NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A magnificent collection of Outlander short fiction—including two never-before-published novellas—featuring Jamie Fraser, Lord John Grey, Master Raymond, and many more, from Diana GabaldonAmong the seven spellbinding pieces there is “The Custom of the Army,” which begins with Lord John Grey being shocked by an electric eel and ends at the Battle of Quebec. Then comes … Battle of Quebec. Then comes “The Space Between,” where it is revealed that the Comte St. Germain is not dead, Master Raymond appears, and a widowed young wine dealer escorts a would-be novice to a convent in Paris. In “A Plague of Zombies,” Lord John unexpectedly becomes military governor of Jamaica when the original governor is gnawed by what probably wasn’t a giant rat. “A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows” is the moving story of Roger MacKenzie’s parents during World War II. In “Virgins,” Jamie Fraser, aged nineteen, and Ian Murray, aged twenty, become mercenaries in France, no matter that neither has yet bedded a lass or killed a man. But they’re trying. . . . “A Fugitive Green” is the story of Lord John’s elder brother, Hal, and a seventeen-year-old rare book dealer with a sideline in theft, forgery, and blackmail. And finally, in “Besieged,” Lord John learns that his mother is in Havana—and that the British Navy is on their way to lay siege to the city.
Filling in mesmerizing chapters in the lives of characters readers have followed over the course of thousands of pages, Gabaldon’s genius is on full display throughout this must-have collection.
“Gabaldon is in fine form . . . weaving together characters’ lives, connecting plot points, and showing tantalizing glimpses of the larger Outlander world, of which this reader can never get enough.”—Historical Novels Review

Cannot put it down. Late to work and tired from reading only “one more page”.
Diana Gabaldon is my all time favorite!
I really enjoyed reading these novellas, although I must say Virgins was a little meh. The other stories were great to read!
If you are an Outlander fan, read this for background and details on the characters.
I am reading/listening to the audiobooks, waiting for the next book to come out in November. Normally, short stories are not my favorite things; some are really great— all are enjoyable. The Introduction page, where it lists all of the books in chronological order with a description of each, is very helpful in written form, but vaguely irritating on audio. I loved having gaps between the books filled in. I am very excited for the new book to come out!
Any book by Diana Gaboldon is a great book. This one has several different stories, all of which pertain to The Outlander series; and we all know how we love Jamie and Claire in Outlander!
Fascinating collection of Outlander stories. Especially enjoyed the “A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows” about Roger’s parents. Very touching! “A Plague of Zombies” is hilarious. Very eye opening is “The Space Between” about the evil Comte St. Germain and mysterious Master Raymond, “Virgins” stars our boy Jaime and best friend Ian. A must for anyone who read the 8 Outlander novels.
Great series!!!
Another great book of short stories relating to her other books. My absolute favorite author! Love everything she writes!
You don’t have to be a Gabaldon fan to love these stories; they will make you one! These minor characters from the Outlander series or the Lord John Grey series take center stage in Seven Stones…..
All stories stand alone, but if you are a seasoned fan you will love the tying up of these loose-end characters. They have earned the spotlight Ms. Gabaldon shines on them!
Love all her books can’t wait for book 9
This was just one of a series by Diana Gabaldon and I’ve read every one. Highly recommend her books. Waiting for book 9 now.
DIana never fails
For everyone trying to fill “Droughtlander”.
I’m always guaranteed a good read from Diana Gabaldon. Her characters stories are believable and well written giving you no choice but to keep going. When you turn the last page you sigh with the ending and wistful that its done.
Anyone who has read any of Diana Gabaldon’s books will love this one, too!!! I just wish there were more of them!!!
Love the fill in stories from Jamie and Claire can’t wait for next book!!
These stories are so much fun for an Outlander fan. Minnie’s backstory is especially enthralling. And I love every Lord John story. Some of these shorter pieces touch lightly the fabric of Claire and Jamie’s story. Others intertwine completely. All are quite satisfying.
I enjoyed most of the short stories in Seven Stones to Stand or Fall. I loved Virgins and A Fugitive Green. While these books did not necessarily expand on The Outlander books. They definitely gave more depth to Jamie, Hal, and Minnie. Books like A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows, The Custom of the Army, and The Space Between give so much extra depth to the Outlander books. A plague of Zombies and Beseiged expanded on Lord John. I have not started the Lord John books yet so I do not know for sure if these stories are mentioned in his books. I did enjoy A Plague of Zombies. I could not get into Besieged and eventually stopped reading it.
Read the entire series. Well written, great characters, and action packed historical fiction with a fantasy twist.
I like the Outlander series very much and these novellas which give a more in depth perspective of certain characters and their history are equally enjoyable and add context to the broader series.
