Vampire hunter Anita Blake has always managed to overcome everything she faces. But this time there’s a monster that even she doesn’t know how to fight…A remote Florida island is the perfect wedding destination for the upcoming nuptials of Anita’s fellow U.S. Marshal and best friend, Edward. For Anita, the vacation is a welcome break, as it’s the first trip she gets to take with just … with just wereleopards Micah and Nathaniel. But it’s not all fun and games and bachelor parties…
In this tropical paradise, Micah discovers a horrific new form of lycanthropy, one that has afflicted a single family for generations. Believed to be the result of an ancient Greek curse, it turns human bodies into a mass of snakes.
When long-simmering resentment leads to a big blow-up within the wedding party, the last thing Anita needs is more drama. But it finds her anyway when women start disappearing from the hotel, and worse, her own friends and lovers are considered the prime suspects. There’s a strange power afoot that Anita has never confronted before, a force that’s rendering those around her helpless. Another awesome book in the Anita Blake Vampire/Federal Marshall world. Each book in this series just gets better. I couldn’t put it down. This is another thrilling fast paced mystery story written within the Anita Blake universe.
Serpentine is the latest Anita Blake novel written by Laurell K Hamilton. The story was fast paced from the first chapter to the last. I was so immersed in the book that I finished it in one sitting. The alternate reality world-building that has been done in this book is so realistic that the reader can be forgiven their belief that the paranormal creatures in it are actually a part of our society. The police procedures followed by the characters are so precise and vivid that they I actually became fooled into thinking the crime was real. This book is a true blending of a detective mystery plot twisted within a believable alternate reality that is just subtle different from our own. Even though this book is the latest in the Anita Blake series, it stands on it own merits with a spectacular ending that wraps up the story so that there is no cliffhanger.
This book is a definitive masterpiece of writing that anyone who enjoys a well written book will enjoy. One caution about the Anita Blake series books is that like the old adages’ about potato chips or cats; You can’t just eat or have one! Once you read any of the books in Hamilton’s Anita Blake series, you crave to read another. I know I am eagerly awaiting the next one!
I love this Author and her stories are the best. She really took it in a different direction with this one.
I’m a fan of the series. Love the characters. Enjoy their interaction and the stories are always interesting.
Not her best but still entertaining world she has created.
Better than the last few books in this series.
I loved this book. I’ve read the whole Anita Blake series.
I’m on the fence with this story. This is the first book since Narcissus in Chains, that the entire book didn’t revolve around the ardur or just the poly sex group in general. However, the first half of the book has a lot of character dialogue that wasn’t needed and didn’t add to the overall story and in all honesty didn’t remotely get interesting until the trip to Florida. I want monster hunting action, which unfortunately didn’t come into play until the last 1/8 of the book. Not sure that I’m going to read any more books in this series. So glad that I picked this book up at the library and not pay the ridiculous book fees for this drivel.
Thinking it is time to give up trying to read these books. There is very little story anymore and just a lot of rehashing what we have already heard. Then the ending is a quick, let’s get it done. Very disappointed.
The story is preoccupied with group sex situations. All scenes of the story take place between sexual situations or characters complaining about the lack of sex with their “group”.
Not as enjoyable as most of the books in series. Missing that page turner romance/mystery aspect with characters. I got the impression that it was written during a huge personal family fight of the author.
if you like series and paranormal this is good. It is erotic.
I’m a Long time reader of the Anita Blake series and while some scenes are super descriptive without much action the book picks up action as it goes.
Love this series and this book didn’t let me down!!
I love Anita’s adventures! Petite women can be very powerful!
I cannot, in honesty, recommend this book. I found it a disappointment.
Ms. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series has been one of my favorite reads for a long time. It has always been a pleasure to read them. But I thought this book was very different from most of the series.
Her books are usually full of violence and action with many tense situations. This is the type of reading I enjoy. This novel, however, is about relationships and sex. I have no objections to either but it is not what I want to read. This is admittedly a matter of preference and many of her fans may in enjoy it. I hope her next Anita Blake is very different.
As the series evolves so do the characters. The action is bloody and violent and reveals what it takes to survive and protect innocent lives.
Still feels like the author is writing as though she IS Anita Blake, which feels weird sometimes…
Interesting. The ending feels rushed.
O loved it i.read all of her books
She just gets better can,t wait for the next,
She just gets better; I can’t wait for the next!!
