Now you can turn the odds in your favor. Employers can be looking for you, not the other way around.
You will no longer be told that you’re overqualified, underqualified, have too much experience or too little.
You can set your own terms.

One thing I appreciate about this is that the two authors make their livings doing exactly what the title directs – guiding people to find engaging, challenging, and fulfilling employment.
The steps make sense, but what sets this book apart is that each step is outlined with all the actions laid out, and put into context from both the jobseeker’s perspective as well as that of the prospective employer.
Rule of thumb statistics, survey results, and real world examples are all used to show why each action is necessary, and why each is in the order it’s presented.
When I started going through the process, it was startling to see the shift in perspective I was experiencing just in the first couple exercises. The sense of nagging futility began lifting, and I actually began to feel empowered.
This is startlingly helpful, and fits squarely in to the real world.

I purchased this book for my niece who will be graduating from college this Spring. I wanted to read the book prior to giving it to her to determine if the information would be beneficial. The book exceeded my expectations. I especially appreciated the step-by-step advice that covered so many areas that are often forgotten by applicants; such as how to prepare for an interview, how to handle the actual interview, networking, etc. I’m looking forward to providing her a leg up on the interview process.

This book exceeded my expectations. I figured it would go over the standard talking points about methods for finding jobs and doing interviews, but there’s so much more than that. It gives you effective tips for how to network through social media and transform that into direct person-to-person contact with influential people who can help you acquire your dream job.
The book doesn’t just provide vague tips and platitudes about searching for jobs. There are step-by-step instructions on how to connect with people, what to say, and how to leave a lasting impression with individuals who can positively impact your career. Most of the job searching and networking tips provided in this book aren’t taught in high school, college, or grad schools. Following the advice in this book can exponentionally improve the probability of landing a job you really want.
I received this copy of Seven Secrets for Getting Hired for Job Seekers from the authors as an advanced reader copy. Being familiar with Jonathan Green and knowing how he always delivers on what he promises, I knew that this would be a valuable book for anyone looking to get hired. This book is not only for the unemployed seeking to reenter the labor force but for those who have steady employment and are looking to better themselves on the job. There are many self-help books on the market today that promise to help you get a job and then climb the ladder of success on that job. What sets this book apart from all those books is that what you read in those books is based on theory but what you will read about in this book is based upon practice, not on theory, practices that Green has employed in finding employment and then climbing the ladder of success on those jobs.
In this book, Jonathan and Greig give you all the know-how and all the tools you will need to land the job of your dreams. This book teaches you how to discover and target the right companies for your job search. It teaches you all about the importance networking, developing beneficial relationships and getting into the job pipeline. After reading this book, you will know how to win interviews and then ace those interviews. As a wise man once wrote, or perhaps it was some wise woman, “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” This book will not create those opportunities, what it will do is prepare you to meet those opportunities when they present themselves. We create our own luck through preparation. What I wouldn’t have given to have had this book sixty years ago when I left the family farms as a fresh faced kid of sixteen in search of my first real job. Many of the tools and techniques that Jonathan and Greig talk about in this awesome book didn’t even exist back in those good old days.
There may be other books that cover similar material, but this one is short, sharp, and goes straight for the jugular. The author doesn’t beat around the bush. You purchased it for what it said on the front, and that’s just what you get.
I found this book to be very interesting and informative. I haven’t been able to work for a long time due to a chronic debilitating illness (which still continues its merry way, unfortunately), but the first thing I learned from this was that the traditional world of employment has obviously changed big time.
I’m not willing to give away the author’s secrets, you’ll have to buy the book for yourselves I’m afraid, however for someone like me who has lost a lot of self-belief, this would be hard work. Mr Green can talk the talk and has clearly walked the walk. This is his story, and his confidence oozes from every word. This is not a bad thing, he doesn’t come across as a smug person. You need to hear these words from someone who has been there himself, or you may not believe it.
It’s a well-written piece of work, full of sensible ideas and the correct order to do these in. I can see how a job seeker could quickly become unstuck if they don’t follow the author’s words very carefully. Overall, it’s a good read, insightful and realistic, and I would recommend this for anyone searching to make a positive impact to their future working life. Good luck!
I received an ARC copy of this book via Booksprout, which I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed. All opinions are my own. I pre-ordered the book anyway, for future reference.
