How to say enough times that there are not enough stars to give this book! The flow of the words and the characters made it a hard book to put down!
Tear jerker and sadness and happy times and sweet times and powerful moments occur in this story! When you have a series this powerful you definitely want more even when it’s not always “easy”!
M. R. Leahy is not afraid to take you into the dark and then give you the light! It takes exceptional talent to do that without us the readers being afraid to continue- you want, no need to reach the light!
Set Us Free is the second installment in the Bound Forever series. This is not a standalone so be sure to have read the first book Set Me Free before proceeding.
This book is Dark, gutwrenching, so Raw and full of emotion and Sunshine, it also contains Triggers and is not for the faint hearted .
Kodah and Emmalyn’s story picks up right where book 1 ended.
I love love loved their conclusion, so without giving anything away I’ll keep this brief.
Kodah and JB join the Soulless Sinners MC,
Emmy is trying to find herself after the ordeal she went through.
Drifter and Buck do everything in their power to keep Emmy safe for the threat that’s lurking in the shadows. Kodah keeps watching over her, she his Everything and as time goes by he proved it to her by being right by her side when she needs him the most.
Their connection is bound forever, their chemistry is Sizzling hot, the hurdles these two have to go through is just heartbreaking, they pull at your heartstrings and will forever be embedded.
Once again M.R Leahy has created a beautifully broken masterpiece.
I can’t wait for JB and Bailey’s book.
Loved this series!!! Love this author! I laughed. I cried. I swooned. At times my heart beat out of my chest! This is book 2 in a dark romance series by M.R. Leahy. It is not for the faint of heart. There are dark, twisted, and raw scenes full of angst, but there are also touching and beautiful scenes. It is a good balance of both. There are sensitive subject matters but it is written realistically and beautifully. She did an amazing job in weaving this story. In the end, there is an HEA, and I would consider this a must-read.
Book 2 picks up where book 1 left off. It is the not-so-easy love story of Kodah and Emmalyn, but nothing good comes easy, right?! This book demonstrates how strong a love can be if you truly love that person. It is a love of faith, perseverance, endurance, and forgiveness; not just between the two of them but also between family & friends. Their story will grab hold of you and won’t let go.
I recommend reading this book. There is no shortage of angst, action, suspense, mystery, love, sexy scenes, lust, dark subject matter, & violence….basically a roller coaster of emotions. It will break your heart on a number of occasions, but M.R. Leahy always puts it back together. She is a wonderful author who makes her books and characters come alive! Thank you for sharing this heartbreakingly beautiful love story with us! If you haven’t read book 1 (Set Me Free), what are you waiting for???? Hurry and read book 1 before book 2 releases. You won’t be disappointed!

~~4.5. SOUL SHATTERING STARS! ~~
“I will always find you.”
Holy Moly!!!!! I may never, ever recover from this book! My heart has been shattered to smithereens. I bled umpteenth tears. I have been punched in the gut. And I couldn’t be more THRILLED!!! Yup, that’s right, because OMFG…SET US FREE, the epic conclusion to the BOUND FOREVER duet, was absolutely brilliant in all its brutal, beautiful splendor!!!
Fact. I was not sure what to expect going into this sequel because the bar was set SO INCREDIBLY HIGH with book 1. Well, I can unequivocally say that Ms. Leahy left me spellbound again!!!
To be honest, it’s kind of hard to express how much I had invested in Kodah and Emmy…ill-fated lovers who give new definition to the term TORTURED SOULS! They owned me from page one of SET ME FREE, where I fell instantly in love with these two terrified, enslaved children who grew up amid harrowing circumstances and clung to each other like their very lives depended on it. Which they literally did. Even though their nightmarish imprisonment ended five years prior when they were liberated from the sex trafficking compound, they still have many hurdles to overcome in this book. Namely the fact that poor Emmy has amnesia. She remembers nothing of the past…not even Kodah, the boy who was the other half of her soul, her savior, her stalwart protector.
While Emmy has spent all this time painstakingly trying to heal and reclaim her life, with the help of her overprotective father figures, Drifter and Buck, Kodah has been quietly watching over her his traumatized beloved from afar, and in the interim has forged a new family with the Soulless Sinners MC club in California. But on the 26th day of every month, without fail, he shows up in Texas at the hospital art studio where Emmy seeks sanctuary. Years ago when they were in the slave compound Kodah made a pledge that he vowed to uphold to his last dying breath.
But her future is uncertain at best. And even though they never exchange a word all these years, and Emmy has no idea who her guardian angel is, she finds his presence strangely comforting and is inexplicably drawn to him.
And as it turns out she has more than her memories chasing her. When Kodah catches wind of the grave peril she is facing, he is done biding his time. He is reclaiming his girl, screw the consequences, but when their pasts and presents collide can they finally set each other free from the shackles of their pasts or is their nightmare truly just beginning?
Sighhhhhh! This book consumed my heart, obliterated it and then slowly but surely fused it back together again. I felt EVERYTHING Kodah and Emmy and their tight knit circle of family and friends felt. Their frustrations, fears, hopes and dreams, their sweet triumphs and soul-obliterating setbacks. There were so many churning emotions that bubbled beneath the surface, so much repressed pain, lingering terror and pent up longing that I had a constant ache in my chest and was literally on pins and needles throughout.
Kodah and Emmy are a rare book couple… they have endured unimaginable tragedy and pain and suffering that would splinter a typical duo in two, but giving up on each other was NEVER an option for these forever soulmates. They loved each other with a wild, fierce possession that steals your breath!
Kodah is a true warrior and he never stops fighting for his girl, who despite her aura of fragility is more fearless than either of them could ever imagine. I cherished them both…and–SWOON!–I melted into a puddle every time “Romeo” cradled Emmy in his big, sheltering arms, kissed her gently or crooned “baby!!” But oh my heart… did I hurt for the big guy just as much, as he felt so powerless to help Emmy banish the ghosts of her pasts, unlock her repressed memories and fully embrace the love they once shared.
The extraordinarily gifted M.R. Leahy proved beyond a shadow of a doubt with SET US FREE that she is so NOT a one book wonder. She had a lot of ground to cover with this book, tons of questions to resolve and mystery to unravel, and she handled it with the aplomb of a seasoned pro! This novel delves into some extremely harrowing subject matter… abuse, trauma, brutal assault, PTSD, to name a few…but she struck a perfect balance between hope and heartache, light and darkness.
The execution of the plot was, in my opinion, sheer genius. She did a masterful job of juxtaposing between the present and the past, all the while relaying the story via multiple POV of all the key players—including Emmy, Kodah, Buck, Drifter, JB and Pops. This unique approach paid homage to the characters’ complex histories, converging all the various story threads into one cohesive plotline, and foreshadowing future storylines for upcoming books. The plot unfolds at a breakneck speed, finally reaching a fever pitch in a SPINE-TINGLING CRESENDO that was equal parts horrific, cathartic and searingly emotional!!
I do not want to reveal any of the chilling twists and turns that unfold but be forewarned: THIS. BOOK. IS. DARK. And if you have triggers this is probably not the book for you. The journey these characters traverse is gut-wrenching, visceral and raw it literally made my skin crawl a time or two, but it is also sweet and pure and breathtakingly romantic I exalted with joy.
And the ending was EPIC indeed! I wept my way through it…happy tears this time! It was truly the perfect culmination of their hard earned battle which showcased our beloved Emmy and Kodah clawing their way out of the oppressive darkness to the shimmering light where “together we will shine brighter than the sun.”
BOTTOM LINE? M.R. Leahy blew me away with SET US FREE, and even though I have bittersweet feelings that Emmy and Kodah’s story arc has reached a fitting conclusion, I can rejoice in the fact that JB and Bailey’s tumultuous story is just beginning…!
This wickedly addictive, dark, and compelling book will cast a spell on you. This is one of the best dark reads of 2017. It will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. THIS BOOK WILL OWN YOU!!!
It’s spellbinding, edgey the characters and development were very well written I could not put this book down this masterpiece will have you on a rollercoaster of emotions..
I cannot wait for more BRING ON JB!!
This is the second book in the series of Emmalyn and Kodah, the two broken souls who find their HEA but not without multiple hurdles they must get pass. This book was built around good things and bad things. The stalker was a surprise to me. The reunion of Emmalyn with her family had me in tears, but the biggest moment for me was Buck, his goodbye to Emmalyn broke my heart. As much as I tried to hate him, the second book had me forgiving him and wanting him to find peace. Again, I love this series so much and I am beyond happy that it will continue. I hope some of the characters from the first book will find their way into the books that follow. I want happiness for these characters, they have all been to hell and back. Kuddos to you, Ms. Megan…another one hit out of the park…
All I can say right now is: “Wow”. I had high hopes for this book after loving the first instalment, and I was scared of being disappointed with the sequel. Let me tell you something, the sequel was just as good, if not better, than the first one.
This book made me cry and feel so many emotions. My heart was racing throughout, ached for many chapters, and swelled at the amount of love present in this book. Despite the dark and heart-wrenching themes carried over from the first novel of the series, this work has an underlying current of hope and love.
Beautifully paced and written, this masterpiece will take you on a roller coaster ride. It is not easy to represent an amnesiac remembering slowly after a trauma realistically, yet Leahy pulls it off effortlessly. She never seizes to amaze me with her skill and talent. I feel as though every part of this book has a purpose, and I agree with every choice that Leahy made. I feel as though they added reality to the story, and added another dimension to it as well.
Leahy also managed to surprise me with this novel. There were plot twists I hadn’t seen coming, and I was completely entranced by her words. The author creates such raw and honest characters, that are, yes, flawed, but so real. She makes you look at their flaws and accept them. She makes you love this band of broken characters, and that’s a beautiful thing.
Emmy and Kodah’s story is not a fairytale. It’s not easy to read. In fact, it will rip your heart to shreds. However, it is also one of the most rewarding stories you’ll read.
I look forward to reading more of Leahy’s work in the future. I cannot wait to see what else she comes up with.
This took all the emotion and depravity from the first book and just ratcheted it up about 100 notches! What happens next will really make you wonder what makes some people the craven monsters that they are, and it might even destroy your faith in “happily ever after”. So, get your tissues ready.
This series is absolutely addicting!
Amazing story and follow through from first book. Characters are very real and such a great story of strength.
I love this series. There’s so much pain and heartache but also lots and lots of love! You just had to look deeper beneath the surface of some characters.
Emma and Kodah weren’t the only ones that have stolen my heart. Buck, Drifter and even JB were loveable individuals and I hope that we get to see at least one or two of them again in the future.
This book was a lot different to the first. Emma and Kodah were finally free from that horrible place but their past still haunted them. Both struggled with Emma’s memory loss and her panic attacks due to flashbacks. I can’t say which had it worse, Emma for not remembering or Kodah for not knowing when or if his love of his life will remember him again and having to live without her until then.
But there was a lot more going on in Set Us Free. It wasn’t just about Emma and Kodah anymore. It was about revenge, acceptance and most of all about family.
It was also told from multiple POVs which added more width to it since Emma mostly dealt with her memory loss and getting her life in order while lots more stuff happened around her.
The Story:
Emma and Kodah are finally free but life isn’t what they had planned and hoped it would be. Emma doesn’t remember most of what happened and struggles with panic attacks due to flashbacks and triggered memories of her past. But the one thing she knows for sure is that the man in the shadows, a stranger, gives her a feeling of familiarity and safety.
Kodah tried to stay away and give her time to remember, but it hurts more and more to not being able to touch her and hold her in his arms. But he’s certain that one day he will make good on his promise because Emma has always been his and the world should know that.
When a thread turns their lives upside down, it’s just a matter of time to find out if it will destroy them once and for all or finally bring them the yet missing piece of their happily ever after.
Thoughts:
As much as I loved this book, I think it could have been even better or darker at some parts as we didn’t get to experience everything first hand (i.e. stuff with Buck). If I had to choose, I’d say that I liked Set Me Free a little bit better, which doesn’t mean that this one was not as good, it’s just a question of different opinion/taste. I loved the special bond between Emma and Kodah in the first book which wasn’t as present in SUF because of her memory loss. But both books were just too different to compare as they played in two very different chapters of the character’s lives (during captivity and after).
The book started out rather slow. Emma couldn’t remember anything that happened and her recovery was a slow progress which was understandable. Every time when she remembered something, it was like a punch to the gut, pain radiating through her body, overwhelming her. It definitely was an emotional read. Especially seeing Kodah so helpless, when all he wanted was to be with her but couldn’t.
I absolutely loved Buck and Drifter! Both so different yet so similar with their troubled minds.
There was one thing that I did NOT like, which I can’t tell you about because of spoilers. Not that the story was bad because of it, I just wished a different outcome of a particular scene closer to the end.
Last but not least, I am looking forward to JB and Bailey’s story. The sneak peek got me all excited and I hope we don’t have to wait too long for their book. I loved JB already in SMF and SUF and hope he will find his peace with his past.
And like I mentioned before, I’d be happy to see some characters again.
the second book was just as thrilling but of a different nature. the continuation and the characters just always leaves me in awe. magnitudes of personality in every character, you see each and every one of them grow and mature, great twists and turns with a very fitting ending that’s so bittersweet and I absolutely love the realism in all of it. such dark pasts, trials, and tribulations that were conquered and/or accepted with so many of the other characters in this series.
MR Leahy blew me away with this. the sneak peak of the secondary characters (their close friends, Bailey and JB) having their own story seems just as intense and as compelling with Emmalyn and Kodah. normally, the thrill dies down as the series continue but I just cannot see it happening with the way things are unraveling
Set Us Free by M.R. Leahy begins where book one ends. Emmy is still struggling to remember her past and trying to live in the now. Kodah has found a new family in the mc brotherhood with JB . . . however, he can’t move forward until the love of his life remembers who he is. Kept apart for years after their escape from slavery, they are both alive, but really not living.
Even though she is unable to remember, others remember Emmy, and her life is at risk from those wanting to draw her back into slavery. It will take all her saviors’ resources as well as banding together with unexpected allies to keep her safe from harm. If and when Emmy remembers and can confront her past, will she be able to have the life of love and freedom Kodah promised her?
Set Us Free is a powerful and moving conclusion to Emmy and Kodah’s story. Both have lived through things most of us cannot even imagine. Yet, Emmy somehow retains her light that draws others to her. And Kodah remains unwaveringly faithful through the years just waiting for the moment he can once again claim his place in Emmy’s life.
M.R. Leahy does an amazing job with her characters and their stories. I love that she explores difficult and taboo topics such as sexual slavery and its aftermath on the survivors and has characters that just because they did bad things, does not make them evil. This book is thought provoking, intense and emotional to read. It’s an amazing sequel to Set Me Free, and in the end, provides a bit of lightness that is Kodah and Emmy.
This book is not for everyone. If sexual assault or slavery is a trigger for you, please stay away. That being said, it is an amazing read. Kudos to M. R. Leahy for tackling these topics in an exceptional way. 5 stars.

Set Us Free is the continuation of Emmy and Kodah’s story from Set Me Free.
It was such an intense emotional read that there were times I just had to set it aside and breathe through my emotions.
My husband would look at me and ask, “Are you okay?”
Ummmmm… “No, I’m not. Im not okay!” I swear he thinks there’s something wrong with me. Oh well, anyways…
It’s been years since they were freed from their lives of Hell, but Emmy and Kodah still haven’t found their heaven. Kodah hides in the shadows waiting for his love to return to him, however he’s done waiting. He’s claiming Emmy whether she’s ready or not.
And when their pasts resurfaces threatening to end their newly found peace, he’ll stop at nothing to keep her from harm. But is it too little too late? Will they have a future together, or are they destined to live in the dark forever?
If you enjoy a dark, sexy, emotional you NEED to read this series. M.R. Leahy is a phenomenal story teller, and I hope to be reading her work for a long time to come.
