I absolutely enjoyed all 3 of the books in this series and recommended them to several of my friends who have gone on to read the books themselves. Great story and fast-paced read.
this book seemed rushed to end the series. It was okay.
History comes to life in this page-turning, suspense-filled historical by Harkness. It was great seeing Christopher Marlowe, the Virgin Queen, Sir Walter Raleigh, and others living and breathing within the pages of this story as Matthew and Diana live among them searching for the book of life. I do not wish to give anything away so I will stop there, but I do recommend this second book in the All-Souls Trilogy.
Just simply one of the very best of its genre. Great story and characters. I’ve reread it and I don’t generally do that.
The All Souls Trilogy is truly captivating. Magic, romance, and family drama.
Great second book of series. Waited for each one to come out and read it in record time. Great characters and development.
Written by a woman who knows how to write about a complicated subject and make it entertaining.
I thoroughly enjoy this author. All of the books in the trilogy were unique and interesting.
Deborah Harkness captures the imagination and builds an enitirely believable world around the characters in this series.
Not bad but I had difficulty holding on through the second half.
I never thought I would enjoy a vampire book, other than Stocker’s but this was so much fun that I am planning on reading the 2nd book of the trilogy.
The amazing trilogy continues! Such an entertaining book that it started to interfere with my daily life. I can’t wait for the next one. Deborah Harkness is a genius at plot and character development.
Loved the final book in the trilogy.
I read Discovery of Witches several years ago–when I began book 2 I found it dull compared to book 1 and gave up–trying again I’ve found that once you get past the beginning the books flows well. And I’ve heard that book 3 is even better. The characters are well-drawn, the story is intelligent and captivating–this is a vampire story I can deal with in a world filled with bad ones.
Diana and Matthew travel back to 1590 to look for Ashmole 782 and to find someone to help Diana discover her magic and teach her how to use it. There is a whole cast of new characters. Some are fictional and some are non-fictional. The author did a ton of research for this book and did an excellent job putting it all together. The connections between the past and the future (or present) are quite evident throughout the book and I enjoyed how the author included a chapter from the future that ties Diana and Matthew’s adventures in 1590 to the present time period. They only thing that bothered me was that it took so long to get to the main reason for the trip. Matthew ends up dealing with a lot of personal business in 1590 and Diana gets herself noticed too much by the witch hunters. There is so much going on that you almost forget why they are even there. Things finally come together around part 3 and the story moves pretty quickly from there.
I’ve read these books twice and I’m sure I’ll read them again
What a great continuation to this story. I am truly enjoying this series. I definitely recommend this book, this series and this author.
Her portrayal of 1690’s Europe is MASTERFUL
I want a vampire in my “real” life but since vampires aren’t really I’ll have to settle for a fictional one.
Romantic and super natural
