“Thank you for your service” is what we’re taught to say to military men and women in gratitude for our freedoms won at their expense. Less often do we thank their families, those left behind to hold down the fort, to manage the day-to-day struggle of keeping everything up in the air until their loved one returns. When you can’t count on anyone else to save you, there’s only one real choice.Amanda … choice.
Amanda lost her husband to war. Alex lost part of himself. Through a series of glancing encounters, Amanda and Alex find reasons to continue on. And together, they’ll discover hope and peace can be found in the most unexpected of places.

“—her breathtaking beauty paled in comparison to the strength she carried inside, and every interaction between them only made him want her more.”
This first installment in the Borderline Freaks MC pulled my heartstrings…hard. It is exactly what the title says and being told in dual POV it put me right into the heads and hearts of the characters. That was a beautiful and painful experience that I wouldn’t have missed for the world.
A chance meeting between Alex and Amanda was the beginning of their healing. The first instance of seeing something and someone outside of the pain and memories they’d been buried under for so long. They recognized the loss in each other and felt a connection. Not one they were ready to explore right then, but a flicker of possibility, a glimmer of hope that there was more than sadness to look forward to.
My favorite thing about this author’s writing is her ability to reach me through the pages in a way that I can see and hear the characters so clearly. Their emotions and voice inflections, their whispers and cries…everything. Every one of her stories gives me the feels, but this one made my chest ache practically from beginning to end…sigh. I loved it and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the members of the club. I have a feeling I’m gonna need to buy another box of tissues first, though. The line forms here…
Heartwarming second chance romance! I have to say that I really appreciate that after 5 years Amanda was still grieving the loss of her husband. Alex was amazing at giving Amanda the support she needed and the space to go through the stages of grief. Over the years that initial connection stayed with them both. Neither one expecting or looking for love but it found it’s way into their loved. I loved their story and look forward to more!
Alex and Amanda
Amanda is a war widow, who encounters a MC club one day and meets Alex. They are both broken, and over time out turns into a friendship and they bring each other back to life. This it’s a really good read. If I had any complaint about a book written by MLD it would have to be the books not looking enough, always want more.
This was such as an amazing read as it was heartfelt and emotional and makes you realize we should live our life to the fullness each and everyday.
I have to say I felt the pain that Amanda was living with the author made it feel real and you were right along side her experiencing the loss and heartache she was.
Amanda was a character easy to love and it was apparent from the onset of the story deeply in love with her husband and her heartbreak and loss overwhelming at times.
A chance meeting between Alex and Amanda puts both of them on the path of healing and letting go of ones past and moving forward. The courtship of you could call it between this couple was quite endearing and heartfelt and a little bit scary for both of them.
Alex was a character that you could not help but fall in love immediately and him beginning an ex military soldier himself understood her feelings and what she was experiencing with the loss of her husband but, also admired her for her the strength and determination that it takes to love a military man.
A beautiful story and and even more beautiful ending of a story that definitely tugged at the heartstrings of this reader.
Omg, have your tissues ready for this book. I absolutely loved it. And MariaLisa DeMora did amazing job with it. This is a book about two people broken from war in different ways, but brought together by chance meeting.
I loved Alex and Amanda, they help each other out when they need it most. And just clicked.
I can’t wait to see what comes next. Highly recommend this book.
I grew up in a military family and have heard stories throughout the years that have always captured my attention 100%, so any time I read stories with military families, even one brought together by a brotherhood, gets my vote 100%.
Great writing (MDM, always) gets my vote 10000%.
This is book 1 in the Borderline Freaks MC.
The Boarderline Freaks MC is a brotherhood that consists of former servicemen. Men who have all seen the best and the worst of times while protecting their county.
Amanda is a widow who lost her husband while serving. She is stuck in time, not able to figure out a way to move past her grief and towards the rest of her life. When she meets Alex, “Monk”, they both sense a hurt and pain that no one else could understand and begin a friendship that starts the healing process for them both.
This is a slow burn romance, showing there are things that are worth waiting for.
Another excellent read from MariaLisa Demora.
This was a heart crushing, heart warming storyline. It was touching from beginning to end. Amanda loses her one and only to the war. Alex lost part of himself to the war. These two come together and end up putting each other back together in the sweetest way. I absolutely love how Alex is with Amanda when it comes to her going to see Alex. This book was just absolutely amazing. Just the right length to provide you with a great storyline. I absolutely loved Amanda and felt every emotion that she was feeling. MariaLisa did an amazing job with this one. I cant wait to read more from this series
Oh wow… This book just made me sad. I can’t even imagine what Amanda went through. This book will literally have your heart breaking, but it will put it back together again, slowly…
After 5years Amanda is still grieving the loss of her husband and she feels like she will never stop. The first time that Monk and Amanda meet is at a gas station surrounded by motorcycles. She isn’t afraid just nervous and when she has an encounter with him, man it was hectic for me. The words they exchanged, for people in the service i’m sure it will touch your heart strings. From then this journey they went on was about healing, and not just for Amanda but for him as well.
I think if you dont know what it means to loose someone who was in the service, this book will give you a glimpse into this world. And I for one, dont know how people move on, but all I can say is my heart goes out to you This author really touches you with her words in this story and you get so caught up in the story that you actually dont even realise its a MC Story I look foward to the next story in this series
This is a beautiful story about Amanda and Alex who have both lived lives shaped by war. Amanda lost her high school boyfriend and husband to it. Alex fought and had his life forever change both by what he saw and what he missed at home while away serving his country. It wasn’t an easy road, but Alex never gave up hope that Amanda would find her way through her grief.
4.5 stars
I was pulled right into this short story. This story contains secrets, love, heartbreak, and pain.
This is Amanda and Alex‘s story. These two had a lot to deal with and overcome before they would be together. They have both struggled with loss in their own way. Now they need to figure out how to move forward. Can they heal and love again? Or will it all just be too hard?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book.
Monk and Amanda are some wonderful characters that will stay with you long after you read that last word. The title gives you an inkling into what you are going to experience with these characters but they give you so much more than that. I couldn’t read it fast enough and yet I didn’t want it to end.
This was an emotional read. But, I loved everything about this book. Chemistry and the story pulled me in from the beginning. I could not get enough of this book.
Hooked from chapter one and could not place my reader down. I am be such a huge fan of MariaLisa DeMora and her writings. She brings her characters to life and I feel like I am there to bare witness to the events.
This new series is no exceptions. I fell in love with Alex and Amanda. They both suffered a great loss and found hope and love again with each other. This tale is so good. I can’t find the best words to describe how it makes me feel.
However, I will say their story has all of the feels, so make sure to grab some tissues.
I highly recommend this new series and will always recommend this talented Author to my friends. I cannot wait to read book 2!
This book had me in tears from almost the beginning. Amanda’s pain and heartbreak of losing her husband in the line of duty is felt so deep and all of these years later she still can’t move forward (which is understandable BTW). Then she meets a grumpy and rough looking biker at a gas station and her whole life changes. Former Marine Alex (Monk) Waterman just wants the lady at the gas pump to move when she seems frozen from all of the bikers at the gas station. When they both really “see” what the other is about they form an unlikely friendship. Who knew innocent touching and unbelievable good hugs could start heal the broken parts of their souls? I can’t wait to see where this relationship goes from here!!
This story started off pushing my emotions. When Amanda grieved, I grieved. When Alex/Monk comforted her, I felt his warmth. As their connection grew, I felt glad to be a part of it. As grief turned to acceptance, I smiled. As the heat between these two, I was happy for both of them. The ending of this story was a happy one, and I still had tears. I recommend this story.
I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
“Ma’am. My duty and honor.”
That was it. That’s all it took to stand the hair up on my arms, make my breathe catch in my throat and make me KNOW that Monk / Alex Waterman, would one day become the most important person in Amanda Stewart’s life.
“Thank you for your service, Marine.”
That may have come before and was just as important, but the fact of the matter is that for Monk….’My duty and honor’, came home with him and lived inside of him even after he was no longer in the service. It is part of the life he has built with his club and the way he lives with his brothers and it is most definitely a part of the way he decides to move forward with doing for Amanda…even when she doesn’t know.
Monk and Amanda are both so painfully damaged, each in their own way. They are both so terribly alone…again, each in their own way.
THIS love is the most hard won, deserved ending I could’ve asked for.
I loved every word put down in these pages!
MariaLisa deMora….I’m kinda running out of new praises to sing to the sky….50 stars wouldn’t be enough.
Never ever enough!
Absolutely Remarkable Read!
This is the 1st book in a new series, and what a brilliant introduction this is!! Amanda is a war widow, and when fate brings Alex into her life, they start to heal each other. This is a beautifully written story which is an emotional roller coaster journey throughout, as well as being a raw, gritty, heart-wrenching, riveting, and powerful slow burn romance, which had me totally captivated throughout, and I cannot wait to read the 2nd book in this awesome series. I highly recommend for all.
A slow burn romance with a happy ending. There is something about a story that grabs me when the characters see each other and just knows…sigh…that their life is going to be changed. They may not know how but they know. We are brought into that with Monk and Amanda. Amanda is not in a good place and has not been for awhile but maybe…I like the fact she does not see Monk as her savior, but as someone she admires. She pulls herself up by herself. Sometimes we need a hero but sometimes we need just a push in the right direction.
I really enjoyed this fast moving, very touching and honestly quite swoony MC-ish, military flavored romance.
Amanda and Alex have some pretty incredible chemistry from their first meeting, and the tension only intensifies over the years of their long-distance, very quiet, mostly disconnected friendship. It feels like their pairing is inevitable, and the story is just very well told all the way around. Amanda has some huge grief she’s working through and Alex has been there, as well as on the other side. They are a perfect match.
I was very sad when it was over, but look forward to the rest of the series!
Amanda is the struggling veteran widow trying to hold everything together while she grieves. However, not all memories are perfect. Alex aka Monk is back from the war trying to survive his own memories while finding himself leaning on the support of the Borderline Freaks MC. Amanda and Monk met each other and recognize some of what the other is feeling and has lived through but as their meetings increase so does the slow dance to love. Each have baggage to bear but once they realize the other helps to ease the burden in ways they never thought possible a beautiful love story blooms. Despite the fact their courtship takes time, effort and understanding these two characters show strength, commitment and bravery. What a great read to kick off the series.
