The third book in the series of New York Times best-selling adaptations of Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy. It’s springtime at St. Vladimir’s Academy, and Rose is close to graduation, but since making her first Strigoi kills, things haven’t felt quite right. She’s having dark thoughts, behaving erratically, and worst of all …might be seeing ghosts. Consumed by her forbidden love with her tutor … forbidden love with her tutor Dimitri and protecting her best friend, the Moroi princess Lissa, Rose is in no state to see the deadly threat that will change her entire world – and make her choose between the two people she loves most.

I’m upset and don’t want to talk about it. That ending. I just can’t. I need to read the next book right now. I need to know what happens. I just feel for Rose.
Reread 4/2021: I love how much romance is happening in this one, and how much action. Christian and Rose kick ass, and I loved this chance to see them fight – and for the Moroi to start to prove themselves. I like that we see Rose step out of her comfort zone, even if she does it kicking and screaming. That ending though
Rose has to deal with the aftermath of her first Strigoi kills and having a guardian-in-training friend die.
This is a powerful story about destiny and what one is willing to sacrifice to fulfil it.
The relationships are intense, Rose learns more about herself and her choices, and even Lissa finally realises what Adrian and Victor had noticed from the start.
Rose has to choose between Dimitri and Lissa. She has to choose between the man she loves and the best friend she swore to protect. The consequences will define her destiny…
This is a really good book. I think this is where the series leaves behind the juvenile concerns of the previous books and turns to the more serious themes of who the character think she is and who she wants to be (very New Adult).
The last line in the book is brilliant.
You can even read this one as a standalone. A great novel about friendship, love and duty – with lots of vampires and folklore in the mix.
Shadow Kiss is good, Shadow Kiss broke my heart!!! I’m addicted to this storyline but really am hesitant to pursue it any further. My heart is aching. So much death and loss!
OMG OMG OMFG so much happened in this book I can’t even wrap my mind around it. Rose is having all kinds of issues. Thanks to being Shadow kissed and bonded to Lissa she is taking all the dark emotions and crazy that Lissa gets from using her magic and it is flowing though the bond to Rose. This is making Rose act crazy, angry and at times totally out of control and dangerous. Also Rose is seeing Mason’s ghost. Rose thinks she is going crazy, seeing ghosts and all but later finds out that she can see ghost thanks again to being Shadow kissed. She can also sense Strigoi when they are close. On top of all that craziness she is doing her 6 week field test to become a guardian.
Lissa and Adrian are working on their spirit magic. Christian is very unhappy with Lissa and Adrian spending so much time together especially after he finds out that the Queen plans on setting Adrian and Lissa up to marry. Adrian still flirts with Rose and wants to be with her but she blows him off. Rose and Dimitri make love for the first time. They say I love you and decide they can have a relationship. They make plans on how to go about living their lives together. There is a huge Strigoi attack on the school right after Dimitri and Rose make love. Dimitri is turned Strigoi. Rose is heartbroken and goes to Adrian and asks for a lot of money. He tells her he will give it to her if she will give him a real chance at a relationship when she gets back. She tells Adrian she will give him a chance. The next day Rose drops out of school and goes after Dimitri with the plan to hunt down and kill the man she loved, the man that is now Strigoi!
Unfortunately, this is the last of the graphic novel versions of this series…this means you’re GOING to end on a cliffhanger. It’s unavoidable due to where the 3rd book in the original series left off. Hopefully, you’re already a fan of the series and have read the novels and know what happens next. If not, be prepared and consider looking into the original novel series.
Again, we start with a lot of “catch up/filling in” stuff. I could have lived without that stuff, but I guess it’s necessary to those who don’t know the story or might jump in without reading the first two. If you have read the original novels, the story line stays very true to those. A lot of descriptive language is left out, of course, since it’s drawn instead. But, basically, if you enjoyed the original novels or if you enjoyed the first two graphic novels, you will enjoy this one.
Whoa. I read this in ONE DAY. I literally could not put it down. The best book in the series so far (I’m currently on #4). Tragic but awesome at the same time. Adrian, who I absolutely adore, is in this book again!! He is cocky and so sure of himself and I wish Rose wouldn’t be so mean to him! If anyone reading this plays The Sims 4 Vampires, I imagine Adrian looking like Caleb Vatore. Eddie has a bigger role in this book than he had in Frostbite and I really enjoyed him. I’m hoping he will be in the next ones as well and we get a little bit more back story/personal story on him.
I literally cried towards the end. There is lots of action and Rose’s mom makes another appearance, which I liked especially after their short little encounters in Frostbite (even if they were pretty mean to each other). Love this series!!
**I try not to spoil the book**
This book kept adding on to the story. This one is more focused on Rose I feel. Rose is dealing with the aftermath of Mason’s death in Spokane. Lissa and Adrian are teaching each other Spirit. Someone from their past comes back and things are revealed. The ending is so sad, but I think it might have been good for that to happen. I promise that the series will keep getting better, I can feel it. I am on the fourth book now. I loved this book but also hated it at the same time.
