“‘We are who we are…mortal or god we cannot change that. But we can change what that means.'”
All actions have consequences. It’s part of living. We all know that…well, sort of. If the gods of myth interacted with the world today, just what might be the outcome? Without spoilers for the first book, or this one, it’s hard to even sketch out what might happen. Just say , there is family of chance and family of choice and, in the end, which one do you choose?
This book simply blew me away! It might be a bit tedious in the beginning, but hang on! I haven’t read book 1:”Silent Pantheon” but I bought it about 3/4 of the way through this. I love the chutzpah of Jane and that even the worst of these characters has some redemption in them. Well Done Eric Nierstedt. You might write for YA, but this 60+ loves your work. Highly Recommended. 5/5
[disclaimer:I received this book as a gift and voluntarily read and reviewed it]
The gods of Silent Pantheon are hunting the human world for mortals with the reborn souls of gods within them. But they aren’t the only ones. Shadowy forces are reforming after a recent defeat and they are determined it won’t happen a second time. Will the Gods be victorious or will demons from the past set fire to the world?
Shadow Pantheon is a great young adult novel that has a unique storyline – thankfully without vampires or werewolves – with a great cast of characters, and the ultimate battle between good and evil.
I didn’t read the first novel in the Pantheon series, but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of Shadow Pantheon at all. I will be going back to read it very soon though, as I would love to know how the Silent Pantheon gods beat armageddon in the first installation and how it leads to the event in book two.
In retrospect I thought the plot for this book was very well thought out and flowed well. It all seems quite a mystery as the pieces come together but they do indeed come together very nicely toward the end. The characters are mostly established in the first book but continue to develop in this second instalment so even without the first you are still able to understand them individually and enjoy them. I really enjoyed this fantasy and the aspect of different worlds coming together as one.
New Jersey author Eric Nierstedt writes articles on music and pop culture events and also writes for COMICVERSE.com. His previously published books include THE LIGHTRIDER JOURNALS trilogy, an epic fantasy. The PANTHEON Saga opened with SILENT PANTHEON, and now the mythological tale proceeds with SHADOW PANTHEON.
With a keen sense of mystery Eric opens with a Prologue set in Gettysburg, PA – “This is a place of echoes. Once, two brothers warred against each other here. The blades of grass reverberated with the screams of the dead and dying. The ground absorbed their screams as it did their blood. Even the silence when battle ended left an echo with it, a dark tone that hung over every uttered sound since.’ Mood established well!
We live in a time when the tenor is trying, the realities of darkness even block the warmth of the sun as we face terror and mass shootings and inequalities and melting icebergs and burning hills and the corona virus pandemic and insensitive governing. Perhaps that is one reason why this excellent series by Eric Nierstedt is so welcome – a refreshing reminder that faith is an anchor that keeps us from sinking.
Is it imperative to read Volume One first? No, but it definitely enhances the joy of this second book. The PANTHEON saga is peopled by gods whose presence brings substance and meaning to the mechanisms of the universe. The synopsis of this mythologically oriented tale outlines the concept: ‘Months after saving the world from Armageddon, the forgotten gods of the Silent Pantheon learn their actions had an unforeseen consequence. Now, they must travel across America with new allies, to find mortals blessed with a special gift—the reborn soul of a god. But they are not alone. Dark forces are returning from the dust, brought back by a shadowy god whose name has never truly been forgotten. As each side gathers their forces, the Silent Pantheon must confront their pasts, so they can battle their demons in the present. But the dark ones have a secret. And for two of the Pantheon, it will tear their souls asunder.’
Writing of this caliber is rare – and reading this very fine book reassures us that there is meaning to it all. This is a fine blend of mythology and faith, a book to treasure. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed this fantasy book. I thought the characters were well established and were so interesting. The back stories for each of them were fascinating and I liked the way they interlinked. The plot was great, it kept my interest throughout the book and the ending was well thought out.
