From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Anathem, Reamde, and Cryptonomicon comes an exciting and thought-provoking science fiction epic—a grand story of annihilation and survival spanning five thousand years. What would happen if the world were ending?A catastrophic event renders the earth a ticking time bomb. In a feverish race against the inevitable, nations around the globe band … race against the inevitable, nations around the globe band together to devise an ambitious plan to ensure the survival of humanity far beyond our atmosphere, in outer space.
But the complexities and unpredictability of human nature coupled with unforeseen challenges and dangers threaten the intrepid pioneers, until only a handful of survivors remain . . .
Five thousand years later, their progeny—seven distinct races now three billion strong—embark on yet another audacious journey into the unknown . . . to an alien world utterly transformed by cataclysm and time: Earth.
A writer of dazzling genius and imaginative vision, Neal Stephenson combines science, philosophy, technology, psychology, and literature in a magnificent work of speculative fiction that offers a portrait of a future that is both extraordinary and eerily recognizable. As he did in Anathem, Cryptonomicon, the Baroque Cycle, and Reamde, Stephenson explores some of our biggest ideas and perplexing challenges in a breathtaking saga that is daring, engrossing, and altogether brilliant.

Marginal. First part of the book was good but the second part was totally unnecessary and should have been a separate book. Here it only served to detract from the book.
slow to build, then unable to put down, kinda like all his books
Neil Stephenson is a masterful Science Fiction story teller. Seven Eves is a multigenerational, multiworld story.
This is one of my favorite go-to’s when I’m depressed about humankind’s chances of survival. Filled with hard science, great characters, and lots of action, this book requires very little suspension of disbelief and offers hope that we, as a species, may not only survive, but mature into something wonderful.
One of my favorite SciFi books, Seveneves starts as hard science fiction and extrapolates realistically into the far future. The primary characters are rich and relate-able as they face the onset of global catastrophe. I particularly enjoyed the imperfect humanity as even the most superhero of the protagonists show their flaws. Moreover, …
Neal writes long books…but they’re worth it, a Tom Wolfe of Sci Fi. From Zodiac, an eco thriller he’s moved into historical fiction and near and distant futures that have a complexity that only a mini series could capture. His short reads, Zodiac, Snow Crash, the Diamond Age are amazing, the latter two a Gibson like future with always strong …
This is a really long book. It is really two books in one. Fortunately, it is really good, so you get your money’s worth.
Neal Stephenson is back to form with a tale of survival after an earth destroying event. He gives enough detail to make it seem real, and enough accuracy to impress my inner geek. The action and suspense make it hard to put down, and the twists and surprises keep you on your toes the for the duration.
I have always liked his writing and stories, …
A big book, so big that in some places it’s pretty “lightly colored in” but still I really enjoyed it. Stephenson is one of my favorite writers.
The best book Stephenson has written so far! It’s actually two books in one (you’ll see what I mean) but the first half alone is worth the price of entry for the space action sequences.
Amazing universe created in intricate detail as well as a sensation of science-based realities boldly executed. I may have wished for some tighter editing towards last third of the book but otherwise was taken and haunted both by what the author reached for and achieved.
This was a good book, but there was an entire segment that could have been written but seemed to have been ignored for the sake of wrapping it up. There was a lot that could have been written about the various groups the seven encountered and their histories which would have been of interest.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got this but it was so much more than what I was expecting. I would love to see a sequel to continue with the great world building.
What…A…Book!!! Impossible to put down even after 900 pages! Sequel pretty please.
This book was tough to put down. Really an engrossing story
This VERY long sci-fi novel (2 in 1?) was chock full of information and scientific explanation that I have no way of knowing are accurate. Worse, after a while, I didn’t really care. I kept waiting for there to be more to it. There wasn’t. There isn’t. Unless you REALLY are into technical explanations of why science is as it is, don’t bother …
Read the book. It is a little long, and the character development is a little shallow, but the story is great, with original ideas. I recommend it.
Engaging and entertaining. Original and thought-provoking.
Well written winner. Could not stop reading.
I must say, Seveneves is most certainly original. At first I thought it was just another dystopian themed novel, but it actually had a pretty decent outcome. I also appreciated the technical details, especially those explaining the dangers inherent in spaceflight and the dangers faced daily by astronauts aboard a space station, although at times …
