I’m lost in the woods… back.
When dire circumstances force brilliant Dani to return to the seaside village where she grew up and faced near-constant ridicule, she needs to prove that her tormentors didn’t win.
Notorious bad-boy, Max, keeps rescuing Dr. Waters from precarious situations, but the curvy stunner seems immune to his charm––even when a tragic fire and the local fugitive bring Dani, Max, and their entire coastal Maine town together in surprising ways.
Will these delightful, damaged characters be able to heal each other and embrace love or will the dark shadows of their pasts destroy them? Find out in Shadowed Rubies.

This is the first book I’ve read from Ann Omasta. I loved the characters and the story.
Young vet and firefighter fall in love again after many years.
An easy read as main characters find their way to each other.
I just listened to this book on Audible. It is part of a three book set. Books 4-6 in the Brunswick Bay Harbor Gems series. This is the first one I have read and I was not lost at all. Can definitely be a standalone read.
I love it when the author does the narration. Ms.Omasta does a wonderful job performing these characters. She knows all the feels and portrays them to perfection.
This story of Max, a firefighter and Dani, a doctor is very entertaining. Max secretly crushed on Dani since high school. Dani, however, experienced bullying because of her “curves” and her smarts. Now they meet up again in their small town. Loved Max’s patience. Loved the family dynamics. Loved the small town vibe. Loved the humor!
The finale leads into the next book. I’m off to experience it next.
Being Directionally Challenged Pays Off
Suspense, drama, family, love, silly antics, long-term crushes realized, and new beginnings all make up the book. It reads easily, even if it gets a wee bit cray-cray on occasion.
I like Dani and her directionally challenged ways. She’s book smart but couldn’t find her way out of a paper bag. It is a flaw that humanizes her. She’s got some other baggage to conquer… and boy does she!
As for Max, he’s definitely swoon worthy! He’s sweet, kind, patient, and willing to go to the ends of the earth to make Dani happy. And Bruiser quickly trusts him which is a big deal.
Another thing I really like are their families and how easily they seemed to snap into place to create a welcoming, cohesive extension. It’s endearing and wonderful.
UPDATED 6/2021:
I added audio to the experience and loved revisiting Brunswick Bay Harbor. The narrator was none other than Ann Omasta, the author. She initially started focused on enunciation but quickly became relaxed on the mic. There were some stilted moments but, on the whole, it was an enjoyable listening experience.
Now, for my most common… desire (as it’s really not a complaint). A male narrator to go opposite Ann would have been ideal. There. I said it.
Story: 4 stars
Narration: 3 stars
You should never give up – one day it will happen.
Dani and Max have both been longing for each other since long time…
A sweet romance with some trouble in between. The chemistry between them were sparkling.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book
This is book 4 in the Brunswick Harbor series and I would definitely recommend reading the first three books before this one. This is the story of Meg’s best friend and Dean’s sister, Danica, her dog Bruiser and Molly’s brother, Max.
Dani decides to go for a walk in the woods to clear her head and unfortunately forgets that she has no sense of direction so she gets lost. As she is searching for bars on her cell phone she receives a staticky call from Meg saying that her apartment is on fire. Dani is able to tell her that Bruiser is inside, but that’s it before she is knocked in the head and kidnapped.
Meg relays to her firefighter friend that Danica’s dog is still inside the apartment, so Max goes into rescue it even though he has sort of a fear of dogs. Poor Max is all psyched out expecting a huge dog and instead he encounters on of the smallest dogs he has ever seen. Once the fire is fully put out and the clean up work begins, everyone is notified that Dani is missing in the woods and now they will start a search and rescue.
Max can’t help but want to join in the search and he decides to also call in his ornery kid sister, Molly to help. Meg soon has everyone assigned to search different areas and then the hunt is on. What happens when someone else suddenly turns up missing from the search. You will be on the edge of your seat trying to figure this one out and in waiting for the next book. I am so loving this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Shadowed Rubies (Brunswick Bay Harbor Gems # 4) was another great read by Ann Omasta. Danica moved away from Brunswick Bay Harbor but finds herself moving back to her hometown. Max is a firefighter who always seems to rescue Dani when she needs him. He rescues her another time when she is lost in the woods. The town’s infamous kidnapper finds her and max helps save her. I can’t wait to read more by Ann Omasta.
Great job by Ann Omasta was a terrific read I couldn’t put it down. I read it in 3 days as it was so riveting. Can’t wait for the next one in the series
I have really fallen in love with Ms. Omasta’s Brunswick Bay Harbor series and this installment does not disappoint. Max and Dani are so great together as a couple. Both are warm, compassionate, and realistic characters. The storytelling was so compelling and descriptions so vivid that I really felt part of the story. Though the book is primarily a romance, there is plenty of action and plot twists to satisfy lovers of suspense thrillers. It’s a heartwarming story that will leave you with a happy feeling when you’ve finished. You do not want to miss this one!

This is the 4th book in the Brunswick Bay Harbor series. I really liked Dani and Max. Their story is well written with romance, suspense, and drama. It is a great continuation to the series and you won’t be disappointed.
Dani is back in town for a short while and unfortunately she is in for some bad luck of a fire, a kidnapping and finally having to decide what she really wants in life… She and Max have always been attracted to each other but have never acted on it and then Dani left town, but now after he rescues her ferocious (lol) dog from a fire and she gets kidnapped they decide life is too short however both are hopeless at grabbing the bull by the horns at times and nothing is ever straight forward. Loved the amount of up and downs as well as uncertainty and laughter and everything else in this book and makes a fantastic addition to the series!
Deeply Rooted Love Story
Clever, yet psychotic madman, Kevin Durley, has been terrorizing our favorite coastal town of Brunswick Bay for quite some time. His ability to avoid capture is mind-boggling.
Three more incidents have recently occurred. A female hiker has been reported missing, Mimi’s Dinner has been destroyed by fire and now another woman has disappeared. Could this solely be the work of the elusive fugitive or is there another danger lurking?
This action packed book contains plenty of danger and drama for the avid suspense thriller reader; though the heart of the story is a deeply rooted love story. The story-line also highlights the constant struggles of insecurity one faces when they’ve experienced bullying and humiliation in their lifetime.
All of the books in the Gem series are captivating page turners, but “Shadowed Rubies” possesses
such depth in each of the characters. By the time you finish reading, you feel like a family member wanting to pitch in and help everyone.
Ann Omasta, I’m ready for the next installment. I’m one of your biggest Fans!

Max’ day does not start well. It starts with a fire in town and as a first responder that means hard work. Just when he finishes clean-up at the sight he is told that he has to help find the owner of the apartment that burnt down, Danica, who seems lost in the woods. As if that would not have been enough, his sister goes missing while searching for Danica. Worried about the women he starts his rescue mission seriously.
A thrilling start to the story, which continues the Brunswick Bay Harbor Saga, picking up where SHIMMERING EMERALDS ended.
The storyline continues to be interesting and with the recurring characters and problems Brunswick Bay Harbor is facing each individual book is bound in the tapestry of the greater story….

Shadowed Rubies is the fourth book in the Brunswick Bay Harbor Gems series.

Dani a physician, is heading to her hometown to be with her mother after her father’s death. While in Brunswick Bay Dani’s life takes on some crazy twists ending with her getting help from a firefighter named Max. Turns out they knew each other years before and even had crushed on each other never letting the other know. This is a well written, heartbreakingly beautiful story and a definite page turner.
