NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A magnificent collection of Outlander short fiction—including two never-before-published novellas—featuring Jamie Fraser, Lord John Grey, Master Raymond, and many more, from Diana GabaldonAmong the seven spellbinding pieces there is “The Custom of the Army,” which begins with Lord John Grey being shocked by an electric eel and ends at the Battle of Quebec. Then comes … Battle of Quebec. Then comes “The Space Between,” where it is revealed that the Comte St. Germain is not dead, Master Raymond appears, and a widowed young wine dealer escorts a would-be novice to a convent in Paris. In “A Plague of Zombies,” Lord John unexpectedly becomes military governor of Jamaica when the original governor is gnawed by what probably wasn’t a giant rat. “A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows” is the moving story of Roger MacKenzie’s parents during World War II. In “Virgins,” Jamie Fraser, aged nineteen, and Ian Murray, aged twenty, become mercenaries in France, no matter that neither has yet bedded a lass or killed a man. But they’re trying. . . . “A Fugitive Green” is the story of Lord John’s elder brother, Hal, and a seventeen-year-old rare book dealer with a sideline in theft, forgery, and blackmail. And finally, in “Besieged,” Lord John learns that his mother is in Havana—and that the British Navy is on their way to lay siege to the city.
Filling in mesmerizing chapters in the lives of characters readers have followed over the course of thousands of pages, Gabaldon’s genius is on full display throughout this must-have collection.
“Gabaldon is in fine form . . . weaving together characters’ lives, connecting plot points, and showing tantalizing glimpses of the larger Outlander world, of which this reader can never get enough.”—Historical Novels Review

Excellent book but you must read the entire series in order to enjoy any of the books.
I’ve read this book as well as the series of books Gabaldon has written. This book gives some side stories and tells you where certain characters were in between the main story line. It made for some good reading between the her latest book and waiting for a new book to come out.
I have read and own all of Diana Gabaldon’s books. Have read all the books in the Outlander series 8 times. Am anxiously awaiting her 9th book in that series to come out.
Diana Gabaldon is an outstanding writer. This book is a page Turner. I love facts, and there are a lot of history and cultural facts in this book.
Such creative writing and insight into the major and minor characters of the author’s Outlander series. Compelling with many historical factual events woven into the lives of beloved characters. Great writer and creator of a favorite series.
not on the same caliber as Outlander…. just filling out the book shelf
LOVED THE SERIES, but I’ve been waiting & waiting & waiting (you get the idea) for the rest if the series.
I’ve read all of Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” books. These short stories were wonderful; I found the story of Roger’s parents particularly touching.
Interesting and hard to put down, I read the whole series
liked it very much. One should have read the Outlander series before reading this.
Love Diana Gabaldon’s writing and her characters.
Glad to have all seven tales in one book! I’ve already read a couple of them, but am rereading in chronological order. Also glad for the chronology of the “Big Books” & shorter tales combined in this tome. I fell in love with the series with the loan of the first book from a friend, & have eagerly devoured each one I could get my eyes on since!
LoveLoveLoveLove this series! Read it! You will fall in love
with the story and the characters!!
Hands down I have read all 8 books in the Outlander series and I could hardly put them down. It is the BEST series I have ever read. She is the best writer and I have read them all.
Wonderful, as always with her books. Can’t wait for the next Outlander one.
I liked all of these short stories. I definitely like her bigger books better just because more happens. But these short stories were very good at getting glimpse of characters that you don’t otherwise have much information on.
A great little book to fill in the gaps
What has Diana Gabaldon written that wasn’t superb? This is another one of her masterpieces.
Again an Outlander book. This is moving toward the end and is GREAT!
This may be my favorite collection of novellas from Diana Gabaldon. I highly recommend it.
