What a fun, naughty read with just the right amount of sexual tension and humor!
I’m a big romance novel enthusiast. When I found out that Seven Minutes in Heaven was in the offing from the magnificent Eloisa James, I just had to pick up my copy. And pre-order I did! The story, as any romance novel begins, has the two protagonists from two different worlds–or so they think. Ms. James brings us back characters whom we meet very early on in her other books about the Desperate Duchesses. Eugenia and Teddy were children when I first met them in her books, and to see them now as adults with their own story was fun. It was a little formulaic, but let’s face it, we don’t read these books to criticize just how–but they’re more of a means of escape. I love the mistake identity bit, it’s amusing to me because it reminds me of how small the circle of friends can be in these books. The Grand Gesture in the end made me laugh. If my hubby had done something like that for me I might just die and go to Heaven. Everyone needs a gesture like that, but for me, reading about it was enough. It’s another enjoyable romp in Ms. James’ world, and I loved it.
This is Desperate Duchesses by the Numbers #3; Desperate Duchesses #9.
Eugenia Snowe is the owner of a registry office for governesses. She opened it after losing her husband in a terrible water accident 7 years earlier.
Edward Reeve, Ward to his friends, is a brilliant inventor who is the son of an earl. He is used to charming his way into getting what he wants.
Eugenia starts to have a problem as soon as Ward comes to her office without an appointment. He has been assigned a governess for his two young half siblings, but things don’t work out. He is given the one he demands but he actually wants her. She refuses him, thinking another governess will put things right for his brother and sister. She enjoys Ward’s company and talking with him but she will not do anything to tarnish her reputation. She knows he doesn’t realize she is a lady, the daughter of a Marquis.
Eugenia holds her ground, until Ward kidnaps her! He tries to convince her that an affair is just what they both need. He promises her that this reckless gamble will give her the sweetest pleasure she has ever had. After all, “all it will take is seven minutes”.
I really enjoyed Ward and Eugenia. I love their banter, their humor, the letters they write back and forth to each other and the big gesture he comes up with for her. I have to read more in the series!
I really enjoyed Ward and Eugenia’s story. I don’t usually like romances focused around kids, but it worked. There were lots of characters and twists but it all flowed together quite nicely. I’ve always been a fan of Eloisa James’s writing and I still am.
“Seven Minutes in Heaven” by Eloisa James It is book 3 in the Desperate Duchesses by the Numbers Series.
I read the audio book that I downloaded from my state library.
This was a fun 1800’s (Regency?) Romance read… a typical Eloisa novel

A great romance with steamy sex scenes ending happily ever after. Must read.
