Ruby Scott is months behind on rent and can’t seem to land a steady job. She has one chance to turn things around with a big audition. But instead of getting her big break, she gets sick as a dog and completely bombs it in the most humiliating fashion. All thanks to a mysterious, gorgeous guy who kissed–and then coughed on–her at a party the night before.Luckily, her best friend might have … have found the perfect opportunity; a job staying at the lavish penthouse apartment of hotel magnate Bancroft Mills while he’s out of town, taking care of his exotic pets. But when the newly-evicted Ruby arrives to meet her new employer, it turns out Bane is the same guy who got her sick.
Seeing his role in Ruby’s dilemma, Bane offers her a permanent job as his live-in pet sitter until she can get back on her feet. Filled with hilariously awkward encounters and enough sexual tension to heat a New York City block, Shacking Up, from NYT and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting, is sure to keep you laughing and swooning all night long.

Helena Hunting has knocked it out of the park with this first book in the Shacking up World. Ruby and Bane are one of my fave couples. This story was fun and sexy. It is a slow burn romance that will have you hooked from the beginning to the end.
This book left me satisfied as it gave me plenty of feels. I laughed, swooned, and smiled throughout the book. Helena Hunting never disappoints as she brings us memorable characters and exceptional romcoms that stick with you. I highly recommend this book!
5 STARS
Another EPIC read from Helena Hunting. I originally read this book in 2017, but decided to do a re-read to get my BANE fix!
Shacking Up is the first book in the Shacking Up Series by Helena Hunting. This book is freaking hilarious. I love all the characters that we’re introduced in the Shacking Up World. Bancroft “Bane” Mills is my absolute favourite! He’s funny, sexy and has a quirky love for his exotic pets. Ruby is an absolute hoot! Helena writes such amazing female characters that are so much fun that you can’t help but love and want to befriend them.
Helena Hunting is hands down my ROM-COM QUEEN!!! This is definitely one of those books you don’t want to miss! Shacking Up by Helena Hunting will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
Shacking Up has me hooked from the get go! Ruby Scott is currently down on her luck, behind on her bills and hasn’t been able to get a steady gig. She has a rather unfortunate run in with a super sexy mystery man at a party hosted by her bff and her fiancé. Sexy stranger, aka Bancroft Mills, had a disgusting cold and out of his mind on cold meds when he grabs Ruby unexpectedly and kisses her senseless. Thanks to her magic kiss she gets sick at her audition the next day and loses the part she was up for. Her bff finds a place for her to housesit while the owner is out of the country and she is floored when she realizes the place she is potentially sitting belongs to the man that ruined her audition! The chemistry these two share is undeniable even when they are in different countries. The sparks fly when he gets back home and doesn’t wanna lose his sexy help.
I loved Bane and Ruby! I wasn’t expecting this to be such a slow burn but I’m not mad about it. I do wish we got more of the couple actually together (like on the same continent), but I still really enjoyed their story. I also wish we got more of Bane’s POV, but what are you gonna do? I’m excited to continue with the series and see Amalie ditch Armstrong the Jerk… 4.5 out of 5 wine glasses
Love the series, a must read!
This book was great. Ruby was a train wreck but she was a realistic one. It was a great book,
It may not be a Pucked series book, but it’s still a hoot. It’s easy to tell Shacking Up is a Helena Hunting book. It’s still got all the kind of humor and the quirky characters you would expect from one of her books. How Ruby and Bane meet is quite comical. I liked the premise of the book, it was interesting and entertaining. I enjoyed both Bane and Ruby and their relationship development. Ruby tends to say what’s on her mind and doesn’t like to be told what to do. She’s a strong and independent character. She’s a bit like a tamer version of Violet. I liked Bane a lot as well. I find it funny that he has a ferret and a tarantula as pets. I really liked being in his head and reading what he thinks about people. Shacking Up was really enjoyable and I think Hooking Up will be as well.
Shacking Up is a naughty tease! It keeps you on edge, fired up and raring to go. It offers the idea of release only to leave you on the edge of blue…well I don’t have balls but you get what I mean by tease.
The intense connection, adorable ferret, and even Tiny make this book a fun, flirty read. I am glad I finally got around to enjoy it.
This book was great!! I always consider Helena Hunting as a go to author, she just knows how to do rom-com. She definitely did not disappoint with this book. Ruby Scott and Bancroft Mills just pulled me in as soon as she stumbled into his lips and tight embrace. The chemistry….whew the chemistry between these two put the “ust” in Lust! There are so many obstacles in the way of these two coming together…mostly themselves, it was just so satisfying to sit back and watch it all unfold.
Ruby has this best friend, Amie, I was a bit jealous because she was just amazing to have. However, Amie’s fiancé…he’s shady. I love how Helena puts so much into her characters that you want to get to know them and be their friends too.
All of the different parts of this book just meshed well and flowed. It had me laughing so hard, even when I was reading in public because I couldn’t put it down and people were looking at me like a crazy person. You definitely do not want to miss out on this five star read.
So freaking awesome!!! This was a great slow burn story. I was going nuts… I kept saying “Just **** and get it over with!!!” I absolutely love these 2. And when they finally got it together … They. Were. Hot!!! I recommend this to anyone!!! And if you can, listen to the audio… The male voice made me panties melt!!!
One mistaken action… Leads to a lot of flirtation (often hilarious), which leads to a lot of insinuation (holding breath here), then to anticipation (panting here), then a conniption (some frustration here) and then at last, to blissful satisfaction (lots of sighs and toe-curling here)… Wow! A great read. Loved Bane and Ruby’s story.
I Loved this Read so so Hard it’s been a while since I’ve Laughed Out Loud so much. Wonderful Characters, loving them All. CAN’T wait to Read next book in series
Shacking Up by Helena Hunting was pure fun. I enjoyed the light-hearted banter between Ruby and Bran. The beginning of the story held my interest, but I wasn’t wowed. Mid-way through I became invested. Then the wow factor set in. The slow, steady romantic buildup was worth the wait.
Out-of-work actress, Ruby Scott is the epitome of a hot mess. She’s certainly had her share of misadventures. The daughter of a billionaire CEO, whose claim to fame is his erectile function medicine, Ruby is hell-bent on proving to her father that she is going to make it as an actress. Otherwise, she’ll be forced to move back to Rhode Island and work for her horrible step-mother.
In a case of mistaken identity, Ruby shares a kiss with Brancroft “Bran” Mills, the wealthy son of a hotel mogul. Unfortunately, they shared more than a kiss when Ruby comes down with the flu and blows an important audition. Now homeless, Bran comes to her rescue when he offers her a job as a pet sitter. Through a series of video chats, Ruby and Bran discover their mutual attraction could be way more than mere friendship.
Loved this book. I read it 2nd after Hooking Up. I believe I liked the characters better in Hooking Up, but still very entertaining.
What a breath taking view to romance told through Helena Haunting. I couldn’t put Shacking Up down needing to see what crazy event would happen next. It left tears in my eyes from laughter.
“This man is like a nuclear bomb of sexy, just waiting to go off.”
Shacking Up is a perfectly and well plotted comedy romance. It’s light but HOT, it’s funny but serious.
I really enjoyed this book! Starting I was sucked right in, helping me letting go of my daily stress-level during my holidays.
Bancroft is pure sex on two legs. Hot and charming, down to earth even though coming from a rich background, I fell for him as easily as Ruby did. Ruby is simply adorable, don’t know how else to describe her. She’s smart, clever, easy going, self-confident, very funny and hard working for her goals. I totally see why Bane fell for her!
The undeniable hot chemistry and attraction between them both was slowly boiling through the story, until none of them could hold back anymore ending up in a big BOOM.
Shacking Up is a seriously entertaining, light-hearted romance I loved reading.
Highly recommended to everyone who’s looking for a fresh and fun read!
“I can be a white knight with a dirty mind, can’t I?”
Loved it!
My first Helena Hunting book and I loved it! Such a funny heartwarming read the build up between Ruby and Bane was great. Definitely will be reading more from this author.
Helena Hunting can write some books ya’ll. I am an avid reader of hers and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Pucked Series. I was a little scared going into this one because well, it’s not a Pucked book. However, I absolutely fell in love with Bane and Ruby!!
Pucked Boys be damned, there’s a new hottie in town and he’s got one hell of a dirty mouth!
Ruby has no idea what she is in for while attending her best friend’s engagement party. A run in with an incredibly hot guy in the hallway by the restroom leads to a heavy make out session which leads to all sorts of trouble for Ruby. See, the hot guy is sick with the flu, which he passes along to Ruby…disaster in the making.
Now looking for a job and an apartment, Ruby’s best friend sets her up with a job apartment/pet sitting for a friend, Bane, who just so happens to be the guy who kissed her and started this whole mess to begin with!
“You know, you can call me Bane.” “Like the bane of my existence?”
I thoroughly enjoyed Ruby! She is a woman who lives in the moment, a starving Broadway actress who is trying to make ends meet. Ruby has no qualms about saying what she means, like it or leave it. She is hilarious and I like how she knows what she wants. And that, my friends, is Bane.
Bancroft “Bane” was refreshing. He was so much more than the typical rich guy. He spent a good part of his life doing what he wanted to do, which was rugby, but now is following in the family business. Having to travel for work, he has Ruby stay at his apartment to watch his unusual house pets. And his attentional to detail and organizational skills had me drooling like a baby. I mean, come on! Who doesn’t like a hot, sexy rugby player turned business man who has his shit together??!
“Bancroft is stretched out on the couch watching sports with Francesca curled up in his lap. Right on top of his penis. What a whore. I wish I was her.”
Bane and Ruby’s friendship was fun and lighthearted until it turned into something so much more. These two had unbelievable chemistry and great banter, and were so very attracted to each other, you’d have thought they would have jumped each other immediately. But no, you really get the build up with this one…. more than halfway through the book before any sexy times happen. Get yourself a fan, lock yourself if your room, grab a change of panties, whatever you have to do because when it does go down? HOLY SHIT. If you’ve read any of Helena’s books, you know her men have some dirty mouths. Bane is no different and it is UNREAL. The mouth on that man, I’ve got some ideas on what I’d like it to do
Shacking Up was an enjoyable story that had a little bit of everything in it. A whole lot of sexiness, lighthearted fun, sexual tension that is off the charts, cute animals, sexy men, one HELL of a douchebag guy who you will love to hate…. all of which you will absolutely fall in love with!
So cute! I loved this one.
