I’m lost in the woods… back.
When dire circumstances force brilliant Dani to return to the seaside village where she grew up and faced near-constant ridicule, she needs to prove that her tormentors didn’t win.
Notorious bad-boy, Max, keeps rescuing Dr. Waters from precarious situations, but the curvy stunner seems immune to his charm––even when a tragic fire and the local fugitive bring Dani, Max, and their entire coastal Maine town together in surprising ways.
Will these delightful, damaged characters be able to heal each other and embrace love or will the dark shadows of their pasts destroy them? Find out in Shadowed Rubies.

Dani’s story was really great. Some unexpected twists and turns. I loved getting to know Molly better and can’t wait for her HEA. I’m super pumped about the cliffhanger at the end of this book and excited for the next book!

Good addition to a romance series laced with action and suspense
I really like the way author Ann Omasta has created this small-town series by melding traditional romance with a bit of thriller and suspense that moves you from one couple’s story to the next. The characters reappear, but they are not getting too numerous to follow and it’s nice to see some of the earlier romances progress, like this heroine’s brother Dean enjoying fatherhood.
Doctor Dani, the heroine in this romance, starts in a high adrenaline situation and finds her way to dealing with entrenched body image issues and the belief that she’s not good enough for firefighter Max. Their history in a town where, even not socializing, everyone knows each other and attends the same school, gave a good basis for the romance’s quick acceleration. Add in some cute and not so cute animals (sorry, Mr. Opossum, but you are not exactly cuddly!) and supportive, close family and the story is warm, with minimal romantic angst and a really enjoyable addition to the series.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
The Brunswick Bay Harbor Gem series by Ann Omasta continues with Shadowed Rubies. This latest installment features Dr. Danica Waters and Max Malone. The two have been acquainted since childhood, and Max has secretly had a crush on Dani his entire life.
The book starts with two melodramatic events that push Dani and Max together. While Dani’s self-consciousness makes her wary of letting any of her hometown contemporaries into her life, she eventually relents and goes on a date with Max. A misunderstanding leads to angst that is quickly and easily resolved.
Good storytelling, perfect plot tension and pace, and likable characters make Ms. Omasta’s latest novella an easy read. Max and Dani are both empathetic characters, and they make a cute, fun couple. Readers who are familiar with the series, will enjoy the inclusion of the wide cast of Brunswick Bay Harbor characters we’ve become familiar with in this series. Ms. Omasta truly made me feel like I was a part of this small seaside village in Maine.
The books in this series can be read as standalones, but each contains an ending that is a clear segue to the next book in the series.
This is part of a series but is fine read without the others. This story of Dani and Max who have had crushes on each other since high school but neither thought they were good enough. The story begins with an abduction by the town’s mentally disturbed resident and the subsequent escape/rescue. The interactions between them are strained due to their lack of confidence. The characters are very real, no one is perfect. Fortunately there is a happy ever after. I’m looking forward to the next in this series.

When the mysterious Kevin Durley shows up again while Dani is lost on a hike, lots of action takes place. Molly, ex girlfriend to her brother Dean, turns up to help in the search due to the badgering of her brother Max, and Molly ends up as the next victim.
Danger, confronting present and past fears, and crazy romance collide. Did I mention wacky small town family connections?
An exciting read!

Fighting the past, Dani heads home to help with her dad’s death but finds she is fighting a future with Max as some thing are not what they seemed…then Max is fighting to save all their lives. Another great book in the Brunswick Bay series!!!
Wow, another excellent book in the Brunswick Bay Harbor Gems series. Another well written book filled with twists and turns. The chemistry between Max and Dani is so hot, I love small town romances and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. I received an ARC of this book and am under no obligation to give it a good review. For me I loved it and would give it 5 stars, I certainly would recommend it to others.
If like me you have read and enjoyed the previous books in the series then you are not going to want to miss Dani and Max story it was another good well-written book that will suck you in and keep you hooked right until the very end, with plenty of twists this is a great addition to the series,

I didn’t connect with the writing and structure of the book. Just not my cup of tea.
Max and Danny had been in love since they were in High School but they didn’t know about each other feelings. But a fire and a kidnapping may bring them together, will they finally realise their true feelings? Ann makes a good job with the audiobook
Dani, a physician and best friend of Meg in book 3, returned to Brunswick Bay Harbor to help care for her ill father. Dani faced near-constant ridicule while growing up, and she needs to prove that her tormentors did not win. She is lost in the woods and found by the town’s infamous kidnapper. Notorious firefighter Max rescues Dani. She seems immune to Max’s charms. A fire at her apartment, the local fugitive, and Dani’s rescue bring the entire town together in surprising ways. – I liked the first three books in this series, but this one was slow. I did not really feel the chemistry between Dani and Max. I am glad that a mystery from the first book was resolved. You do not need to read books 1-3 before reading this book.
Although the series is great and the storyline is exciting, I have trouble with the gutter language and explicit sex in the book.
So much could be done with this book to include more people reading the author’s books. It could so easily fall into the category of Cozy Mystery/Sweet Romance if just a few changes were made.
4.0 out of 5 stars Very good story!

I was immediately swept into this interesting story. There were plenty of characters to like and dislike, the setting was homey, and the mystery was good. I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
When Dean’s sister Dani and his ex-girlfriend Molly get kidnapped by the same man who held Claire prisoner for a year, Brunswick Bay Harbor launches a full scale search to find them – a search that has special implications for fire fighter Max Molloy who has had a crush on Dani since they were in high school and who is Molly’s big brother.
It’s a crazy, mixed up mess, but if you’re a fan of the Brunswick Bay series, you’ve come to expect that and you’re likely to be as glad to see all the old crew as I was.
Shadowed Rubies was a great, sweet romance with just enough danger and suspense to keep it interesting.
