I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. An all consuming story that is connected to other series of Janie by different characters that happen to have a little part in this one. Heath and Lyn, alias Jackie, namely little sister to one of Heaths best friends – he doesn’t know about slow but seriously fall for each other. Unfortunately, with Heath being undercover he brings more danger to Lyn’s doorstep than everyone could have guessed… A very well thought through story you don’t want to miss.
Wow! Another fantastic book and so much action. I am really enjoying this Linear Tactical series by Janie Crouch very much. Great romance, lots of action, team support and suspense and Shadow certainly had that in spades. Heath and Lyn make such a cute and unique couple. Starting their relationship on misinformation and mistaken identity only added to the tension but the attraction was there. I enjoy the development of these books, so well thought out and the action just build it up. I liked this book tioo because it was around 50 percent and it felt like it was over, but no it was just taking a breather before the book really built up momentum. A really excellent read! Highly recommended!!
This was an ARC which I’ve been excited to read and this is my honest review.
Once again Janie Crouch pens an incredible suspenseful romance that has kept me glued to my iPad. Heath and Lyn are an unlikely but absolutely adorable couple that seem to find themselves in the middle of trouble – serious deadly trouble that takes the whole Linear Tactical team plus extra support to take down. This story is full of action, drama and high intensity that made my heart pound. And, in the middle of this a beautiful romance blossoms between Lyn and Heath that made me smile and feel good. That is what makes this book great!
Another great book from this talented author who has caused me many a night of no or little sleep because once you start one of her Linear Tactical books I can guarantee you won’t put it down until you turn that last page because who needs sleep
We have met Heat(Shadow) in a few of the books and he had a fairly major role in Ghost as he like Grace and Dorian is a product of the Crypt experiment but where they are deadly killers he has been protected from the action so to speak his problem he has a constant stream of gibberish playing in his head. While he has predominantly worked on overseas assignments for Linear he is now back in the USA and is loaned to the FBI to help locate a stolen microchip at the local university where he is placed undercover as the janitor. There he meets Lyn Norris a almost (there is a story there)doctor of linguistics and he is instantly smitten and the feeling is mutual What he doesn’t know is that she is actually Jacquelyn Norris Zimmerman younger sister of his best friend and boss Gavin. The fact that the linguistics building has flooded but her smack bang in the middle of his investigation as danger circles she is beginning to suspect that the janitor is so much more than he appears to be. As they grow closer this linguistics professor may be the one to finally crack the code of what is going on in his head. This is another fast paced read that will have you turning the pages as fast as you can waiting for the next bit of drama and danger to occur
As, usual, Janie Crouch delivers a fantastic read. Shadow, the latest book in the Linear Tactical series, is just as entertaining as the rest in the series. The main characters, Lynn and Heath (aka Shadow), are wonderfully developed and tug at your heartstrings (pun intended…read the book to “get” it).
The story revolves around Lynn, a doctorial candidate in ancient languages, and Heath, a former FBI/Black Ops type member of the ” linear tactical team” who also has a phenomenal aptitude for languages. What follows is a a romantic and suspenseful tale in which these two get entangled with an organization that stops at nothing to further their terroristic activities. Can’t say more cause I dont want to ruin it and tell all. Anyway, I can’t emphasize enough that Janie Crouch is an author whose books you don’t want to miss. I cant wait for Echo, the next book in this series.
The Linear Tactical series is my favorite series from Janie Crouch. Each story draws the reader in with complex characters and intellegent plot lines that make it hard to put the books down. Shadow is no exception. Heath and Lyn are great characters and the story has a few unexpected twists I didn’t see coming. With plenty of action, romance and steam this is a definate page turner. Enjoy!
(4.5) Ghost was my favorite, so I wasn’t sure how I would feel about Shadow. Sigh, Janie has made me fall in love, awe and respect for them all. I want my “bookmen” to step out of the pages. This one had the intelligent “nerdy” girl who turns out to be Gavins sister. Give the guy a break, he didn’t know when he met her, come on. I love, absolutely love how he stood buy her and let her show the strong independent women she is even with health issues. Anyone else go google the syndrome besides me? This one had several twist and surprises. Noah also popped up in this one several times. Hot Sex and sadistic henchmen. Thank you Janie Crouch for the arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own Sigh, happy girl 🙂
Heath and Lyn were fantastic! This was another great story following Linear Tactical and it didn’t disappoint. Heath was also involved in Project Crypt in the past like Dorian and Ray. When he goes undercover and meets Lyn who is a linguistics doctor who is unknowingly dragged into the op they develop a great relationship. Lyn who was Gavin’s sister was a strong women who stood up for herself. Loved the story especially when she ends up involved even further in having the answers about the Crypt and why Heath is the insurance. Loved all the secondary characters that have been in previous books. Loved it!!
This is the 6th book in Janie’s awesome Linear Tactical series and each book is great! Janie is a master at weaving a story that keeps you glued to the pages of her books and sucks you right into their world!
Lyn is an awesome heroine with flaws and a major vulnerability! Heath, well, he’s part of the Linear Tactical crew, ‘nuf said! I love his struggle to keep from falling for Lyn. Love her struggle on thinking she’s not in his league; therefore, how could he possibly want to be with her. When trouble and danger throw them together, it’s explosive. When certain secrets are found out, it makes you wonder if they’ll be able to get past them. Needless to say, as with all of Janie’s books, once I start reading them, I get very little sleep and just keep turning pages until I’m sad because it’s the end of the book.
This is a standalone book with no cliffhanger, but it’s better if you’ve read the other books (including the Bree and Tanner books) because the characters are intermingled in all the books!
I love everything in this book. Its interesting to see how Ghost story goes side by side with this.Shadow aka Heath is on undercover mission and met Lyn who has her dr degree done. There is secrets and mies which test their relationship.Heath is alpha male and need to keep Lyn safe when bad guys try to get to her. Specially because her heart condition.Their chemistry is hot and shy Lyn shows new sexy side of her,he make her feel beautiful. It touched my heart how sweet Heath treats her.I learned new words, finnish curse word suprised me positive way.Janie have done excellent background work in this one. Those who loved romantic suspense and looking for good serie to read, this is YOUR book.I cannot wait next book!
Another fantastic book from one of my favorite series. Janie Crouch never fails to deliver thrilling, funny, amazing chemistry and suspenseful stories. Shadow was no exception.
Once again, there are some intense scenes and heartbreaking moments, but the strength of everyone involved was fantastic. It was so wonderful to see so many of the characters from the other books in the series and also the connection to Bree and Tanner!!
There are so many secrets and surprises in this story that it was impossible to put down. You just know a book is going to be great when the anticipation and suspense keeps you guessing to the very last page. And not forgetting the romance. Linear Tactical has been a fascinating series and I have enjoyed every single book. I’m excited to read more books in this series.
Where on earth to start a review for a book of this calibre?
Yet again this author proves why she is a top must click author in the suspense genre.
Once again you’ll find yourself on the edge of your seats wondering what twist is coming next.
Linear Tactical is one of my favourite series, long may it continue!
Love how you also get to see characters from other series too.
Definitely would give more stars if I could.
Heath was more down to earth then I was expecting! In previous stories, he flowed in and out of the shadows, utilizing his skills where best needed and came across as a machine. Here, he’s got heart, frustrations, and actually played emotional back-up to leading lady, Lyn, quite well! He was also smart enough to let Lyn stand up for herself and didn’t treat her like a fragile piece of glass.
I loved Lyn’s introverted personality, love of books, and her obsession for languages made her a book bestie! (And who knew cursing in so many languages could be that funny?!) Crouch made it easy to commiserate with Lyn’s struggle to have her own life by showcasing Lyn’s inner strength and driving need to succeed.
Lyn and Heath’s romance was great for me because the feelings felt so genuine! Instead of causing a barrier, Lyn’s insecurities and Heath’s secrets formed a connection between the two, leading to some steamy moments and much needed personal revelations.
I enjoy so many things about the Linear Tactical series and those common elements are present in each book, including Shadow! The family themed camaraderie and supportive friendships are wonderful and when paired with striking characters, sizzling romances, and excellent suspense elements?! Yes, please;)
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book from the author . All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Heath (Shadow) and Lyn are a great couple. I knew I would love Heath’s story and it is one of my favorite.
He was brainwashed by the covert agency he worked for and still suffers from the things they did to him.
Lyn thinks she can help him but things get complicated and dangerous when she tries.
There are so many secrets and so many surprises in this story that you will not want to put it down. You know a book is great when the anticipation and suspense keeps you guessing to the very last page and lets not forget the romance. Linear Tactical has been a fascinating series and I have enjoyed every book. A few of the secondary characters have already had their story and I hope the others get a story too.
When you start a new book you always have this anxiety of if it will be great or just good and you never know till your a few chapters into it. But with Janie Crouch you just know this is going to be fantastic so you put aside some reading time and get comfortable (maybe with a glass of wine) because you know its going to be extraordinary story. At the end of this story you just want to stand up and cheer!
I received a copy and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion.
I received an ARC for this book. The Linear Tactical series keeps getting better and better. Heath, who still suffers from voices in his head caused by an illegal experiment, is asked to join with the FBI trying to find out who was attempting to sell government secrets. He is working as a janitor in the building housing the lab working on the secrets. He meets Lyn, a PHD student who has been misplaced from her building. They exchange pleasantries and they both recognize the chemistry between them. There are several incidents that involve Lyn and Heath is there to watch out for her. Heath discovers who Lyn actually is – the younger sister of his best friend! The characters are strong and believable. The friendships which have been formed over the course of the series is as strong in this story as it was in the others. Will Heath get to the bottom of the incidents? Will Heath be able to protect Lyn? Will their chemistry lead to a relationship? Will Heath ever discover what is causing the voices in his head? I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to all. This series is wonderful!!
Heath had voices in his head, Lyn is a student . Heath is sent to find out what is going on in the labs his boss’s sister is a student there but is called Jacki and is in the hospitality studies. he runs into Lyn when is threatened , loved that Noah and tanner and bree are in the story or mentioned . if you have read any of the books in the series you will want to read this one., looking forward to the next book. Gabe is a very protective brother. I was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review.
Another short night’s sleep thanks to the literary talents of Janie Crouch. Once I starting reading this book, I could not put it down until I finished it. Heath was mostly in the background of the previous books until he took on a major role in Ghost. Like Dorian and Ray, Heath was a victim of Project Crypt, left with voices inside his head that he couldn’t understand and couldn’t get rid of. He’s desperate for answers, but his only lead is literally a dead end. So he buries the voices in the work of a new mission, stopping the sale of government secrets, by going undercover as a janitor at a local college. He doesn’t expect to be drawn to shy linguist Lyn Norris.
Lyn is the youngest in her family, with three over-protective older brothers and an equally protective father. Having a heart condition hasn’t helped matters either. Determined to live life on her own terms, she hasn’t told them about her change in majors from hospitality (SO not her) to linguistics (her passion). She’d rather have her nose in a book than have to talk to people, but she finds it surprisingly easy to talk to the new custodian.
There are sparks between Lyn and Heath from the beginning, though Heath tries to resist them. He needs to concentrate on the mission, but he can’t keep her out of his mind. Lyn is drawn to the handsome and friendly janitor who is so different than the other men in her life. When Lyn inadvertently ends up in danger, Heath will stop at nothing to protect her. The danger also intensifies the chemistry between them, and things get steamy very quickly. But Heath discovers that he’s not the only one with secrets. The morning after scene was pretty funny as he discovers that he slept with his best friend’s little sister and how much trouble he’ll be in when Gavin finds out. Lyn isn’t any too pleased either. I loved seeing Heath, Gavin, and Lyn work their way through all the obstacles and ramifications. However, the danger isn’t done with Heath and Lyn, and tragedy nearly parted them forever. The epilogue was great and showed how far they’d come.
There was so much I loved about Heath and Lyn. Heath is loyal to his friends. He is observant and friendly. And he is unstoppable when someone he cares about is in danger. There is also a softer side to him that is obvious in the way he treats Lyn. He thought she was beautiful in both mind and body and had no trouble telling her so. Lyn was great. She is smart and determined. She loves her family and hates causing them distress, but she is also frustrated by their treatment of her. I loved her unusual field of study and laughed at her extensive collection of foreign cuss words. I loved seeing her blossom under Heath’s attention and the confidence that grew with it. Watching her stand up to Gavin and Heath was fantastic.
The suspense was gripping throughout the book. From Heath’s pursuit of answers about what Crypt did to his brain to the final showdown over biological warfare, there was never a dull moment. There’s a brief period where it looks like the danger is over, but it comes roaring back with even more intensity. The final showdown was a nail-biter, with a couple of twists that took me by surprise. I always love it when I don’t see something coming.
The secondary characters were all great. I loved the appearances of the men and women from Linear Tactical. The downtime scenes were wonderful, from the football game to the picnic. I especially liked seeing Dorian and Ray. The scenes with Gavin were a riot, especially the sparring match. As always, the teamwork is incredible, and I love how they all come together to help. Kenneth, aka Blaze, had a big part in this book. I’d love to see him get tangled up with a woman. I liked the crossovers also, as Noah Dempsey from the Risk series made an appearance, as did mention of Bree and Tanner. I also liked Jenna Franklin and was impressed with her strength and attitude. I hope she’ll make an appearance in a later book.
So good, as always the author gives us part of the info we wanted and just makes us want more. In this book we focus on Heath as he tries to get answers about what was done to him during the secret project he was part of years ago. He does have symptom like Grace or Dorian: nosebleed etc but he has noise in his head that to him doesn’t make sense and make him feel crazy.
He can’t stop those noises but while working it quiets down so when an FBI agent comes ask his help for an infiltration he jumps on the offer….
Heath is loyal, often in the shadows (thus his name) that doesn’t mean he isn’t taking risks for his friends he is just more discreet.
Lyn is very ill with a heart trouble but she still wants to lives to the fullest and her dreams are travel abroad and dead languages….with a over protective family she ends up working in secret while letting them believe what they want. When meeting Heath she must accept that she is also a woman and under his charm. Lyn is really a courageous heroine, she is determined to reach her dreams, she doubts herself but at the same time tries her best and i admired her for that.
We do get more info about the crypt project in this instalment but it doesn’t feel like everything is completely finished yet so i’m curious about next book for sure. I loved how easy to read this story was while being a page turner full of action with the right amount of romance and humour.
As a bonus we do get to see more of the whole team we met in precedent books as well as meeting more of Gavin’s family member like Noah we met in the Bree and Tanner series.
A must read for sure
Another GREAT book from one of my favorite series –Janie Crouch keeps delivery thrilling, funny, smoking hot books for me to fall even more in love with Linear tactical squad.
I absolutely loved Lyn. She knew her limitation but that didn’t stop her from doing what she loved and wanted. I loved how she stood up for herself. But what I loved most was the way she
effortlessly loved Heath. As for Heath; I didn’t find him as intense I as did Dorian or Finn but that didn’t stop me from falling for him the minute he kissed Lyn because he couldn’t stop himself. I think they were so perfect for each other. Him with his protective side and her with her silent strength they made quite the couple. And of course this series wouldn’t be what it is without all the group coming together to help put down the bad guy.
Now I can’t wait for Echo to come out because my hands are itching to see what is the deal between Cade and Peyton .
