A discharged Army Ranger, Ben considers his job as a BDSM club security guard to be an excellent hobby. He’s never been tempted to join in. But everything changes when the notorious Mistress Anne inadvertently reveals the caring heart concealed beneath her Domme armor.
Now, he’s set his sights on the beautiful Shadowlands Mistress. Maybe he’d considered himself vanilla, but she can put her … put her stiletto on his chest any day, any time. He’ll trust her delicate hands to hold his heart. And if she wants to whip his ass on the way to an outstanding climax, he’s just fine with that too.
Sure, he knows she likes “pretty boy” slaves. And he’s older. Craggy and rough. And six-five. Minor hindrances. The mission is a go.

Love this series and characters.
When I started reading the series, and Mistress Anne was introduced, I began dismissing the thought of reading a story about Domme. I have nothing against the role or the lifestyle, but to me, I am biased to alpha male and sexual dominants being mostly males. I guess the cerebral submissive in me wasn’t entirely open to the idea. However, I enjoy this series, hence the need and compulsion to continue the series called to me. So I read it. Most importantly, I enjoyed it.
Servicing the Target was a little of what I expected, which is a strong, confident woman. A sexy domme. What was unexpected was the hero in the story, the story that makes it them and the story of them together. I loved the chemistry between Anne and Ben. Their pairing was sexy, spicy and igniting.
If you have followed this series, you’re going to love the follow ups of the previous characters. This is another point I loved this book, it demonstrated that family is not just of blood relations, but family is where you decide to call home. This is a must read
If Cherise could write a sadist that I liked I had no doubt I would love her female domme story. As this series has progressed the stories have gotten more in depth with the characters lives outside of Shadowlands and also showing us why they are what they are, be it a sub, Dom, sadist, or a slave.
So how does a story work with a female dom and a vanilla man? Very well if Cherise is writing the story. Anne has been a character we’ve known as Mistress Anne through many of the Shadowland books. She was a no-nonsense ball breaker Domme. In the last few books we’d begun to see a more human side to her. Ben has also been a presence in all of the Shadowlands books as the large and menacing security guard at the front door to Shadowlands.
As well as a Domme, Anne kicked ass outside of the club as a bounty hunter. She also was involved in getting abused women and children away from their husbands and into a women’s shelter. She’d recently let go of her long time slave and not really sure if she wants to be in that type of relationship anymore.
Ben has liked Anne from a far but because he had no desire to be a slave he didnt really think they could have a future together. Ben suffers from both guilt and little PTSD from his time in the military. One night at the club Ben takes Anne home due to some injuries she sustained on her job and Ben decides it time to make his move and let her know he’s interested.
Ben was a great man who also had a huge protective streak and a fabulous dog but this book was really about Anne being at a crossroad in her life and having to face why she really became a sadist and a Domme. I’m not going to go into detail but seeing Anne having to face her childhood that defined her and to showing a emotional side was great story telling.
Along with Ben and Anne trying to navigate their relationship we get some time with quite of few of the previous characters. Z and Jessica’s baby gets birthed during this book and it was quite humorous to see the little subbie give Z hell during the birth.
Never disappointed in a Shadowlands book and hope we get many more to come.
