Ahhhh finally Ian’s book. And what a book! This books was intense from start to finish. I loved both Veritas and Ian. Veritas was such a fascinating character.
That ending! It’s made me so excited for the next book. I can’t wait!
________________
I wish I could give this book more then 5stars!!! It was fabulous and so worth waiting for. Ian is without a doubt one of my very favorite rogues of all time!!! He inspires lust in not just women but man as well, hell I think he could bring the dead back to life!! He is one of the most sexiest and truly one of the most arrogant vamps of all times and he is what I think a true vampire should be,he lives life to the fullest enjoying everything and everyone he comes across, but I always knew their was more to this vamp then we knew and jeaniene has let us see more into his life from beginning til present day. You can always tell when some one has been abused or misused in their life and Ian’s has had more then his share. But when veritas one of the most feared law guardian’s walks back into his life with a means to kill dagon and get his soul back, the gloves come off and Ian meets his match.Veritas life has not been a easy one and we find out more about this law guardian,in fact theirs a big secret that nobody knows and veritas has hide it from even those closest to her. Can two very different people put their past’s behind and heal? Oh! Yes! They can!!! Fabulous chemistry, yummier sex and funny as shit moments!!! Also I loved that bones, cat, spade and one of my favorite immortals of all time mencheres and even vlad makes a appearance!!! Can’t wait for the next book in this series Wicked Bite !!!
Ian and Veritas’s story was everything I wanted! The action and wit, along with the romance and some surprising reveals, made this book a page-turner. I couldn’t put it down once I started, and I can’t wait for the second book. Summer 2019 can’t come soon enough! I definitely recommend.
Fangs are fun, especially in Shades of Wicked.
Ian and Veritas are badass. Together they are force to be reckoned with. It’s an unlikely partnership that leads to scenes that steam off the page, along with tender moments that fill the heart.
Ian was always one of my favorite charterers in the Night Huntress Series so I was stocked when I heard he got his own books.
I finally got to book one and I was not let down, I really loved it and realized how much I miss that world. Cat, Bones and of course our man of the hour Ian and all the fun snark and action.
Of course we learn so much more about Ian and there is so much more to him than we knew about him, including his given name 😉 I lover when we heard more about his time as human even if it was not so happy , but it made him, him and many things mad sense.
I liked the new thread and people , and cant wait to read more about it , all the action and tension and surprises that lay ahead.
Now that that is said lets get to the other big aspect of the book, romance or should I say book porn…… :p While I really like Veritas , she was fun and funny and the perfect match for him I didn’t much care for the Shmexy sexy scenes , I often skimmed them and it honestly felt sometimes like I was reading 50 shades vampire edition.
I loved them as a couple and what they did for each other and the other main story and threat , but I did not care for their sex scenes as much. Often it felt like way too over the top and much.
But overall great story and I missed Ian , Cat , Bones and their world a lot .
I give it 3.5
It’s been a while since I’ve read anything in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress world, and after reading Shades of Wicked, I’ve realized just how much I truly love and miss these characters and the world Ms. Frost has created. Shades of Wicked is an outstanding beginning to the Night Rebel series set in this world.
The story is told from Veritas’ point of view. She’s on a mission to find the demon Dagon and she has good reason which the reader will learn later on in the book. She also knows that Ian has been marked by this same demon and he will face serious consequences if the demon is allowed to collect the payment Ian promised him. So with a shared goal of killing Dagon, Veritas and Ian go out to do some demon hunting.
There’s the usual Ian sarcasm and snarky attitude, which just made this book feel like coming home to this fan of this world. Oh how I missed him! He’s always been a fan favorite for his sharp tongue, quick, carnal experiences and attitude and he brings it in spades in Shades of Wicked. But there’s also another side to Ian and fans of the series know that he’s also got a sense of honor that rivals the other members of his vampire family.
During the hunt for Dagon, Veritas and Ian grow closer as they share their motivations and past. I just loved learning more about Veritas. I always thought she was pretty awesome and it was exciting to hear her story and heritage. Hold on to your hats readers — Jeaniene Frost brings out all the supernaturals in this story and there’s plenty of action to keep you turning the pages. My heart was racing there at the end.
Of course it wouldn’t be Ian’s story if there wasn’t any debauchery going on and the story starts with a bang, and there’s plenty of spark between Veritas and Ian which is amplified as they share their stories. Let’s just say these two are perfect together in and out of the bedroom (and everywhere else). I still h ave to fan myself just thinking about Ian’s creative use of magic in one of their scenes together.
The story is pretty much all Ian and Veritas and I really, really liked that about it. It was personal and intimate and had me falling in love all over again with this world. And swoon-worthy characters from the Night Huntress series Mencheres, Bones, Spade and Cat make significant appearances that had me smiling all the way to the end.
One word of warning — there are spoilers for previous books in the Night Huntress and Night Prince series, so be aware. If you haven’t read the previous series in this world, I do recommend reading all of them.
I just adored Ian and Veritas’ story. I devoured this book in a day. There’s plenty of action, plenty of hot (and at times sweet) steamy scenes, plenty of supernatural activities and a copious dose of magic throughout this book. It’s definitely on my favorites of 2018 list and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Absolutely loved this book!
Oh my…Ian’s story was bloody well worth waiting for!
With his devilishly wicked sense of humor, jabbing barbs, and intrinsic sensuality, Ian is still my absolutely favorite reprobate! He’s also loyal, intelligent, and honorable, but most don’t see him that way because of his outlandish presentation.
Veritas isn’t someone I’d have originally picked for Ian, but in hindsight, I can’t think of anyone better suited. She has a core of integrity and a commanding presence I can respect immensely, yet it was her vulnerabilities that won me over.
Pairing these two together wasn’t an instantaneous spark, but the more Ian and Veritas opened up, the more explosive their chemistry became! And the inferno they created? It was freaking spectacular! Ahem..so aside from the blistering sexy moments-which I assure you each gave as good as they got-I was thrilled to learn more about Ian’s mysterious past and gain a better understanding of what made Veritas tick.
Shades of Wicked delivered more than I expected! While I knew Ian had more depth then he let on, I wasn’t sure he would deliver without losing his roguish self. He not only refuses to go straight, his partner in crime more than rises to the challenge with creative capabilities. The story was full of quips, fights, secrets, heavy emotion, quirky humor, and seriously steamy moments only Frost can write in a way that makes fangs look sexy! Bonus points for the moment Veritas had to meet with Bones, Cat, Spade, and Mencheres in her new role, because I laughed myself silly as I tried to imagine what the holidays would be like!!
I am so happy to be back in the urban fantasy world with Jeaniene Frost! We’ve all been dying for Ian’s story but I don’t think any one can truly be prepared for all the jar-dropping action and heart stopping scenes! Let me preface this by saying I want to be Veritas when I grow up; she’s badass, sexy, smart, and one of the toughest heroines I’ve ever read. On the hunt for the rakish vampire named Ian, Veritas is desperate for revenge against the demon Dagon. Ian may be bound to him but Veritas is smarter and sneakier when it comes to reaching her goals. She knows Ian will resort to flirting ( to the most extreme version) but his eyes spark a feeling in her she hasn’t felt before. But she’s going to fight her feelings every step of the way as they partner together to take down the demon responsible for both of their fates.
Ian doesn’t understand the Law Guardian Veritas’ obsession with him but she’s the most interesting thing he’s come across in years. After a botched deal with a demon he’s accepted the forfeiture of his soul. Who doesn’t want to go down in a blaze of glory with the least expected ally, a law guardian. But the seemingly stuffy Guardian has more secrets than even Ian. With magic reveals, secret identities, and more twists than he can keep straight, Ian becomes enamored with the gorgeous woman who keeps kicking his ass. As they go deeper towards their trap for the demon Dagon, Veritas reveals more and more of her true self to Ian. She harbors a secret that no one else can fathom, and sharing it with Ian wins him over.
In the midst of battle Veritas and Ian sear a blood fealty to one another, AKA a vampire marriage and now have to keep up the ruse as they lay their trap. As Veritas reveals more of herself to Ian she fears she may be falling fro him as well. Ian has more honor than he truly shows beneath his libertine persona. Cloaked in innuendo, he begins to protect Veritas at every turn and they begin to truly trust one another in hoes to survive the coming battle. Personal sacrifice will be the main course in this romance, as the grand finale is one hell of an explosive show. Throw in some of the hottest, no-holds-barred vampire filled sex I’ve read in awhile and this hot romance is my latest 5 star read! I can’t wait to see more in this series!
4.5 stars . . . . Ian. . . Ian. . . Ian. . . new series. . . all Ian (okay and Veritas)
Ian was so worth the long wait that it took. I am so happy that it was not Kat’s mother that became his love interest. He needed someone as strong as he was with a comparable life mission, goals, history. You get more than enough to hold you through this read and then some. The glimpse at past, present, old and new friends, and then there was Veritas.
Jeaniene Frost has not disappointed me. Ian was and will be more. I honestly was hoping that he would get a series of books like Vlad, but not a series that would over shadow Kat and Bones. The Night Huntress World has grown to include the vamp bad boy. Love. Love. Love.
Jeaniene Frost has done it again! Ian’s book lives up to the hype. You’ll love the heroine, the tension, and most definitely the swoon factor.
The main characters Ian and Veritas are complex and they have both been adept at hiding behind a false persona. When they meet, sparks fly, but they also find acceptance with each other.
The plot is packed with action, excitement, and plenty of unexpected twists and turns!!
If you are a fan of vampire stories, I highly recommend this one; the first in a series about Ian and Veritas.
So, let me preface this by saying that I haven’t read any of the other books in this series. Let me follow that by saying, I didn’t need to in order to love this story. I understood Ian’s character, and loved Veritas. I didn’t know that this story would encompass multiple books. I’m still not sure if I’m really happy about that or frustrated. Mostly happy I think. The story was action-packed. The sexy times where seriously hot, and damaging to their surroundings. I had some laughs and I loved that these two could see through the layers of each other. I found Ian’s friends made me feel bad for him. I will definitely be reading the rest of books in this story.
So bottom line, even if you haven’t read any other books in the series, this one is still a great read.
I went back to re-read / re-listen to this series because I saw that our infamous pain in the behind, Ian was finally getting his books. I loved going back into the Night Huntress Universe. These books are laugh out loud funny, heart wrenching, steamy, bloody, crazy well written, novels. Each one brings you deeper into the Night Huntress world and if I could live there, I’d bounce out and into this world SO FREAKING FAST!!!!!!!
Now a good book is a good book, but when you add in a next level narrator with the amazing writing and storytelling that is Jeaniene Frost – bro- that’s when magic happens. And this is what the Night Huntress universe is with narrator Tavia Gilbert. NEXT LEVEL MAGIC. I will forever LISTEN to these audiobooks because Tavia has completely raised the bar on audiobooks for me. Each characters voice ( Bones, I’m listening to you, handsome) is utterly FANTASTIC. I’m obsessed. Obviously, you can tell from all the CAPS that keep popping up here. From Cat and Bones, Mencheres and Kiera, Vlad and Leila, Spade and Denise, to each supporting character and every villain – I’m here for it. HERE. FOR. IT. I want Tavia to narrate my LIFE after listening and re-listening to these books. Anyway – there’s not a bad book in this series, which is rare, and what’s even better – I can listen to them YEARS later and still laugh out loud at these characters. They’re amazing. Jeaniene is amazing. Tavia is amazing. It’s AMAZING.
If you’re an audiobook listener – check these out because they’re top notch. So So Good. I’m so excited to get back into this world with Ian’s story. GIMME!!!!!
I am a huge Jeaniene Frost fan, and eagerly await the next novel in her engaging and well-written series about re-imagined vampires. They are people, with all the wonderful and terrible attributes of humanity…real people, who just happened to be vampires. They remain unknown to humanity at large, but live among us. Her characters are well-defined individuals, her plotting is fast-paced, and her writing is both excellent and approachable.
Shades of Wicked is the first book in the new Night Rebel series and this was just such a great way to start off a new series. Let me say it’s about time that Ian got his own series. I am just so happy that he’s finally at the forefront of his own story. I just had so much fun getting to enter this world and see Ian and Veritas. I just couldn’t get enough of these great characters and I loved getting to go along for the ride. I just couldn’t get enough of this story and I was sad to see it end. I will most definitely be reading the next book in the series.
There were so many bisexuals in this book, I’m shook.
If you’re a fan of the Night Huntress World, like me you’ve probably been waiting for Ian’s book for a good while. I don’t know about anyone else, but I seriously couldn’t picture who would be capable of bringing Ian down. But Veritas came in and owned my ass, I loved her just as much as I loved Ian.
Like I said, I’ve been waiting for this book for a looooong time. I had very high expectations for it. On paper these two shouldn’t work, but they brought out the best in each other. Ian gave Veritas more spontaneity and fun in her very 5,000+ year life. Veritas brought out Ian’s more loving and mature side. Their chemistry was so authentic and the banter was A+.
I loved that neither of these characters lost their personality when getting into a relationship. They grew of course, but at the core they stayed true to themselves. The way their relationship progressed to unwilling allies to something more was very natural.
We also get to see all our favorite characters from the other series too! I loved seeing Cat, Bones, and Spade. These cast of characters work so well together. Every group scene were some of my favorites.
And of course, the plot was action-packed! The story revolves around Ian and Veritas going after a demon they both have their issues with. You’ve got some great fight scenes, some really intense scenes at the end, and lots of paranormal creatures.
The ending was such a rollercoaster. It got me so pumped for the next chapter in these characters lives. I don’t know when book 2 is being released, but it better be soon.
What for Ian book for a long time. Loved this book and can’t wait for the next.
Super-powerful beings, demons out for revenge, fake marriage and a little winged dog named Silver. All good, and then add in a final fight scene in a theme park. Veritas AKA Ariel is a Law Guardian but…is she? Ian is a vampire hedonist…but is he? I found I enjoyed the complicated world-building a little more than the relationship-building on this one, but that’s partly out of respect for how creative it was.
Love, Love, Love!!!!!! OMG Ian!!! <3 I'm waiting for book #2. :))
LOVED this book. Ian and Veritas were amazing together. I love how resilient they both are, but JF gave them brilliant moments of vulnerability that made me fall in love with them both. I cannot wait for book #2!
Highly recommend!
