From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of TAPPING THE BILLIONAIRE comes a new standalone romantic comedy. What happens when the one guy you want to avoid the most, is unavoidable?Lola Sexton is the writer behind Sex Says, a successful relationship column at the San Francisco Times. She’s a pro at advising others on their love lives, but if there’s one thing she isn’t in the market … love lives, but if there’s one thing she isn’t in the market for, it’s love.
Reed Luca is a wanderer and a jack of all trades. He doesn’t believe happiness comes from a nine to five job, or that success is delivered through a paycheck.
But opportunity often finds its way to those who aren’t looking.
When Reed signs up to write an anti-Sex Says relationship column, the result is all out war.
Sex Says: If you let guys walk all over you, you could end up smelling like feet.
Reed This: Don’t try to change who you are. There’s someone out there for everyone. Take someone with a foot fetish falling in love with someone who smells like feet as an example.
Sex Says: Appreciate what you’re given.
Reed This: Don’t like what you’re given? Fight for what you want.
Sex Says: Don’t ever date a guy named Reed Luca.
Reed This: Find a woman like Lola Sexton and find her quick. She’s a unicorn.
Lola hates Reed. Really, she does.
It’s just too bad the guy is so likable.

Everything about Sex Says was amazing, and I absolutely loved it! The storyline and characters were phenomenal, and I once again loved Max Monroe’s writing style and laugh-out-loud sense of humor. This author duo never disappoints, and Sex Says has been one of my favorite romantic comedies from them so far. It was a hilarious, sexy, entertaining, and addicting story from beginning to end, and I loved it so freaking much!
The storyline was incredibly unique, and unlike anything I’d read before. It was unconventional in a lot of ways, but also a breath of fresh air, and I loved the message behind it. I loved the enemies-to-lovers aspect as well, and it was nothing short of entertaining to witness Reed and Lola spar. The unique storyline, abundance of laughter, and quirky yet lovable characters made for one unforgettable story. Max Monroe definitely knocked it out of the romantic comedy park with Sex Says!
Max Monroe characters are always fantastic, and the ones in Sex Says were no exception. Reed Luca and Lola Sexton were extraordinary, and I loved them with all of my heart. They have been two of my favorite characters from Max Monroe so far, I completely fell head over heels in love with them. I immediately felt a strong connection with Reed and Lola, and was hooked to them and their story from start to finish. Reed and Lola were unlike any fictional characters that I’d come across, and I couldn’t have loved them more. I loved their personalities and red-hot chemistry together, and how their relationship progressed throughout. I loved reading the book from both Reed and Lola’s point of view, and all of their banter and interactions with each other. Reed and Lola’s families were amazing as well, and added even more humor and entertainment to the story. There were a few bumps along the way, but I honestly loved everything about Sex Says and Reed and Lola’s story. Even though the ending was different than I expected, it was very Reed and Lola, and I was so happy with the conclusion. Max Monroe created another romantic comedy masterpiece with Sex Says, and I’m so excited to read more from them!
Sex Says was pure romantic comedy gold, and I would HIGHLY recommend it! Max Monroe blew me away with Reed and Lola’s story, and I was very pleased with the outcome. Everything Max Monroe writes is brilliant, and I can’t wait to dive in to more books from this amazing author duo!
He’s his own person. Doesn’t fit in the norm of society. She marches to the beat of her own drum. He is so laid back and casual and a champion BSer. She is quirky, sometimes clumsy and a bit childlike with her attitude at life. They aren’t much different. It starts out with him criticizing her work in a very public way. So off the bat, she hates him. Once he meets her in person, he was smitten. He is quit persistent in his mission to spend time with her, even though she wants nothing to do with him. Both characters are great, but there were a few times I did want to smack him upside the head. There are plenty of laughs (mostly at her expense) throughout the book, and some silliness. There are also some rather sweet moments. There is a little angstiness, but over all this is a good light hearted read. There is some sexual content that is probably best suited for mature readers, but that’s not the driving force behind this story… despite what you may think based on the title. 😉 It reads easily, and alternates between POVs.
I swear I think you’re my new favorite author! This wasn’t your traditional love story but still a great romantic comedy. This book was filled with so many emotions and wonderful characters. My favorite part of the book was the banter between the families. My new rule is to get the presidents approval!
This one is a little different, and the characters are fun. I loved reading about their growth and development.
A lot quirky, funny, and very lighthearted. Well edited.
At the end of the day, this is a story about two people who refuse to grow up and ‘adult’. Reed and Lola are both just over 30, and both are following the beat of their own drummer. Reed drifts from one odd job to the next. He moves on when he is either bored or has gotten whatever it was he wanted out of a job. For example, he wanted to see the view from the top of the Golden Gate Bridge, so he got a job painting it until he got to see the view he wanted. Once he achieved his goal, he quit and moved on. He loves to invent stories – in his own head, to total strangers, prank calling, and with his own family. There really doesn’t seem to be one serious or adult bone in his body. Then, there is Lola. She has a job writing a pseudo advice column, but dresses like she is still in the high school (probably in the ’80’s!). These two meet after Reed disagrees with one of her articles in a video that goes beyond viral. Lola doesn’t take disagreement very well. Thus begins their journey to doing life together. Will Lola move past her anger with his disagreement? Will Reed find the one thing that he will want to stay constant in his life?
Definitely a quirky tale about two oddballs finding love. And really, there are people that refuse to ‘grow up’ and embrace age-appropriate clothing, responsibilities, and life goals. If everyone in the world were the same, it would be a boring place. Enjoy.
I picked up this book because it was only 99 cents! After reading it, I would pay full price….it was that good!
Lola Sexton works at the San Francisco Times and is the writer of the relationship column, Sex Says. Lola writes a column about Signs of Mr. Avoidance & Why You Should Avoid Him and this catches the attention of Reed Luca and really fires him up.
Reed is a college educated person who basically drifts through life, continuously taking on new, unique jobs. After reading Lola’s column, Reed decides to make a video of himself refuting Lola’s words and ends up posting it on YouTube. The video goes viral. Lola is mortified and arranges to meet Reed and confront him. What she doesn’t expect is to be attracted to him. Turns out Reed if VERY attracted to her and a fun love/hate relationship begins.
When a rival newspaper hires Reed to write a column, “Reed This” that will be a rebuttal of all of Lola’s columns every week, that is when the fun begins. As these two spend more and more time together, feelings start to develop and they both start to see the other’s point of view. I just loved the emails and then texts that these two send to each other. Quite a few times I was laughing out loud. Just when it looked like these two were going to get their own version of a happy ending, things decided to take a detour. When these two finally got to their happy ending, it was perfectly quirky, just like them!
I have to laugh because these characters are absolutely perfect in their own ways. Quirky and fun, Lola Sexton is my spirit animal. Reed Luca, however, is sex personified with an contradictory opinion of everything.
The combustible chemistry and lit match take these two to a whole new level of burning. It’s hot and tense but also an absolute blast. The ridiculousness is smile inducing even as I type this.
Sex Says but you need to Reed This to understand- this hate to lovers book is everything you want in a rivalry and a romance. Right, wrong, or palm reading…you will love it all!
Oh man was this a great book, it did not disappoint. Their writing is so good and they make me laugh a lot. I’d say that Reed is a special kind of snowflake. He’s a wee bit different and I can see how he can be unlikable, but not to me. He and Lola together are fantastic.
“God, this man lived his life so differently than most. Reed Luca was the guy who made his own rules without apology and never let social expectations veer his direction in life. He lived for himself—not for anyone else.”
There’s so much amazing banter between then, I just loved it all. Lola’s family is hysterical and they entertained the hell out of me. This whole book did! Ahhh, I can’t wait to see what else this awesome duo comes out with.
So sweet and still true to Max Monroe style.
Sex says to read this book and you will no doubt adore the crazy duo that is Lola and Reed! These two characters are not your typical leading characters. Lola is not what society considers “normal.” She is eccentric, kind, a tad immature at times, but so damn endearing! Reed is not the obscenely rich leading man. He doesn’t live his life the way everyone expects “normal” people to live. I think that is why I love these two so much!
Lola writes a column about sex, love, and relationships. Reed stumbled upon one of Lola’s columns and found himself disagreeing with what she had to say and he wasn’t afraid to let her know. To say he made quite the entrance into Lola’s life and turned it upside down and inside out is an understatement! Thus began the love/hate relationship. The tug of war game these two played via email was the best!
This book was witty, sexy, unique, and just plain ol’ fun! I didn’t know what to expect from these two unconventional characters!
Cute story
Love this author. Great story. Romance, sex, humor. Can’t wait to read more from this author
This book was disappointing because the female character who is a writer and writes an advice column swears worse than a sailer and uses the “F” constantly and not in reference to sex. That is trashy. It ruins the character and the story.
Reed Luca….holy balls! I think most women, who read this book, will agree with me when I say that we want our very own Reed! Laid back, quick-witted, hilarious, and drop dead sexy, Reed is his own breed of male. Reed’s character completely saved this book, in my eyes. Without him, I don’t think I would’ve been able to finish. Which is a complete shock to me, because I absolutely LOVED Max Monroe’s previous books.
I found that it took me a lot longer to really get interested in the story, as I realized that Lola was a very big contradiction. Over half the time, what came out of her mouth wasn’t even how she truly felt. She couldn’t be completely honest with herself, let alone anyone else, when she dealing with her issues and what she really thought. And isn’t that what her column was supposed to be about? Her TRUE opinions on dating and relationships.
And even though I stated Reed saved the story for me, he had his own flaw that didn’t sit well with me. As open and honest he was in his own columns, he couldn’t be completely honest with Lola about his real feelings. But I guess it was easier to overlook that flaw in him, since it was obviously stated in the book how much of a pathological liar he was.
Overall, I just wasn’t WOW’ed by the story. It had a lot a potential, and I was genuinely excited to read it. I could very well be in the minority of people who weren’t completely blown away with this book, but it will not deter me from reading anything else from Max Monroe. It will actually make me want to read more. One sour apple won’t ruin the entire sweetness that is Max Monroe’s books.
