is centered around three sisters that all have some type of spiritual abilities. The book is very well written and will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat and looking over your shoulder. Leaving off on a cliffhanger I feel the following books in the Bayou Magic series will be around each on of the sisters and the new romantic interests in their lives. 5-spooky ghosts for Shadows by Kristen Proby.
Brielle Landry runs a ghost walking tour in New Orleans and can see the ghosts that she is telling about. As mere shadows to Brielle, she has a routine to follow so she never comes across any surprises through out her day. Cassien (Cash) Winslow is an FBI agent on mandatory leave after a long running case. Coming to New Orleans, to visit his brother, Cash meets Brielle, the beautiful brunette that gave him a ghost tour. Things quickly become unusual for the agent when Brielle tells him she can see two dead girls on the street in front of her apartment, one of them from her tour. Cash can’t walk away from the stunning woman even if she sees dead people and one of her sister’s is a witch and the other a psychometric reader. Bodies of women start appearing and Cash is invited to help the local police find a serial killer that is hunting in the streets of New Orleans and seems to pick victims that look just like Brielle. Cash is determined to make sure Brielle doesn’t become another one of the Shadows on a ghost tour.
Shadows is a story a bit out of Kristen Proby’s “normal world.” It takes you to New Orleans, LA, into the world of witches, warlocks, and magic. For those of you who loved Kristen’s book “Easy Magic,” that was a small appetizer into this world. Shadows takes you all the way in, more so that I thought it would. It is wonderfully written and tastefully told. I say this because books about paranormal subjects can be hokey and a bit cheesy. Also, there is a serial killer. I am all for mystery in a book. In fact, I crave it. Parts of this story are told in the killer’s POV. When I discovered this I had the same feeling one would get on a roller coaster at the top of the first big hill. I was afraid it would be too much. While there is some graphic detail, it was nothing I couldn’t handle. The story POV does jump around, but I love that in a book. It also does end in a bit of a cliffhanger with the promise of 2 more books to follow. All in all I loved this book. Kristen writes “horror” and “paranormal” like she’s been at it for years. Well done!
This is brilliant !!
I’m in shock at how much I luvd this book. I was a lil scared when I read the blurb for this book. Normally when it comes to this author I never have to. But when there is PNR mentioned I just don’t go near it. It’s really not my thing but this book was amazing. It’s not really PNR with shifters and vampires it’s more witches and powers really. Which I didn’t mind at all and it was written so well so that really helped. I just luvd the story and the characters in so glad I have this book a go.
This book is Brielle’s book and she is the older sister out of the 3. All the sisters have different strength and together they are really strong. I luv how close they are and at time it is hard on them but they protect each other the best way they can. Brielle is a great character I really liked her straight away and the connection together her and Cash is strong straight away I really liked there Insta luv. They were so protective of each other from the start. But there was an evil goin around that needed to be stopped. And between them both they were taking it down no matter what they had to do.
Cash is a profiler for the FBI and has seen some scary stuff but what’s happening around the Bayou is crazy. When he finds out that Brielle is getting dragged into he has to protect her. But Brielle is super independent her life has been easy. Her and her sister have been throw so much it’s scary to think they had to deal on there own. But these sisters are the strongest women ever and they will fight whatever they have to with Cash right be there side. No one will take this perfect woman away from no matter what.
I luvd this book so so much. Everything about it was really good I couldn’t get enough of the story and the characters. I’m really looking forward to more from this series. Like I said I don’t do PNR and I wouldn’t really call this book PNR to be honest. It’s still not made me want to try PNR again it just isn’t my thing. But I knew I would enjoy this book from this author. Her writing is brilliant the detail in it from the start to the end was so good. I’m so glad I read this book and didn’t leave. I would of kicked myself if I hadn’t given it a try. I would highly recommend it.
Speechless!! This book was BEYOND fabulous! Brielle is amazing and what she can see. And then with the powers of her sisters….. do yourself a favor ….get this one right away! Kristen has never disappoint in a book she has written!!!
Let me start off by saying “I DON’T READ PARANORMAL”; however, when I read the blurb about Shadows I was so intrigued that I HAD to read, plus……HELLO…..it’s Kristen Proby. Wow… this book was suspenseful, eerie, spellbinding, I consumed page after page of this story not wanting to STOP! The twists and turns that unfold were heart-stopping, mind-blowing and jaw-dropping; needless to say this book NEEDS to be read! I can’t wait for the next book because that ending was like WTF!!!!
Absolutely blown away!!
I am not a paranormal type of girl… but this book had me hooked! Read it in one sitting. Might have regret that I started at 8pm and the house was dark…. but it was so good!!
Shadows, even being PNR had the typical Kristen Proby family dynamic that I adore! I loved getting to meet each of these sisters and their gifts.
The detail in this book was amazing! I felt like I was in the French quarter with Brielle and Cash.
I will reread this one again for sure! Can not wait for more in the Bayou Magic world!

Kristen Proby has outdone herself with Shadows!! This book was beyond anything I could’ve imagined. It is so unlike anything I have ever read before or from Kristen Proby.
I am not a huge paranormal fan. I have read a few other paranormal stories, but they usually aren’t for me. But knowing one of my all time favorite authors was venturing out into something new, I just knew I had to give it a try. I am so glad I did, this book was FANTASTIC. I think Kristen has a terrific future writing in this genre. I loved seeing a new side to Kristen’s writing. I am excited for what’s to come next!!!!
Shadows really took me out of my comfort zone, not only because it is a paranormal story, it was also because the subject matter was both creepy and bone chilling. Some parts were hard to read but that just makes this book that much better. If you aren’t a fan of paranormal stories, I think you should still give this a try. It isn’t like other paranormal stories that I have read….there aren’t any vampires or werewolves 😉 I will say that the basis of this story really makes the reader think while reading this book. I have always wondered if things like this really happen??
Shadows is not what I would consider a standalone novel. It is the first book in Kristen’s new series, but I believe this is a series that will NEED to be read in order. We get an ending to this story per say , but in the epilogue Kristen ends it with a to be continued ending. She sets up the next book in this series. I am DYING to get the next book.
In Shadows we meet three sisters, Brielle, Millie and Daphne. This book focuses more on Brielle’s story, but Millie and Daphne play a huge part in this book as well. I absolutely loved the bond between the sisters.
Now don’t get me wrong, yes this is a paranormal story but it is also a romance book. This book has an AMAZING romantic suspense element to it. It will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through. I don’t want to say too much about this book, you really should go in blind and just enjoy how this whole story unfolds.
This is definitely a book I could go on and on about. I can’t recommend this book enough!! I know I will be reading this book again in the future. I don’t feel that this review does this book justice, so I will just say…. ADD this book to your TBR list NOW!!! Actually put it on the top of that list. You will want to read this book as soon as it releases!!! Trust Me!!!
Definitely my favorite of 2019 so far!!!
Holy heck. This is the best book I’ve read in a long time! I was nervous going in, because I don’t read much paranormal and I tend to stay toward the lighter side in my reads. However, I love a good romantic suspense and I love Kristen Proby’s writing. This book is just the best of all of those worlds combined. It was intriguing and fast paced. I couldn’t put it down! Cash and Brielle were amazing characters on their own and even better together!
A Perfect Fall Book!
My first paranormal romance in several years.I used to read paranormal romance quite a bit.
This was a great return to the genre. I love Kristen Proby’s books anyways but this is the first book in a new paranormal series. I could not read this book fast enough. Then was so sad when I finished haha .. Which usually calls for a reread. 🙂
The characters are fantastic and so interesting. This was an amazing set up to this great new Kristen Proby world. I love the three sisters so much. I can not wait to hear the rest of their stories and find out more of their powers.
Shadows was such edge of my seat story. It gave me the chills in the best possible way. It really reminds me of Nora Roberts paranormal books. Which were always my favorite.
Fans of the Boudreaux series will especially love this book with the fun of seeing some character favorites. 🙂
Let me preface this by stating that paranormal books are not a subgenre that I gravitate toward. While I find the idea of ghosts and the unknown interesting, generally I’m not a fan of being scared out of my mind (although I do like a good mystery). That being said, because Kristen Proby wrote Shadows- and I devour anything written by her- I had to give Shadows a shot. And oh my gods, I am so glad that I did! In true Proby fashion, I fell in love with the characters, and the plot sucked me in! While the paranormal aspect of the story was done extremely well, the love story that was woven in really brought the whole story together.
I have a newfound respect for the paranormal romance genre. I will most certainly consider more books in this genre, and can honestly say, I cannot wait for the next story in Kristen Proby’s Bayou Magic series (yay for Millie’s story!!)!
Brielle see dead people. Yup said that! Her sisters have abilities as well.
Cash, while on vacation, takes one of Brielle’s tours and knows he just met someone special. He just didn’t realize how special she was.
Now the sisters need to figure out what is going on and put a stop to it!
Absolutely loved this book. I can’t wait for the rest of the series!
