As if being a ghost whisperer in a trailer park isn’t weird enough, skinwalkers take things to a whole new level of strange.
Running away from her demons rather than facing them, Shade’s mother moves them once again to a new place—this time a trailer park on the outskirts of Roswell, New Mexico. Hiding in plain sight among UFO … in plain sight among UFO festivals and rumors of alien abductions, paranormal creatures live there by their own rules.
Shade accepts her destiny as a ghost whisperer with the help of her new best friend, Kai Zahnii. An empath and healer with the potential to become a Navajo shaman, Kai must break free of her dysfunctional family. This dysfunction goes far beyond anything Shade has ever known. Kai is all too familiar with skinwalkers, shapeshifter witches who violate taboos in order to practice pure evil. In the Wild West atmosphere of her new town, Shade is thrown into a world inhabited not only by ghosts, but also by witches, faeries and shapeshifters. She must find the courage to fight the skinwalkers alongside her new best friend and creatures she never knew existed.
SHADE AND THE SKINWALKERS is Book #2 in a YA Paranormal Mystery / YA Urban Fantasy series.

Shade And The Skinwalkers (Shade Series, #2), my second read from author Marilyn Peake. Enjoyable, tightly woven & well-written but I’m not sure it measures up to the standards of Shade (Shade Series, #1). “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.” The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Now I need to read Shade and the Skinwalkers (Book 2 in Series). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
The second book in the series did not disappoint. I received this book free the only thing that was asked of me in return was an honest review. Heat scale was a zero, and violence was moderate. World-building is exceptionally well done, and very descriptive just incredible. Characters were very well developed you came to care about these characters as if they were members of your family or friends, and both the storyline and plot line were intricate and well-thought-out. Shade is at it again she is solving Mysteries and helping ghosts to move on in the afterlife. There are twists and turns unexpected events that keep you guessing all the way to the end. I highly recommend this book it was a fascinating read, and kept me turning the pages. I just love these kind of books that draw you in and keep you until the very end continuing to be fascinated and interested in the story line. You won’t be disappointed by this story.
Shade and her mother are moving again. But oh so exciting, first she could talk to ghosts and now fairies, shifters and skinwalkers. Oh my gosh I think this book may be better thank the 1st one. Now I can’t wait to read book 3. Shade and friends never leave you bored. I recommend.
The world is full of secrets, that Shade learned. Her journalist investigations, her friends’ experiences and the Supernatural world became an asset to open her eyes to a new reality. She was afraid but decided to uncover the truth and help those who needed her help. A true heroine! Enjoyed this second book that kept me intrigued with the interesting plot development. Shade’s character, a ghost whispered, it’s becoming stronger each time. This YA Paranormal story has mystery, suspense, intriguing secondary characters, detailed narrations and descriptions and fantasy.
Shade’s mom ran again, this time to a mystery area near Roswell New Mexico, home of space alien tourism and plenty of supernatural types. Shade’s new next door neighbor in the trailer park turns out to be psychic too, a Navajo girl named Kai (sorry but my Finnish dad was named that; it’s wacky for me) and her family is stranger still. But soon they are the targets of the local evil Skin-Walkers.
But there’s good news too; her best friend from book 1, Annie, had been rescued from human trafficking and is recovering in a sanitarium nearby. Shade and Kai get to visit, and help her to heal. Shade’s mom, too. Now it’s up to Shade to get to know her brand new reborn mother and accept her! Tall order, especially as she and her new gang at the school newspaper have to thwart a murder spree by the Skin-Walkers, some of whom are teaching high school! EWWWW.
Luckily the hangovers from hippie times had plenty of off-beat names for their kids of Shade’s age, so it’s easier than usual to make allies at school. I had no trouble believing in all these characters.
The only quibble I had was when somehow Shade’s mom couldn’t remember how to cook for Thanksgiving, when in volume 1 she pulled off the entire thing very easily, and Shade even made the biscuits and a jello mold for it. I guess for those who skipped volume 1 it would matter less than the comic interludes in the trailer park kitchen are worth, plus playing up the feels.
Still, I am gamely going on to the next book because we’ll be in one of those trendy new ‘magic academy’ tropes for it. Let’s see where Peake steers us.
Galactic Shade Griffin is back and now she has more paranormal to deal with than just ghosts. There are shapeshifters and their evil counterparts the skinwalkers. This time Shade is a senior in high school, and has to deal with moving to a new state. She still uses writing as an outlet. The story is original and had me guessing. If it weren’t so late I would crack open book 3. As for that I’ll just put it on my list of things to do tomorrow. I got this book through storyorigins and this is my voluntary and honest review.
To me, the best kind of urban fantasy / paranormal story is one that introduces novel types of magic, has a fully satisfying adventure, but is somehow grounded in reality. Shade and the Skinwalkers achieves this. The characters are superb and they and the settings they’re in feel realistic. The paranormal / fantasy elements are very (very) well done but at the same time thx eltmfbrs that gave nothing to do with paranormal / fantasy work extremely well too. All in a totally fun story that’s extremely well crafted.
